Quentin Tarantino has said that he wrote the script with John Carpenters the thing in mind…. He loves the idea of people stuck together in a winter type setting, and not knowing who to trust throughout the whole film because anybody could not be the person that they say they are.
The scene where Sam points his gun at everyone left while they face the wall reminds of the similar scene of Kurt Russell examining everyone's blood in the thing. Great touch!

Does that mean anyone with a southern accent would thrive and/or have notches don their belt in the "Old West?" He also did the score for Django, after which he expressed frustration for the way Tarantino uses music in a film. At the time he said he would never work with Tarantino again. Apparently they worked things out
The prop guitar that Kurt Russell had smashed was a real guitar from the 19th century! Jennifer Jason Leigh's reaction was real and it made it into the final cut of the film. The damage to the guitar was $500,000.00.
There have been a few reactions to Hateful Eight, my favorite being TBR Schmitt. More channels definitely need to react to it though! A lot of channels are going through Tarantino's catalog currently so hopefully we'll see more reactions soon!

I saw this in theater before release. The intermission happens right before the coffee scene. The guy and his son behind my mom said “god this movie is boring” and I out loud said to my mom “they don’t know how film works.” And instantly they were shocked by all of the gore in the next scenes. Maybe one of the best theatrical experiences I’ve ever had.
I got to see the 70MM roadshow presentation when it came out and I really enjoyed the buildup to the second half. Iirc the intermission took place following the shooting of the general, and it was by that point that I realized we were in for a treat coming up. The audience I had was a fun one, I don't think anyone was bored though I imagine many were wondering how long it would take until the Tarantino-signature gore would come into the picture.
Interesting fact , the female stagecoach driver was the Stunt double for Uma Thurman in killbill 1&2. Kiwi Zoe Bell. She's had a acting part in every Tarrentino movie since killbill. She was one of the main protagonists in Tarrentino's Deathproof. Kurt Russell was the Villan in that movie.

Honestly, seeing the back track where it shows the prequel to the Bounty hunters arriving puts a LOT into perspective. "Bob" the least Mexican name ever, the sweets on the floor, the door, the reason there's no line to the outhouse [bloodied], the chair being covered, the no dogs/mexicans sign being taken down. It's crazy. But what a suspense filled hour+ of them being in the cabin omg.
At about 3:15 into the movie they show Channing Tatum's name in the credits, but since a lot of people either don't like to read or don't pay attention most moviegoers are surprised when they see him later in the film.

I remember an interesting fact from this movie. At 41:54, when John Root smashes the guitar, Daisy's reaction is real because it was an original 1870 Martin guitar, provided by the Martin Guitar Museum specifically for the filming. According to the script, John Root was supposed to smash a copy of the guitar, but due to a misunderstanding, the actor smashed a real instrument, which he did not know about during the filming of the scene. As a result, the unique guitar was destroyed, which caused great disappointment among museum staff. After this incident, the museum stopped providing its instruments for filming.

QT initially wrote this as a sequel to Django. It developed to the Hateful8 when they arrived at Minnie's Haberdashery. At that point, QT decided he wanted all of the players to be bad, so he changed the story and crafted it into this masterpiece. I❤QT
Ennio Morricone received his first regular Oscar for his music to Tarantino's “Hateful Eight”. He already had an Oscar for his life's work. An unusual sequence. Morricone was nominated six times in total with a soundtrack.
Fun fact- the guitar was supposed to be a replica when it came time to destroy it, but it was never swapped out, so Russell actually destroyed a very rare and expensive guitar.

This entire movie felt like a play, and seeing how it took place in literally only two place: the carriage and the haberdashery, you could realistically make a play out of it just because of how simple it is. The movie can be recreated into a play and still felt the same since there's no CGI.
It's fun when you watch this movie again because then you gather all the subtle clues once they enter the Minnies place. Like how Daisy purposefully mentions who else is with them because she knows the gang is there to save her and other little hints
the hatful eight is a really good movie i never expected the twist in the end but i always had in my mind that something aint right it was one of the first movies in a loooong time that actually made me think

With Halloween coming up, this channel should watch "Bone Tomahawk". A western horror film with Kurt Russell looking exactly the same. It is intense and terrifying.

A masterpiece. This is easily Tarantino's best movie of the 2000s. It's kind of a love letter to the John Carpenter classic remake of The Thing right down to actually having Kurt Russell and some of the soundtrack in it, but as a Western. Even having Ennio Morricone who scored it as the composer of this soundtrack. The isolation, blizzard, paranoia, mistrust and having a monster in plain site, but not knowing who it is. "Who goes there?" The Thing is one of my favorite movies of all-time and Tarantino LOVES that movie with good reason. Great reaction ladies!
When Kurt Russel smashes the musical instrument it was a genuine antique loaned to the film. They forgot to switch it out for the prop and he didn't know. That was a genuine reaction from Jennifer Jason Leigh.
Every time I watch this movie it goes higher and higher on my list. Last time it finally climbed the ranks and become my second favorite Tarantino movie. Kill Bill will always be way too high for the rest of them to even catch up.

During shots, the Guitar was supposed to be replaced by an imitation that Russell's character could destroy. However, due to a mistake / Issue / Miscommunication, the Real Guitar was not replaced and Russell was not told about it, so he actually destroyed the original 1870's Guitar. So Leigh's reaction in the scene is actually Leigh's actual reaction at the Vintage Guitar being destroyed. Russell did feel bad about it when he learnt it was actually the Antique that was destroyed and the fact that Leigh's has been learning to play the Guitar on such a unique Instrument.

I watched this movie in cinema and I loved it. Tarantino movies are so similar and at the same time so different. This movie has almost everything Tarantino movies tend to have, however, it still feels so fresh and different, it's so incredible. I think I still prefer once upon a time in hollywood, but it depends on the day of the week.

This is my fave Tarantino film. Just imagine the reaction of someone discovering the haberdashery in the end: there’s a woman hanged in the middle of the room cuffed to a chopped arm, multiple dead bodies around the room including a headless Mexican, sea of blood, another headless body in the basement, dead horses in the stable, half a dozen more bodies stuffed in the well. Rotten smell of death and spoiled stew. Insane scene in the middle of nowhere lol.

At this era, the outhose and water source were normally opposite distances from the home to prevent contamination. Farther = Safer.

This entire movie felt like a play, and seeing how it took place in literally only two place: the carriage and the haberdashery, you could realistically make a play out of it just because of how simple it is. The movie can be recreated into a play and still felt the same since there's no CGI.

It's fun when you watch this movie again because then you gather all the subtle clues once they enter the Minnies place. Like how Daisy purposefully mentions who else is with them because she knows the gang is there to save her and other little hints
the hatful eight is a really good movie i never expected the twist in the end but i always had in my mind that something aint right it was one of the first movies in a loooong time that actually made me think

Just wanted to say this. The Hateful Eight is such a great, underrated film from Tarantino and it definitely deserves more love! Tarantino is the king of dialogue!

@41:55 Movie Trivia: When Kurt Russell's character smashed the guitar against the ceiling beam, he destroyed an actual antique guitar on loan to the film production from a museum. A prop guitar was supposed to be switched in before he smashed it but that hadn't been done yet. When Leigh's character tries to stop him from smashing it, she was ACTUALLY trying to prevent the real museum piece from being destroyed.

A masterpiece. This is easily Tarantino's best movie of the 2000s. It's kind of a love letter to the John Carpenter classic remake of The Thing right down to actually having Kurt Russell and some of the soundtrack in it, but as a Western. Even having Ennio Morricone who scored it as the composer of this soundtrack. The isolation, blizzard, paranoia, mistrust and having a monster in plain site, but not knowing who it is. "Who goes there?" The Thing is one of my favorite movies of all-time and Tarantino LOVES that movie with good reason. Great reaction ladies!
When Kurt Russel smashes the musical instrument it was a genuine antique loaned to the film. They forgot to switch it out for the prop and he didn't know. That was a genuine reaction from Jennifer Jason Leigh.

Every time I watch this movie it goes higher and higher on my list. Last time it finally climbed the ranks and become my second favorite Tarantino movie. Kill Bill will always be way too high for the rest of them to even catch up.
What makes Reservoir Dogs and Hateful 8 so good is the dialogue, it's so good you don't need action.

@CinePals - A Funny Trivia about the movie is about the scene in which JJ Leigh's Character is playing a song on the guitar and Kurt Russell's character destroys it out of frustration - The Guitar was a prop, an 1870's Martin Guitar, borrowed from the Martin Guitar Museum, and worth about $40,000. During shots, the Guitar was supposed to be replaced by an imitation that Russell's character could destroy. However, due to a mistake / Issue / Miscommunication, the Real Guitar was not replaced and Russell was not told about it, so he actually destroyed the original 1870's Guitar. So Leigh's reaction in the scene is actually Leigh's actual reaction at the Vintage Guitar being destroyed. Russell did feel bad about it when he learnt it was actually the Antique that was destroyed and the fact that Leigh's has been learning to play the Guitar on such a unique Instrument.
It's a heavy movie, but the more I watch it, the more I appreciate it. It's like reading a good book.

I watched this movie in cinema and I loved it. Tarantino movies are so similar and at the same time so different. This movie has almost everything Tarantino movies tend to have, however, it still feels so fresh and different, it's so incredible. I think I still prefer once upon a time in hollywood, but it depends on the day of the week.

This is my fave Tarantino film. Just imagine the reaction of someone discovering the haberdashery in the end: there’s a woman hanged in the middle of the room cuffed to a chopped arm, multiple dead bodies around the room including a headless Mexican, sea of blood, another headless body in the basement, dead horses in the stable, half a dozen more bodies stuffed in the well. Rotten smell of death and spoiled stew. Insane scene in the middle of nowhere lol.
The guitar that got smashed was actually a real, priceless antique on loan from a museum, so Jennifer Jason Leigh's reaction when Kurt Russell breaks it is genuine. It was supposed to be swapped for a replica that would be smashed, but somehow Russell didn't get the memo and destroyed the real one

Jennifer Laison's reaction to the guitar smashing is true because the props department did not switch to the breakaway guitar, and the one that was broken was an original Martin Guitar that was a museum piece priced at 40K.
*Fun Facts:* (1) The house featured in "the Hateful Eight" is the same house from "Once Upon a Time in the West" (1968). (2) The soundtrack composer is Ennio Morricone. He also composed the music for many of Sergio Leone's films.
57:52 Quentin Tarantino actually did do a stage reading of this after the original script leaked online. He was so pissed that he wasn't gonna make the movie, but he reconsidered after rewriting it.
