  • According to Christie’s, the ‘Maharajas & Mughal Magnificence’ auction “presents an unprecedented group of jewels, gemstones, and decorative objects. Consisting of almost four hundred lots spanning over five hundred years [...] showcasing the illustrious culture of Indian jeweled arts from the Mughal period and the age of the Maharajas, exploring the creative dialogue between India and the West, through to the present day.” The sale represents a narrow selection of pieces from the Al Thani collection which contains over 6,000 works of art.
    And here are they.......

Most of the families of Indian Maharajas started to run out of cash...
So most likely they sold it.

I’m not Indian but I can’t accept this. that national treasures ended up in auction house that most likely owned by other private foreigners but Indians. I hate colonialism.

Well most of jewels were sold by the families of Maharajas.
Since many of them were running out of money after somewhat 1960-70s

    • @anthonywatts2033

So "wicked colonialism" but the maharajas and Indian leader working and taxing the crap out of their citizens is just dandy! Yep two wrongs do not make a right. But standing on a soap box, clutching your pearls and spouting idiocy doesn't help either.
