So, I found your channel on my recommendations and binged most of your Birthright videos. There’s some very impressive game knowledge to be found here, as well as some sick strategies! Hope you don’t mind answering a few questions: 1- You advocated for the Setsuna/Subaki here and on your Paralogue 1 video. Why not build the Hinoka & Setsuna friendship, since they both give you the same end goal of Sky Knight skills and the support growth is faster? 2- From what I can tell, Oni Chieftan Hayato already gets a very nice endgame class (Bolt Axe + Tome access for his high Magic and good bulk) and some nice skills (Magic +2 and Tomefaire for damage, Shove for utility) from his base classes alone. Who could be a good wife to increase his damage output/utility options? 3- Why do you pursue the Silas & Kaze friendship? Do you think it’s worth it to build Sol Master Ninja Silas in Birthright? 4- You mentioned in your Paralogue 1 video that Hayato & Azama is a good friendship to build, both to get Azama out of staff lock and to get skills on Hayato. What would be a good build for Azama in Oni Savage? And is Renewal that good in Birthright? Once again, those were some amazing strategies, with pretty cool positioning tricks and clever usage of dual strikes to clear out enemies. Already subscribed and can’t wait for the next one c:
1. Setsuna + Subaki produces a child paralogue with a new unit and enemies to get EXP from while Setsuna + Hinoka does not. The skills and classes you get from the Sky Knight and Archer lines aren't particularly useful in the context of Birthright outside of Rally Speed since they're player phase focused, while most relevant units in the late game will be doing most of their work on Enemy Phase, so doing the pairing for skills isn't really worth the effort. 2. Unlike Conquest, the classes you get in Birthright don't give particularly good damage stacks outside of Life and Death, which you really don't want to use in combination with Hayato's hit rates. Hayato already has the classes that you'd want for a magical damage stack in the first place with natural access to Mag +2, Tomefaire, and Seal Res. You'd be better off investing in his bulk with skills like Vantage to avoid some counterattacks when he can kill enemies in an odd number of hits, Renewal for HP regen, or the Apothecary skills for better healing. Hayato can do just fine without these things, though. 3. Yes. Birthright's lategame is extremely enemy phase focused, and Sol Master Ninjas are really good on Enemy Phase. Becoming a Sol Master Ninja happens at the easiest stretch of Birthright chapters, right around the time when seals become infinite, and it's not like there's much in the Armory that's particularly worth buying that late into the game outside of forgeables, so you'll generally have more than enough money to buy seals. 4. Azama gets Diviner, and he becomes yet another bulky mage. Bulky mages are good in Birthright. Renewal lets you spend less actions healing and more actions moving forward, letting you play more aggressively since you don't have to worry as much about keeping a healer out of danger, so it's generally nice to have.
1. Oooh, that’s right! For some reason, the child paralogues kinda slipped my mind while I was writing the question. Oops! 2. The seals skills are interesting, especially Seal Speed and Seal Defense/Resistance, but I almost always feel they don’t do much after your units get strong enough to ORKO enemies (which they should more often in Birthright’s easier maps/paralogues compared to Conquest). Magic +2/Tomefaire/Vantage sounds very appealing, so I might try that next run. Shame he can’t get Sol outside of Corrin marriage :c 3. I loooove Sol Master Ninja Silas in Conquest, so I’m glad to know he’s worth it here too. The self healing makes it my favorite proc skill, as I feel it can’t really hurt you like accidentally killing someone with Astra/Luna/Rend Heaven. 4. Diviner on Azama, right! I always pictured him as a bulky physical unit, so I often made him go Apocathery -> Mechanist for the dagger combat, but lower enemy Resistance + great bulk does make him also pretty competent as a magical unit. Thank you for the answers! They were very insightful!
I kept her for my entire run without knowing she was trash. I actually thought she was pretty good, but what do I know lol. I think I just liked her design and personality too much to ditch her.
I’ve used Setsuna and she’s not that bad. She’s an archer so she’s usually a player phase unit only. Her problem is strength but you get a free energy drop in this chapter, plus tonics, or cooking that can fix that. Also the archer skills give her +4 damage on player phase, and most of the units are pathetic in this route anyways until the last few chapters. In comparison to Takumi, she can always double; while also getting access to good promoted classes like Kinshi knight or Mechanist. And if you’re not gonna use her long term just marry her to Takumi and he can be a mechanist, which can easily skip most of the stupid golem volcano chapter. She can’t enemy phase, but there aren’t many units in Birthright that can; from my experience the few that can are Ryoma, Oboro, and Saizo.
You forget about the man the legend the Surf & Turf Master Silas. Also known as the best unit in birthright. Not only did he came in super tanky. Having access to both sword and lance at base. 7 movement because of horse. Which mean he's going far. Also you can reclass him into hero and now he learn Sol so you don't even need to heal him. With Kaze friendship or Kagerou marriage now he can become a ninja. Which mean he will have 1-2 range weapon as well. No other units come close to Silas power in Birthright because they don't have Xander and Camilla there.
@@riqua27 I've used Silas in that setup before and he still couldn't enemy phase the Hans and Iago chapter because all those fuckers have weapon triangle advantage and him being a ninja would die in 2 hits anyways before sol procced.
@@clintwaki6936 Never really an issue for me. If enemy have weapon triangle advantage then switch to sword. Give him a good pair up as well. I usually like to reclass Kagerou into Great Knight and pair her to Silas with S Support. That would give enough defense to tank 3 hits in case Sol didn't pop. Not to mention you can always rally def him since you got Scarlet for free in birthright.
I always see Setsuna as a player phase variant of Kaze. She'd honestly be p great in Conquest, the enemy spam in Birth is not great for her overall utility.
I gotta say, it's bittersweet seeing this series come to an end. I made sure to set the video aside until I could treat myself to a good coffee. These videos are really good; I'd be interested in pretty much any Fates content.
one thing I like about Setsuna is that she doesn't have a characterisation that suggests she is supposed to be very skilled in battle while she is actually very bad as a unit...
That's because her characterization is mostly centered around her being more of a comic relief type of character that gets stuck in traps all the time and is absent-minded 24/7, so it's not often that her skills in combat are highlighted
Very happy to see another upload, I enjoy watching your Birthright videos. I enjoy hearing/seeing the theory crafting and unit building. I love Setsuna as I find her hilarious, unfortunately I do prefer playing through Conquest as I find Birthright a bit boring.
If you make Mozu into an archer instead of a villager, she immediately becomes great, especially in conquest, were you can't even get an archer under normal circumstances.
In Br though, that's just more competition for Takumi and Setsuna. Setsuna already doesn't compare to Takumi outside of speed and res, and Mozu has a worse start than her. Sniper also isn't that good in Br because of the enemy spam.
The heart seal is committed elsewhere is the issue in the case of this run. Same with conquest, she's *a* good use of it, but there are many good uses.
I feel like there’s a surprisingly nuanced discussion to be had regarding the two of them, to be honest. Hana has actual strength and doesn’t need to worry about Yumi hit rates, but Setsuna can double at two range, and avoids counter-attacks for the most part. Both double everything, at least once they get going, and both die almost instantly if they start taking hits.
Unless you know ahead of time who you'll be marrying and what class you want to pass to them, safe bets for talents are Cavalier for Elbow Room's +3 damage and Shelter (and defender if you haven't found a way to get into good 1-2 range class by that point in the game) or Mercenary/Fighter for Strong Riposte/HP +5 and Sol. Passing Sol to your marriage partner makes soloing the game with them pretty easy. As for end game class selection, the clear top 2 are Mechanist for bulky physical shuriken access and Oni Chieftain for bulky tome access, assuming you're planning on playing the late game chapters conventionally.
