RE your fast travel complaint: Options -> More Options -> Assist Options. Here you can enable travel to 3 homepoints instead of one. This should be on by default, imo.
You get a small amount of LP for classes that other party members are currently on as well when a battle ends. It's why you level quickest when everyone is the same class.
The presentation is so beautiful! Love that there are no loading screens, to stay immersed. As for lack of story, I'm fine with that, I love exploration, but the platforming might keep me away 👀
I am definitely getting Final Fantasy I vibes with this game. The starting classes were very much the Knight, Monk, Thief, Red Mage, White Mage, and Black Mage. You are dropped into a story, but it feels more like a free-form adventure after the Spawning Meadows - much like how you are pretty much left to discover the next path after dealing with Garland.
I downloaded the demo off of Steam after watching this review. Four hours in, and this is a must-buy. I just need to finish the demo first, and there's no telling how long that will last. It's kind of amazing that the developer was willing to give away so much of this passion project for free.
I'VE been talking about CryProj! But mostly to individuals. A co-worker and my brother have both started playing as a result. I've done some minor stanning on Reddit & some Discords too :p
Just bought it today and I have more than 9 hours already. This game is the perfect mix of ff, bravely default and DARK SOULS exploration! They throw you at the world and you get to experiment the systems and lots of platforming with good rewards.
Thank you for the great review. I'm playing through the demo and I'm really enjoying it. I subscribed to your channel because your video was really thoughtful and told me just about everything I wanted to know. Hoping I get to see you review more hidden gems.
I'd heard of this game and figured I'd play it eventually. Finally got around to it earlier this year and it really blew me away. The battle complexity, character building and exploration are all top tier.
Pier Solar and the Great Architects, it has the typical PC and console releases but it also released for Genesis! It's a bit on the older side but I can't remember seeing people talking about it
it;s all about Crosscode - they must not have had a publisher because for that quality of game it got NO press when it was released in 1.0 September 2018. Not one major gaming outlet reviewed it. And it should have been nominated for game of the year. I def look forward to playing Crystal Project
I really love this game the art style, the music, the platforming, the battle system. I am playing it on my gaming desktop and steam deck interchangeably it's so fun. The price for this game is truly a steal. I hope this indie developer creates more game he clearly has talent.
I recognize the character sprites as Time Fantasy assets, which is interesting to me since those are typically used for RPG Maker (Not that that's an issue, of course (Also, despite 3D being possible in RM, I don't believe this is RM at all, just to clarify)). Not sure about anything else, but I immediately recognized the character sprites. Lol. This looks like a cool game, I'd be interested in eventually playing it if it ever gets put on Switch. :)
The only thing I don't like about this game is my inability to play it while lounging. I can't afford a steamdeck, but I do have a switch and it would be just perfect.
Certainly inspired in Final Fantasy 5, which, in my opinion, is incredibly fun to play, despite being so outdated, because of the class system, that you also get by finding crystals. Maybe he should have changed the crystal part, it's a little too obvious. About the "item" thing, it's probably an inspiration from Final Fantasy Tactics, where there was a class called "chemist", which is the only class that can use itens.
I agree that is reminds of from software in terms of world building... I actually didnt realize that the game has a world map viewing feature until at the very end of the game lol... so I had to become very intimately familiar with the locations. (and seeing how intiricate they can be at times it created some headaches at times...)
the lverworld movement with the character and the way the map scrolls is very reminiscent of Crystalis from the NES. . .which i just realized "CRYSTAL"is(?) so, it's not just paying tribute to final fantasy, which ks obviously where they took the job class system from
Everything from this game screams Final Fantasy IV, which is pretty cool. Since it's the lineage of FF systems that brought about FFVI, FFIX, and FFXIV. This sorta looks back at that rich mechanical history, and wants to build something new on that old skeleton.
Must be hard to experience games if you're constantly measuring it against other games. Might be worth just focusing on the game in front of you and how it comes together as its own package. "Other games do it this way, so I don't know why they did it this other way." To each their own, just seems like a weird basis for a complaint. Otherwise great video!
Threw in the towel at 5 hours. It was super fun but I never felt a sense of progression and I hate platforming but it was a great game. Just not for me.
he puts "gaming laptop" in quotes. . as if this game is somehow the limit of what one of those can handle. my gaming laptop can play skyrim and fallout 4 at max settings. as well as more recent games like outer worlds, greedfall, cyberpunk, witcher 3, no man's sky. i mean, i'm probably not gonna attempt elden ring on it, but yeah, like 90% of the games on steam would run fine on my laptop and mine isn't even the best one on the market. my device has 16 gigs of ram and I could have doubled the ram on it if i wanted to spend more money. . which i actually kinda wish i had done since newer games are already coming out that want 12 or 16 gigs of ram and i like to leave some breathing room
so like, this game only needs 2 gig of ram. i feel safe knowing anything that needs 8 or less will run on my machine. elden ring needs 12 and i'm not willing to roll the dice on that one. .
Another review for a game where the reviewer hasn't even completed it. Really tired of these channels that don't even dedicate their time to a full playthrough before giving a fleshed out review. Several things you mention in this "review" are not even consistent with the full game.
You know this review was made 2 years ago with the game in development and that the things you mention Maybe werent on that build? Also wtf, this video is a letter of love to the game with the hope of more people finds and fall for it like this creator (and a lot of us) did, so stfu and to back to your cave
Absolutely not lol. This is tiny tiny tiny game from one dude. I'm sure his marketing budget is $0. To me this was all impressive since it came from 1 person.
UPDATE: Crystal Project just launched in Nintendo Switch!
Just saw the demo which made me come here lol
RE your fast travel complaint: Options -> More Options -> Assist Options. Here you can enable travel to 3 homepoints instead of one. This should be on by default, imo.
Oh wow thanks for the tip! Didn’t know that. And yes I agree.
It's like Final Fantasy 5 with parkour and metroidvania mechanics. It's wonderful
Recently finished my first playthrough. Racked up about 120 hours and gotta say this has been one of my favorite gaming experiences in a long time.
Yeah the platforming can be tricky for sure!
You don't need to do anything too complicated, but pulling off some tricky jumps can net you spicy rewards.
I really love the art of the game it's like minecraft and octopath traveler have a child, it feels very cozy to see, I'm definitely going to try it
I am definitely getting Final Fantasy I vibes with this game. The starting classes were very much the Knight, Monk, Thief, Red Mage, White Mage, and Black Mage. It’s actually inspired quite heavily by FFXI online, which also uses the same 6 starting classes as a reference to the original FF.

This game really gives octopath vibes I'm sure I will check this out
octopath was garbage, hope this game is nothing like it
I'VE been talking about CryProj! But mostly to individuals. A co-worker and my brother have both started playing as a result. I've done some minor stanning on Reddit & some Discords too :p
I love how you're rewarded for exploring ,
everytime you try a tricky jump and you land it there's treasure there or a rare enemy or
some new location
Just bought it today and I have more than 9 hours already.

Wow nice! Sounds like you’re digging in then? 🙂
Thank you for the great review. I'm playing through the demo and I'm really enjoying it. I subscribed to your channel because your video was really thoughtful and told me just about everything I wanted to know. Hoping I get to see you review more hidden gems.
FYI there is an option you can enable in the menus that will give you the option to set 3 home points
I'd heard of this game and figured I'd play it eventually. Finally got around to it earlier this year and it really blew me away. The battle complexity, character building and exploration are all top tier.
Bought it, love it. Thanks for the honest review.
Awesome! Glad you’re enjoying it.
This gives me 3D dot game heroes in a way lol. Interested to see where this goes
What are some indie JRPGs you think more people NEED to know about? 🤔
Have you tried Bug Fables? It may not be a JRPG but it's still a pretty solid little indie title.
I haven’t but heard great things!
Pier Solar and the Great Architects, it has the typical PC and console releases but it also released for Genesis! It's a bit on the older side but I can't remember seeing people talking about it
War of the vision its a strange game that if you played brave exvius makes alot more sense
it;s all about Crosscode - they must not have had a publisher because for that quality of game it got NO press when it was released in 1.0 September 2018. Not one major gaming outlet reviewed it. And it should have been nominated for game of the year.

0:22 - That's a good edit, lol!
Haha thank you! I had fun with that one 😆
The game is amazing, highly recommended for any jrpg fan
And now it's coming to the Switch. Huge win
Crystal Project is r4eally well done. I'm about 11 hours in and am currently at the difficulty spike described, where you first enter the Capital.
I really love this game the art style, the music, the platforming, the battle system. I am playing it on my gaming desktop and steam deck interchangeably it's so fun. The price for this game is truly a steal. I hope this indie developer creates more game he clearly has talent.
Agreed on all fronts! The price is nuts for how many hours you can get out of it.
I recognize the character sprites as Time Fantasy assets, which is interesting to me since those are typically used for RPG Maker (Not that that's an issue, of course (Also, despite 3D being possible in RM, I don't believe this is RM at all, just to clarify)). It's 2024 and I'm playing this on the switch. It's so good!
I just got on my switch lol... Caught my eye in shop and had to look it up. Looks super fricken fun
Glad it finally game to Switch! I know a lot of people were asking for that.
Neat, added it to my wishlist on Steam. Ty for the overview. :D
This looks great. I loved the bit where you go "before anyone asks if it's going to Switch" Made me lol big time haha
Haha thanks! I knew people were going to ask so I figured I ight as well head it off at the pass ;)
The only thing I don't like about this game is my inability to play it while lounging. I can't afford a steamdeck, but I do have a switch and it would be just perfect.
you had me at the ff5/fftactics/bravely default/octopath traveller job class mix and match.
Certainly inspired in Final Fantasy 5, which, in my opinion, is incredibly fun to play, despite being so outdated, because of the class system, that you also get by finding crystals. This looks great. The Octopath and Minecraft had a baby reference was perfect!
Remembered me Octopath Traveler, I'll give it a try !
I don’t have a PC so I can’t wait for it to come to iPad or Switch!
backed, the most fun I've had with this type of rpg in a long time
Everything from this game screams Final Fantasy IV, which is pretty cool. Since it's the lineage of FF systems that brought about FFVI, FFIX, and FFXIV. This sorta looks back at that rich mechanical history, and wants to build something new on that old skeleton.
Looks dope! Just bought it
Nice! Let me know what you think once you give it a go.
Looks awesome but gotta say it ... Wish it was on the Switch
This looks great. Thank you.
Thanks for watching, Kevin 😄
I got this day one when it came out and played hours just on the platforming
Awesome! Glad you’re enjoying it.
I found out why it wasnt, you can thank projared for the stigma.
What?
Must be hard to experience games if you're constantly measuring it against other games.

This review honestly sold the game to me.
Threw in the towel at 5 hours. It was super fun but I never felt a sense of progression and I hate platforming but it was a great game. Just not for me.
If this comes to Switch I will buy 💯%
Buying this soon
I brought it. It was fun!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I want to play but I don't have a PC. And I can't get it to work on my emulator.
It actually JUST came to Switch!
@@TheGamingShelf I saw. I downloaded the demo.
Seems Interesting. 👍
It’s so damn good
Anyone know what engine this game was made in?
Is this built in unreal 4?
This game is awesome, play it
❤️❤️❤️
No you ❤️
It is for mobile?
Just PC but I think they are working on a Switch version.
Switch port coming 👍
Great news!
“The main focus is exploration”
No, it’s crystals. *banished*
he puts "gaming laptop" in quotes. . as if this game is somehow the limit of what one of those can handle.
my gaming laptop can play skyrim and fallout 4 at max settings. as well as more recent games like outer worlds, greedfall, cyberpunk, witcher 3, no man's sky.

Ehh it’s ok, played for a few hours but it’s way to bland for me, way too many games are available right now
Huge red flag about maps. Its either there or there is no map altogether.
Yeah the maps in this game are a bummer for sure.
Screw the switch, give us the PS4 and PS5 version.

Nope.
You talk like it is your first time seeing those mechanics or things in the game. Makes me wonder if this is paid promotion.
Absolutely not lol. This is tiny tiny tiny game from one dude. I'm sure his marketing budget is $0. To me this was all impressive since it came from 1 person.
This game is fantastic. I put roughly 100 hours into it and loved every minute
This needs to be on Switch!!!!!!
It is!
