Great review of a great product! It looks like it would fit right in to my vintage silver faced systems.
Yes it would look amazing
Great review! I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my own (older, lower-tier) SMSL D1SE. It’s something in their voicing, they dodge a lot of the digital glare people complain about, but they don’t sacrifice any info retrieval for it.
they dont aim for a discussion
Very cool Bruce
I am thinking of getting one too.
Wow! looks like a keeper of a DAC if the soundstage is that wide.
Yes indeed
D400EX and D400ES, which is better?
at this price range you will do a lot better with a separate preamp and dac
From one Boomer to another: excuse me for not knowing.. have you heard the Denafrips Ares II and if so you prefer this SMSL D400 over it?
Thank you
No I haven;'t heard one. However next spring I intend to purchase one provided I have the ability to return it should it not be a good fit.
@@TheBoomerConsumer Of course. I'm located in the 3rd world. There are no options like try and see. Really sucks. When I lived in Japan the shop I bought all my gear from always let me try first. Miss those days.
instead of generic chi fi, with no pride of ownership nothing special about it and the next topping will be better... for 500 more you can get a r2r dac only that's handwired p2p in usa and sounds more natural and real than all those sigma deltas that chase resolution and detail, no filters or stupid switches and remotes no need for firmware updates. digital sources needs taming r2r does that ,tubes in a way as well. were sick of the same stuff with next akm chip and less distortion.
Go buy that R2R dac then. Feel that pride of owning a 1500 dollar dac. *slow clap*
@@-MarkWinston- I had a R2R and returned it. Bought A90/D90 stack and never looked back.
That whole "it's made in the USA/EU, so it's better" thing needs to stop lmao
We as a species have been processing 20Hz to 20Khz for over 70 years now,
we know how to do it,
we know the earth is round and revolves around the sun, which is part of a solar system one out of millions in the galaxy.
This technology should cost $200 max, not 1K which makes this total snake oil at this price.
Go buy a 200 dollar amp, or better go make your own. No point bitchin like a bitch here.
My ears haven't been able to process to 20 kHz after i was about 19 years old my current upper limit is about 13 kHz at the age of 48. This is capitalism. Sellers charge what the market will bear for the product of service. I don't find $1k to be excessive for this unit though it's not twice as good as the SU-9n which I had paid $330 for. I don't know yet if it outperforms my other one which has a MSRP of $1899.
