The Handler from Monster Hunter World was seemingly originally planned to help you in the field as her concept art shows her with a Hunting Horn, which makes sense as that means she would buff you while out in the field.
She doesn’t do this in the actual game though.
Probably hadn't quite worked out the coding right. That's a shame, because I genuinely like the Handler.
Considering how less dynamically interactive the maps are in Rise, I wouldn't be surprised if part of the reason they couldn't get companions into World/Iceborne was that they couldn't make companion npcs interact with those features properly.

And plays a part in the story and does help you in your hunts both in the story as well as being an optional NPC that you can have hunting with you. There is a reason players loved Fiorayn. Beautiful. Pulls her own weight. And had some pretty badass moments in the cutscenes. There are also a good amount of other NPC’s that you can chose to hunt with you and they all are solid picks.

I like that in Stellar Blade they have a little explanation for it:

I went through Skies of Arcadia about six months ago. Had it so long ago on the Dreamcast but eventually picked it up on the Cube somewhere within the last 10 years or so. Got to feeling like I wanted to play something older and there it was, enjoyed it as much as I ever did.

The funniest bit about US military recruitment is that they've begun to embrace the anime/game fanbase. On the anime side, you might see some recruitment officers in cosplay, like in one Con I went to, USAF Sailor Moon occasionally competed with US Army All Might to a pull up competition. On the game side, they bait players in with playing games like Helldivers, and get them to sign on for more recruitment offers. I think it'll only be a matter of time until we start seeing exclusive cosmetics given to those who talked to a recruiter, even if it's something as silly as a classic M16 skin for whatever game is trending at the time.
