American wasteland is still my all time favorite tony hawk game. I put a ridiculous amount of hours in online lobbies. My first skateboarding game was THPS 1 but wasteland is still my favorite in the series. I truly dont understand why it gets so much hate. The combos people use to pull on the train map were insane.
My favorite is thps3 (6th gen) becuase I have spent the most time on it and like it the most. But in my opinion, the first game to underground were the best ones in the franchise.
THPS will always remind me of some of the best moments of my childhood. I played the original quite thoroughly at a friend's place, but the first one I owned was THPS3. I played every single game in the series after that up until American Wasteland. I remember one of the games on the original Xbox (I think it was THUG 2) that allowed you to import your own custom soundtracks, that was just amazing at the time. These games fueled my love for sports like this, also Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX and the MX vs ATV series. The X games came shortly afterwards and I could not get enough. Good times.
I fucking loved the SSX3. Played that game till the disk broke, and bought another. I'm from a tropical Asian country with no snow and nothing but humidity all year long yet I still loved it. Kinda miss the times when games were made by passionate developers without their meddling publishers squeezing microtransactions and dlcs. I'd trade back today's modern graphics for that golden era when games were actually fun and not content locked.
The Tony Hawk games were some of my absolute favorite games growing up, I remember coming home from school just so I could sit down with my current TH game and play it for HOURS nonstop, I loved them so much. I loved how each new entry made combos easier to make longer, how the levels got bigger and more complex, how fun it was just to skate around doing tricks on all the different environments. I had all the main games, THPS1 and 2 on PS1, 3 and 4 on ps2, THUG 1 and 2, American Wasteland on 360, and project 8 on 360, and I could definitely notice a decline in quality past THUG. I was excited with THPS HD came out that I bought it immediately on steam, but I was also immediately bummed out since it only had a handful of levels (FROM 3 GAMES TOTAL) and I KNEW the physics were off, I was failing tricks and combos that I know I could land in the actual games. I didn't even get 5 because of HD, and I'm glad because it was just an insult to the Tony Hawk game fans. Then I found THUGPRO and I fell in love with the game(s) again, seriously I love this community! Thank you everyone for supporting this series, it makes me so happy to see people so dedicated to helping others enjoy the game(s) the way they were MEANT to me enjoyed. It makes me tear up ;w;
same here. It came out while i was in college at a time when i was very stressed out and it just hit the spot and helped me relax when i needed to. I still have a copy of the 360 version laying around somewhere all though i thing THUG or THPS 2 are my over all favorite games as i played those way to much with a friend back in the day.
I remember how excited I was for Tony Hawk 5. I remember thinking "This is going to be the last game made, they are going to end on a high. An old school online Tony Hawk game that will be played for years to come with your friends." Imagine my shocked pikachu face when it required a day one patch to work because they shipped without content. RIP franchise.
@@ThisHandleFeatureIsStupid It was awesome because of Viva La Bam and Jackass. Its my fav out of all the games. Just bought a PS2 so i could play them all again!
Had to pause 4 minutes in to take in how much content they managed to cram into a game that was just a fraction of the size of today's games. PS1 - less than 1GB PS2 - less than 4GB PS3/PS4 - 8GB Patches! This is why I still believe graphics don't make the game, the content and gameplay does.
I think it also shows how releasing games has changed. When games were released previously they had to work. If they didn't they were useless. Now days there is a big push just to get games to market even if aren't fully functional. "Don't worry, we'll patch it"
Exactly! I spent more time playing the original THPS on N64 than any game I've played in the last 10 years (GTA5 might be close, and GTA3 for the decade before), but you're totally right--gameplay makes the game over graphics for sure.
I mean those patches are usually a result of texture size increasing, as well as possibly video and music files increasing in quality. But what's even more of a crime is that THPS 5 came with an empty disc. The day one patch was essentially the whole game.
I remember playing the first game in the series off a PlayStation underground demo disc. It was the warehouse level, with a couple minutes, and “Superman” by Goldfinger playing non-stop. Never have I nor my friends played such a demo that repeatedly. I probably had ended up playing that demo warehouse level a whole two or three times more than the actual game (as much as I played that especially multiplayer).
Your "History of" series of video definitely deserve more views! Let me post them on my website and see if that can generate more traffic for ya. You do great work!

This was such a great nostalgia trip! I played 1 through THUG 2, then Project 8 (all at release time). Never played any of the other releases, though. I'd love to see this series rebooted, and done well.
I don’t know who accused Underground 2 of having a “less interesting soundtrack” but whoever they are can shut the heck up. That game had Melvins, Dead Boys, Stooges, Joy Division, Fear, Ween and so much other great stuff. Probably my third favourite soundtrack in the series behind THPS4 and Underground 1

inkedup flyboy nothing wrong with it this guy just has his opinion on it. And I love this game myself remember when my mom brought it for Christmas for me along with call of duty big red one damn I miss my childhood
I had the good luck of being a teenager when the PS1 and THPS1 appears, starting to doing skateboarding with my friends, on years where finding skate VHS videos or street music on cassettes was really hard (at least here)... and boom!! A pirated CD with a game we can share with our friends, with the best music I have heard on my life so far... when I unlocked the video of Rodney Mullen I couldn't believe what I were seeing, man! I ride my skate for another 10 years without been able to land a casper slide... man How I missed those old days... I felt blessed by all the things that coincide: skate with friends, first punk rock shows, first skate parks on country, Jackass on tv, first parties, and later due world recession, all those bands come to Southamerica for very first time and I could also see them. Thanks for those good old days.
No, the nail in the coffin was THPS 5. Skate's success hardly had anything to do with it because the series was already going downhill after proving grounds.
agreed played all tony hawks as they came out none of them touch what ea did with skate man and no one talked about playing tony hawk after. hands down skate 3 is the best skate game of all time.
THPS3 was/is one of my favorite video games ever. I played that every day after school when I was a kid. I'd love it if they did a THPS3+4 remaster 👀 or even incorporated it in with 1+2. 1+2 is the game we all needed this year!
Stanley Shady dude American wasteland had a great story and so did underground. Just fun games man. The graphics from those are nothing compared to today.
American Wasteland has a special place for me as the only one I ever got to play on the 360. I had a Nintendo 64 with the original and that was my favorite (even if it was a bit stripped down from the Playstation version) but we never really had a place for it on the entertainment center so I had to dig it out of the closet to play. American Wasteland I got out of a $5 bin at Gamestop as a compromise because the 360 was always hooked up and I always had a blast with it. The soundtrack had nothing on Goldfinger and Primus, but it still was a good enough jam, and I liked the customization aspects. It was far from the game the nostalgia makes it into, but the only other go-to games when my friends were over were Halo (3, briefly Reach) and the good Battlefront 2 so for all its flaws I loved it.
@@SuperMaleVitality awesome bro.. Wasteland was still a greatttt game for sure.. I like ur taste in games.. Halo 2 was THE BEST. Halo 3 was still legitt
I can't believe how much these games were a part of my childhood, like I legitimately forgot how many of them I played. Pro Skater 3, Underground 1 & 2, American Wasteland, Downhill Jam....I played the hell out of all of em.
I spent way too much time on Tony Hawk's Underground, when I was 12 or 13 years old. I probably played that game more than any other game in the series. To the point where I actually had to buy another copy of it because I played the original to death. As someone else said, I too have a random soft spot for American Wasteland. I don't know why. It was probably the last in the series that I really spent any time with, after playing THPS 1-4 and Underground religiously. I broke out the old PS2 for my 5 year old son, and Pro Skater 4 was the first game I popped in for him. He loved it.
I live in Charlotte, NC. There was a skatepark off Westinghouse BLVD that was built by a design someone made in Tony Hawks Pro Skater... it was awesome
Right? It is my favorite one (Underground 1 comes right after), the controls feels like there's a better flow to the movements, and hey East L.A is one of the most played levels in THUG PRO, it's great for combos.
THPS2 and Underground were my favorites. They'd be wise to make a new one on the nextgen PS5/Xbox whatever and get back to basics. Bring back the most popular songs from all of the games, bring back nostalgic levels, and make the game play more inline with what made it good from the get go.
Never seen a single one of your videos, but this is fantastic. Makes me sad to see your pinned comment that these are your least viewed videos. This is excellent stuff, subscribed 👍🏻
played tony hawk pro skater (n64) and i loved that song when i played back in 2000. and still does its such a good song. so much nostalgia when i listen to it today.
Underground 1&2 and American Wasteland were my childhood for sure. Online was so much fun. You could add people as friends and send each other little texts messages and stuff man I missed those online days even though I was way too young to be on there talking to teenagers and adults 😂 but Project 8 and proving ground was okay but i definitely felt like it was going down from there
2k views?! This is criminal! Such a high quality video with so much research put on it... That's a shame! I hope you get recognized soon :) PS: my favorite is THPS2, no wonder it's one of the best games on metacritic, haha! :d
as a THPS fan i played 1-3 and my interest died after i forced myself to play 4... never played anything after that. I keep hearing Underground was the best one ever made but could never get myself to play it. i was burnt out.
Forgot to mention the international THPS2 contest. A demo game came out of THPS2 with Marsell France. This was the prequel to boost interest and support for the second release
Amen to that brother. My favourite part was getting 100% on all the BTTs (Blue Text Transfers). That was as much fun as completing the challenges and levels.
I absolutely loved Underground 2. The whole series was silly and arcady and that game nailed it by not taking itself too seriously. It's like the Saint's Row of Skateboarding games and I absolutely loved it!
The original THPS had a massive impact on me. It was my first introduction into what would become a life long passion for skateboarding. None of the people I met or the adventures I had with a skateboard, would have happened if I hadn't borrowed my mates demo of THPS back in '99; I'm pretty sure of that.
It brings back so many great memories and damn I've been playing Tony Hawk Pro Skater II so much that it almost caught fire on my Playstation and my mom was so mad at me because when I got home from school my mom only reached just to see the shadow of me before spending the rest of the day and evening playing. Fun fact: I remember waking up often at night just to play
They need to remaster Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3. The first two has been remastered no less than three times (first on the original Xbox, then THPS HD, and finally THPS 1+2 that came out a few years back). But Pro Skater 3 always gets shafted, for some reason. It's my favorite of the Pro Skater games (my favorite in general is either Underground 2 or American Wasteland).
The memories of coming home from elementary school, turning on the n64, and playing with my older brother where he was always player 1 as Tony hawk and I was player 2 as Bucky Lasek are some of my favorite memories of childhood.
Who remembers the old RUclips video of "skateboarder beats up jocks" it's a toss up between which video I looked up on RUclips first. It was either that one or kimbo slice. Ahhh the nostalgia!
In the UK THPS was changed to Tony Hawk's Skateboarding because the UK Activision division thought that they would think that they would think that it would be an ice skating simulator (even though there is a man riding a skateboard on the cover).
Not gonna lie thug 2 is one of my guilty pleasures I love that game and also project 8 is my favorite out of the entire series there hasn't been a tony hawk game like it in a long time and I don't think there ever will be it was unique and felt so realistic
I remember watching my brother try to beat the shopping cart Alcatraz mission for hours on end. Bam is pretty entertaining in Jackass, a decent skater, but I really hated how much his element took over this franchise.
Skate was so good it annoyed me the tony hawk franchise didn't think of it. How do you develop a new game every year and release a skateboard controller and not think" let's try thumb controls and realistic physics "
ah man the memories... I used to play THPS1 & 2, but THPS 3 has like my best memory. I used to play this game as a kid at my uncles place. He was like in his late 20s and used to skate so it felt so cool hanging out with him and playing THPS3!

Let’s be real. EA Skate was the nail in the coffin for THPS
The series was killing itself already. Skate was a big hit for sure, but don't underestimate Activision's fuckuppery.
No, the nail in the coffin was THPS 5. Skate's success hardly had anything to do with it because the series was already going downhill after proving grounds.
skate 3 honestly beats most of these
agreed played all tony hawks as they came out none of them touch what ea did with skate man and no one talked about playing tony hawk after. hands down skate 3 is the best skate game of all time.
@@theogbigsmoke6195 Nothing tops Tony Hawk Underground 1 imo.
The first one was dope. Nostalgic af.
I remember loving this franchise as a kid and making sure the year’s new Tony Hawk game was on my Santa list every Christmas lol
THPS3 was/is one of my favorite video games ever. I played that every day after school when I was a kid. I'd love it if they did a THPS3+4 remaster 👀 or even incorporated it in with 1+2. 1+2 is the game we all needed this year!
Here re-watching this once again after the announcement that a bundle of Pro Skater 1&2 Remastered will be coming soon for just 40$
Damn, thought it was gonna be 60
@@sicsiddd yeah ik! 40 just makes it all that more enticing! 👍
@@sicsiddd $60 is just new games and $40 is just either remastered or remake games
Tony Hawk had hip hop soundtracks as well, it wasn't just punk rock
I've never liked hip hop or rap, but the playlists had some decent tunes of that genre to skate to
Definitely feel like hip hop wasn't represented all that well in the earlier games
@@jordannewitt THPS 2 had the classic tracks B-Boy Document and Pin The Tail On The Donkey.
@@shaggydog9789 I was introduced to Atmosphere thanks to THUG2. Trying To Find A Balance.

American wasteland is actually my favourite, then underground
you're prob real young and focus all ur attention on graphics huh?
@@omaraellosiii8171 yea ur right. I like wastelands new additions like story modes..
I can't believe how much these games were a part of my childhood, like I legitimately forgot how many of them I played. Pro Skater 3, Underground 1 & 2, American Wasteland, Downhill Jam....I played the hell out of all of em.
I LOVE these retrospective pieces. Please keep doing them!!
Don’t forget Underground 2 REMIX exclusive to PSP. I believe it came with 2 new levels. One was a casino.
Hey man this is an excellent video. Found it off of the THPS subreddit. liked and subbed
Underground was the peak of my childhood
THPS2 was, and is, one of the best games ever made
Tony Hawk Underground is my favourite with still the greatest twist in gaming history.
I personally loved American wasteland
"Kelly Slater from some surf game" ... come on, you gotta KNOW THE DUDE!
Even I know who he his and I’ve never played that game before. This dude was just being plain disrespectful. 😤
@@keijijohnson9754 whoooooosshhh
For me Tony Hawk 4 was my favorite. Probably because it was the only one I ever owned.
THPS 4 is one of the good Tony Hawk games. It's only the ones released after THUG 2 that are questionable.
He loved it.
same homie
Excellent video, watched all the way through with no skips.
Idk why ppl hate underground 2 and American wasteland so much I love it
Thoes where the best
Thug2 thaw and tony hawks project 8 are the best
This brought back so many awesome childhood memories man... thank you!
I live in Charlotte, NC. There was a skatepark off Westinghouse BLVD that was built by a design someone made in Tony Hawks Pro Skater... it was awesome
American wasteland was awesome don’t know what you’re talking about
You must be young.
Right? It is my favorite one (Underground 1 comes right after), the controls feels like there's a better flow to the movements, and hey East L.A is one of the most played levels in THUG PRO, it's great for combos.
TechHandle tbh yeah I didn’t get into the tony hawk series till pro skater 3 . I’m 21
whiterthan hitler I’m a yellow
The EquAsian word
THPS2 and Underground were my favorites. They'd be wise to make a new one on the nextgen PS5/Xbox whatever and get back to basics. Bring back the most popular songs from all of the games, bring back nostalgic levels, and make the game play more inline with what made it good from the get go.
I had so much fun playing the original game on my PS1 when I was around 7 years old
Used to play as Rodney Mullen in all the games. Hope he returns in the remaster!
you don't have to hope, he's in.
Represent
I want another GOOD Pro Skater game :'(
As do I
Or just a remaster of the old games!
After that HD effort I just play the originals and live in the past
Play THPS 3, 4, or THUG. THPS 2 of you’re feeling nostalgic.
Well you're in luck, Thps 1 & 2 are confirmed for a remaster for PS4 & XBOX ONE Sept 4th
watched this because im getting hyped for the 2020 remake collection, hopefully if it sells well they'll remake 3+ 4 and underground
I’d love to go back in time it was an amazing time in my life....
Now that I think about it, the evolution from THPS to THPS 4 was huge
Yeah I mean THPS1 didn't have manuals or reverts, which are the foundations of combos in general. Not to mention spine transfers, etc.
4 blew my mind back then. It was like tony hawks meet gta
Never seen a single one of your videos, but this is fantastic. Makes me sad to see your pinned comment that these are your least viewed videos. This is excellent stuff, subscribed 👍🏻
Love the video, thank you for the nostalgia. ❤️🔥
Goldfinger gives me the feels *loads spotify*
omg expidition theme park, thats cool you are a fan of the tony hawk pro skater!
played tony hawk pro skater (n64) and i loved that song when i played back in 2000. and still does its such a good song. so much nostalgia when i listen to it today.
I hope you get recognized soon :)
PS: my favorite is THPS2, no wonder it's one of the best games on metacritic, haha! :d
as a THPS fan i played 1-3 and my interest died after i forced myself to play 4... never played anything after that. I keep hearing Underground was the best one ever made but could never get myself to play it. i was burnt out.
omg underground 2 was the best game ive ever played oh man thanks for the flashback
Forgot to mention the international THPS2 contest. A demo game came out of THPS2 with Marsell France. This was the prequel to boost interest and support for the second release
I come from the future: THE TONY HAWK SAGA CONTINUES AND BETTER THAN EVER BABY
The first 4 Tony Hawk games shaped my childhood. This video brought back great memories and great feelings associated with those memories.
THPS 2 best of series.
Change my mind
Amen to that brother. My favourite part was getting 100% on all the BTTs (Blue Text Transfers). That was as much fun as completing the challenges and levels.
3 was best, 2 had the best music
3 was the best
Second best to THUG.
No need, you are 100% correct.
Now I have a sudden urge to play from THPS3 to Project 8. Thanks for the trip down memory lane, my dude.
exact same thought
T.H.U.G was the best game in the series and the secret kiss concert level was awesome!
I absolutely loved Underground 2. The whole series was silly and arcady and that game nailed it by not taking itself too seriously. It's like the Saint's Row of Skateboarding games and I absolutely loved it!
Who got here after announcment of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 Remaster?
The original THPS had a massive impact on me. It was my first introduction into what would become a life long passion for skateboarding. None of the people I met or the adventures I had with a skateboard, would have happened if I hadn't borrowed my mates demo of THPS back in '99; I'm pretty sure of that.
It’s crazy how much time I spent playing THPS
lol finished thps3 just a week ago, with this lockdown ive gone on a mission to relive the classics
I can imagine a lot of nostalgia?
I used to play Pro skater for hours on PS1, such a great game
Still play it to this day, good times.
I have to say I love Project 8 and have some fond memories of completing that game, such a great & innovative game at that time.
Really enjoyed this video m8
"The linking for the controller was really awesome..." 🗨😏🎮🀄🎴
THUG was by far my favorite.
The memories of coming home from elementary school, turning on the n64, and playing with my older brother where he was always player 1 as Tony hawk and I was player 2 as Bucky Lasek are some of my favorite memories of childhood.
"Mike Valley" lol

Who remembers the old RUclips video of "skateboarder beats up jocks" it's a toss up between which video I looked up on RUclips first. It was either that one or kimbo slice. Ahhh the nostalgia!
@@ispartacus1337 He kicked their asses. Mike V
Totally was terrified of the opening credit scene of Tony Hawk Underground when Eric gets eaten lol
THPS2 and THUG2 forever in my heart
In the UK THPS was changed to Tony Hawk's Skateboarding because the UK Activision division thought that they would think that they would think that it would be an ice skating simulator (even though there is a man riding a skateboard on the cover).
"As the contract with Tony Hawk himself has finally ended"... well tbf Tony did say recently that he'd like new THPS games
He needs the money.... haha!
Nothing could ever change my mind, underground 2 is the greatest game of all time and I’ll replay it every year for ever
Thumbs up if you are here after the announcement of the remake of Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 + 2

This video never gets boring. THPS is my actual favourite game of all time.
I remember the graphics being so great, lol. guess times move on
Skate was so good it annoyed me the tony hawk franchise didn't think of it. How do you develop a new game every year and release a skateboard controller and not think" let's try thumb controls and realistic physics "
Bc they never wanted there game to be based on real physics and realism
Best games ever from my generation !
My favorite game in the series is Underground 2 mostly because the margera’s appear in the game. LOVE those guys!
One thing I never liked about American Wasteland is they had emo bands cover classic punk bands’ songs.
ah man the memories... I used to play THPS1 & 2, but THPS 3 has like my best memory. I used to play this game as a kid at my uncles place. He was like in his late 20s and used to skate so it felt so cool hanging out with him and playing THPS3!
