Reverb.... yes. But I setup a separate buss to print the returns to a separate stem(s). Then I export stems dry and nothing on the master buss. Since I score in Quad, all my stems are sent in Quad and stereo. All dry. No processing. Thanks for this Trevor. Alan is a hero of mine 4 shure.
as an engineer who recently started into composition (so probably the opposite of most, haha), this is all really useful, some I knew from engineering days but some I didn't know and found really interesting. thanks Trevor for this! and thanks Alan!
One question about this incredible presentaion. Alan Meyerson specifies that he wants composer stems delivered as a Pro Tools session. Does this mean the composer bounces his stems from his DAW to Pro Tools? What is the methodology? Does Pro Tools live in the same machine as the composer's DAW or is there a preferred method of generating the Pro Tools session by bouncing to another machine?
ProTools is really the only universal DAW we have. Even though I write and export stems out of Cubase, I drop them into ProTools for a QC Check kinda thing.
Thanks so much Alan and Trevor. One question, why are there Dub stages that prefer stereo stems over 5.1 stems? Had some stages which preferred working with stereo stems, got me confused. I am writing in 5.1. (quad) Any idea? Thanks
Thank you Alan and Trevor! Question for Alan, do film composers usually hand in 5.1 stems or Stereo stems? Do you prefer if a composer pans his percussion or other instruments to the surrounds or do you prefer to do the panning yourself?
