We had a vacuum molding machine when I was at art college. We had to fill any 'hollow' objects with clay so the base of the object was flat on the bed. This prevented the plastic going under the object (as you found out with the first items you tried). I'm thinking that the shells have uneven edges so those 'spider legs' are air pockets from where the edge of the shell is not 100% in contact with the base. I hope this makes sense. I would suggest testing an object with a flat bottom first :)
Also can you tell me how big the platform is? I'm curious to know how large an object can you make a mold of?
It does make sense. My husband thought the same thing. He sanded the bottom of the shell. NO success. We then finally switched items and used a very flat button. No success. I saw a video where a woman molded flat foam letters. She had veins, too.
@@LollyPalooza Such a shame. Seemed like a brilliant idea. Will be interesting to see what feedback you get from the manufacturers.
With making dice etc use the tiniest ball possible of clay/sculpey, Itty bitty ball so your shape doesn't change, put on bottom, flatten to keep from sliding. You can also search resin dice molding. Gl :)
When you go down go fast. Looks cool but not. Sure if this is for me. I love we are memory keepers but lately there products been a mess
So are you saying I should or should not go fast? Thanks. We have tried different speeds, but what have you found best?
We had a large one at my work years ago we had problems like that before. Maybe it’s the suction
we tried a different vacuum too. Still trying to figure it out.
The thing causing the webbing is the opposite of what was conjectured in the video. It's a product of the plastic being heated too much and becoming too saggy so that it has the looseness necessary to crease.
we did try to heat up the plastic less so that it wasn't as saggy. BTW, that's a creative RUclips account name -- gave me a giggle!
@@LollyPalooza Thanks! I have seen a video on a different vacuum former/vacuform machine in which it was said that the plastic was only to be allowed to droop a quarter to half an inch beneath the frame before being applied and vacuumed onto the object.
I think having the plastic to hot and vacuum to strong creates a fluid plastic?
Someone also suggested that the heating element is not heating evenly
Is it because the bottom of the shell is not flat, therfor it sucks more at edges that are higher on the bottom.
Could be. My husband sanded the shell to make it flat. However, we tried different shells, too, without success, and different items without success. :( Check out video parts 2 and 3
Could it be the grade of acrylic?
Sorry for your frustration. It’s sad to go from so excited about something and spending so much money on it to wishing you hadn’t bothered. Live and learn. It happens to the best of us. Plus it’s so bulky 🤨
yup. I have spent two very frustrating days on these experiments, plus all the wasted acrylic and time spent editing videos. Part 2 will be up in 24 hours.
Hi Lolly, I vacuum form jason hockey masks and sell them online. I too had these same problems. What I found that worked for me was you have to take in consideration the type of plastic that is used.. I use .125 ABS plastic to make my masks.. And through alot of trial an error that the droop is very important aswell. I can tell that the plastic that you are using is very thin so it shouldn't take to long to start drooping. Try just letting the plastic heat up for alittle not having a huge droop, try this with the smaller molds like your clam. The bigger the object the more droop. This worked for me...
Sounds great
I wonder if it’s a suction issue?
I'm getting a really good impression of the shell detail and the platform (it's got texture), but to be sure, we even tried a ShopVac.
@@LollyPalooza sorry for the frustration. I would be pretty bummed myself. Shopcvac is pretty powerful!
Something just occurred to me. Is the vein affecting the inside of the mold? I get that it is on the top, but is it creating a ridge inside the mold where you will be creating the mold? So disappointing!
Some are right in the mold. The use I have in mind, though, also requires a smooth border all the way around the image.
I figured out why we're getting creases in our finished mold. I was thinking if you're using a big mold you would want the plastic to melt down to the inch, but if you're doing something smaller you don't need to let the plastic melt but just a little bit. If you're molding small objects and you let the plastic melt down to one inch then you will get creasing because the bubble is caving in on itself. I hope this is making sense. I let my plastic melt maybe a half inch at the most and it worked perfectly. And I'm doing small objects. The solution for a Memory Maker would be if the plastic melted all the way from side to side the exact same amount instead of only from the center and out.
this makes a lot of sense. We always had better luck with melting it down to 3/4" than we did with one inch
I did not got it, because in the presentation, you can see those spider webs, and after the terrible experience with the button maker, I prefer to wait until I really know that it function properly.
I've heard the button maker didn't meet expectations.
I recommend getting a temperature gun..they are relatively cheap and help to determine what temp the sheet really is at to maximize best results. The "webbing" ( thermo-form term) is result of slack in the heated plastic, sharp corners can also cause it. One cure is to use another round domed simple object near but not touching any spot close to common areas where webbing occurs. The additional object volumetric takes up the "slack".
thanks for watching
I found that mine took like 30 minutes to heat the plastic and even then, it wasn’t even melted enough 😥
It was so sad. Wish it could have worked better.
I have just got one. Thank you for sharing your experience, I thought it was just me having problems! Tried it but not impressed, I found that the suction towards the edges not as good as at the centre? I tried just a simple square at first, this was ok but took two attempts to get it right, then I tried with small items such as buttons or cabochons,.Whilst some of the buttons were ok others wouldn’t form properly? I wasted lots of acetate trying different ways like you, even different vacuums! I’ve been looking forward to this for so long but sadly disappointed and will be returning it to the retailer.
So disappointing, right? I have done a part two and part three to this series.
@@LollyPalooza extremely, especially after waiting so long. I'll look for your other videos and see what you found! I have lots of We R Memory Keepers, its one of my favourite companies and this is the first time I have been let down by one.
so excited when I see this. Thanks for the review. Guess I will hold off my purchase. =(
many thanks
The spider webbing tends to occur normally with industrial vac formers when the material is not hot enough. I see you tried a bunch of times, so i would guess maybe a faulty machine. I have seen a few other demo's and you appear to be the only person having issues from what i have seen.
I've gotten several comments stating others have had this issue. Seems to be combination of size of item being molded, amount of time heated, and a cheap, small heating element.
Bummer~😏 Hopefully they will respond with a simple solution. 🤞 TFS Lolly.
Wish this hug could make it better!🤗
I hope so too. We have continued to try different variables, and we're still not succeeding.
Thanks for the demo. A neat tool to make shakers with if it worked right but I will just stick to using dies.
Thank you. A follower recommended one more thing. If that does not work, I'm sending it back.
One video has suggested not to let the plastic get to 1 inch. The thinner objects heat the plastic for 1.5 minutes? Also drop vacuum suction pressure?
I have 3 videos in this series (linked under this video) showing all the options we tried. Definitely found that less heating time was best.
Wow! So disappointing! Great demo/video!
Thanks for watching! Still experimenting -- hubby the engineer has taken it on as a challenge. We've changed even more variables without success.
Great review it is interesting you keep getting the same results in the same places will wait to hear what they reply to you. Tfs😊🇨🇦
Fingers crossed! I just finished part two and will share it on Friday!
Considering the closest competitor is like 6 times the price, this is definitely worth it, unless you build your own.
Maybe not so worth it if it doesn't work.
@@LollyPalooza you're just using it wrong.
@@DirtyPlumbus Which is why the video is up. I have three parts to this series, showing everything we tried.
@@LollyPalooza I didn't see your other videos, and I don't blame you. The instructions they gave people were definitely oversimplified and bound to lead to failures.
The immediate thing that jumps out is the concept that the plastic drooping to set amount for anything will work. Realistically this idea is bound to lead to wrinkles in your molds. Ideally your plastic should about half the height of whatever you're molding, more than that and you have excess plastic that needs to go somewhere.
For the price, the machine is great. The only thing comparable in the price range would be building one yourself and then you have to deal with handling a heat source (usually an oven) separately, which complicates things more.
Similar to 3d printing, things aren't as cut and dry as sellers would lead people to believe. Most households will find the intricacies of 3d printing and the machine maintenance to be a bit too much.
@@DirtyPlumbus Thank you for all the input :)
The test/trial runs were interesting to watch -- not sure I'd ever find a use for this type of product.
And frankly, since I just want to make unique shaker cards, is this price really worth it anyway? For someone who makes and sells candles and soaps, it's probably a better idea.
Thanks for the review! I almost got this from HSN and then cancelled it! Let us know what the company says, it sure is a good idea once they perfect it!
Will do! I have one more trick to try, thanks to a viewer.
@@LollyPalooza can't wait to see if the trick works
I saw another youtuber try this and had same results.
So far I've only seen one video have an easy time of it. :(
Those plastic sheets might be reusable...reheat them same as before..the shape will disappear and the sheet is remoldable.
Nice tip, but too late for me -- already returned it
Your vacuum is not strong enough
Check out parts two and three
Can I ask about your bracelet? I love it!
I got them from a shop called Mary Jane's, but I don't see them on their website: www.shopmaryjanes.com/ I had purchased them in store.
Lolly Palooza Thank you. I enjoyed your videos. I think Memory Keepers owes you an explanation for the problems with their machine.
Oh no. I haven’t tried mine yet. So very disappointing.
I saw one video, VERY long, where everything she molded was perfect, but every other video showed veins/wrinkles on the mold
Wow, I was so excited to see a good demo, which you did. How disappointing that both tries did not work well for you. Maybe they figured out that a large item would take up more room and not create the side spiders. Did you notice if the shell demo had a solid bottom as "pippipants" noted using a clay filler. I think I will hold off putting this on my wishlist for now. Thank you for sharing such a good and honest video.
Try contacting WMK, they may send you replacement sheets if you explain to them the issues you are having. Also maybe give you helpful hints that are NOT on instructions.
I ended up doing two more videos with way more tests (the videos are linked under this video). All attempts failed. I returned the machine.
I've found WRMK to be a bit hit and miss with their products. Some are excellent (the Crop-o-dile) and some are not so great (the dial trimmer). This machine worked so well during the demo at Creativation. 😕 I hope you can get it working!
Thanks for sharing! Yes, this is what I've heard many, many craters say. Hit or miss. Another "bomb" was their Label-it. It was so bad -- they did a demo at Creativation and never did release it.
Nope not worth it. As Marie Dun said their products lately are a mess, and I have returned them and got my money back. My friend bought this and it was a mess, problems just like you are having and more. Hope you get it straightened out. I have a lot of their products and like and use them but not of late.
ugh. Well, we wasted more time on this. Then hubby kept on working on it, on his own. Engineers don't like to quit! :) Part two will be up on Friday
I hope it come with a lot of sheets being its taking so many trying to figure it out doing everything you can, I bought another product, my first purchase ever, came damaged. I can't get a reply from contacting them through their website or FB messaging who told me to email them directly, I explained I had and could they please get them to respond to me, they read the message but didn't reply. I don't do business with companies that have poor customer service. I wanted a resolution being I live in a very rural area that will inconvenience me in having to make the drive to the post office, my time, gas, postage. I'm not going to stand for them taking my money either though so I'm going to leave them the reviews they deserve until they make this right ✅
Thank goodness you bought from HSN.
you can email them at info@americancrafts.com The Mold Press came with only 4 sheets of the plastic, but I had also purchased a box of them with my order.
Well this stinks, so sorry you are having so much trouble with this machine!! I remember watching the video when you were at the convention and they made it look so easy. Hope you get results from the company, sure it's very frustrating! TFS!!
They did. It was perfect. However, I went back and watched someone else on their YT channel, and she had a small vein on her project but ignored it.
Also, they even have the creases in the sheet in their official demo video on RUclips, so their instructions likely wouldn't be the best to adhere to for avoiding that. I realize they managed to make demo vacuforms without those at the convention, but nonetheless, having the sheets on the heating element for a significantly shorter length of time will probably result in the molds coming out better.
Thanks for the info!
Please do let us know what the company says. I got one, but haven’t used it yet. Don’t know if I’ve waited too long to send it back. I have a feeling it’s just one of those few things that WeR makes that’s a dud. The fact that HSN put it on sale before many places even got it makes me think that might be why.
you never know with WRMK. That's sad. It's hit or miss.
I think its not enought suction. Try the new vacuum 🤔
For part two, we tried a new vacuum, we tried a warmer room, and we tried a different object (not a shell)
Well i just got one of these tried it out and am having the same results as you! I was wondering if you sent yours back? I can't seem to get it apart:( Any tips on how to get the colomns to come away from the top and bottom so i can repackage it? Thanks so much
Yes, I returned mine. I could not get mine apart, either. One viewer had the same trouble, but another viewer said hers came apart. I happened to have a large enough box to ship it back.
Lolly Thank you for testing this out for us. They should have trouble shooting directions at least. Sheesh.
We have experimented even more, without any success.
Thank you for this. I just got an email from Michael’s about this and was like “oooooh! That’s really cool! I could use it for soap molds!” I saw it had only one review and that it was bad. So I took to RUclips and found this. I appreciate you running the demo and saving us all some money.
Glad it was helpful!
I am so sorry. It is sad to hear the disappointment in your voice as I know you've been waiting for this since Creativation. I hope WRMK responds and give you the help you need to make it work.🤗
Thank you so much! I sure hope so. I got a standard automated response email so far.
Glad I found this. I have been thinking of getting this as I do a lot of resin, candy and other projects that I want to make molds for
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for the review Lolly❣️ This would have been on my wish list, and a disappointment when I finally purchased it. Hopefully they can improve their product to where it works for us.
I would hope. Make sure you watch part two and part three!
Thank you for this demo! So sad that it isn't working correctly! Hope you're able to get it resolved quickly!
I hope so too! We spent another full morning trying everything . . .
Practice, practice, practice and then enjoy your new crafty toy....
we're still working at it. He and I tried more variables, then we gave up, but he kept thinking about it and went and tried more variables on his own. Still no success.
thanks for the review I was thinking of getting one but I will hold off for now
Glad I could help. I did a part two and part three as well -- listed under this video. I kept on trying!
bummer. i am anxious to hear what they say,,,,lynette
me, too. Kinda doubting I'll ever hear from them.
Very disappointing Lolly. Maybe they will make some adjustments to make this work better and correctly. Thanks for taking the time to do this. Blessings and Hugs 🤗
Thanks for watching!
Wow, that’s too bad. A) how much was it? And B) please update us once you either return it or hear back from them. Good luck! 😁
Will do! I paid $69.95 plus shipping on HSN, plus the extra plastic sheets I bought.
Denise Auger
you have to actually send her the link to the video. She won't see her name here :)
Try heating it up again
we heated up one of them and retried. Maybe we need to try again
turn the hose adapter around. with the smaller end int othe hose, and the bigger end on the machine.
will do. We had to have it the way I did on video because we also tried a Shop Vac, and we needed it this way, but I flipped it around and will try.
va bene solo con le conchiglie? non mi sembra un buon prodotto. Si spreca anche tanta plastica.
thank you
Best thing to do is text we r memory keepers
I've tagged them twice on Instagram and have emailed them.
I ordered something from them for the first time ever a month ago. No reply from email sent to company, I messaged through FB and about a week later told to email them! I told them I had with no reply. They read message me asking them to get in touch with them for me, no reply! I will not do business with companies that have poor customer services!
Good luck Lolly! I know this was an expensive machine! Looking forward to see what the company has to say....
You and me both!
I can't believe how much trouble you are having. I wonder if you just have a lemon.
I'm wondering, too, but I am also getting many comments from viewers that they have returned theirs.
