I have a old German Army Mountaineer Rucksack from World War II that belonged to my Grandfather.
That Rucksack travelled with me for over 30 years around the World and several times through the whole width and breadth of Africa.
There's nothing wrong with the Fabric, thick Canvas, although the leather-straps are a bit worn by now and I had to replace 10 years ago one of the straps.
That Rucksack will most likely Survive me too.

Thank you Bjorn. i always enjoy your videos from the old places. Theres a calming nature about your videos from these places. I appreciate them greatly as those of us who are un able to get to norway to experience these places get to do so through your videos.

Very good point about finding a backpack to match someone's torso length. I see a lot of ill fitting packs. I am glad that the school children are learning about the history of Opstad - too many places are failing to teach their own histories to the next generation. And thank you for showing Opstad to us also, I learnt something too.

Prime Genesis Thanks, and yes, I see that too. Especially among women. The best backpack is the one that fits your individual back, I’d say!

    A handsome pack.
    I like the removable patches.
54L is quite large, hold a lot of gear and items!
Nicely constructed, and color variety would be a bonus.
Thank you for the great review!
Thank you for the look at the history and all the explanation.

Good review Bjorn. I do various outdoor activities, with Hiking I do long distance hiking/camping and bushwack style hiking/camping. So I use a lightweight 50L pack for long distance hiking (usually on trails). I have a heavier more sturdy pack that I use for more intense on/off trail Bushwack style hiking. If you do any off trail bushwacking a lightweight pack will get torn apart with snags. I guess the old saying right tool right job still applies.

Very good in-depth review of the backpack, looks like it can carry all your stuff for hiking/overnighter that you would ever need.
The drone footage was really nice, it’s a shame that a road was built through the the area.
Thank you again for showing us a little bit of your countryside and bringing us viewers along on your adventures.

The backpack looks to be very nice. I hate to admit, since this is a review of the backpack, but the Opstad burial ground is fascinating. Historical locations are so very interesting to me. Thank heavens it isn't located near an area of urban sprawl or it may not last, even given it's place in the area's history.

I use the 42l version and I must disagree with you about the handle - it’s one of the most genius details about this pack! I use it a lot for hiking, travelling I even used it for a weeklong climbing tour in the alps to carry everything to the basecamp housing. Besides all the other well-designed features the handle makes THE difference for me. I just use it to pick the pack up, set it down, lift it to upper compartments in trains or to settle it in the car. I think this one is the invention I wish every pack had, just because it makes handling the pack so much easier, when not worn on my back.
A supplement I can make due to the fact that I’m quite a skinny guy: I think the padding is kind of thin. When I was hiking in Mallorca in august last year, carrying a lot of water, I really felt the weight on my shoulders. Additionally I am experiencing some issues with the hip-belt as well, so sometimes I get a nasty tickling in my legs from nerves who are compressed by the belt. I then have to put more weight on the shoulders and re-readjust the belt until it sits properly. Nothing really bad, because it works out after some juggling around, but a bit nasty in fact.

That's the reason for the bump at the top that goes against your shoulders, it helps keep that little gap in the mesh that keeps your back cool. Without it the mesh would probably be useless

Hello from NewYork USA. Great video and a real nice pack! It hits all points in a pack that I like in a crossover bushcraft and hiking type. I have 3 other packs and I will have to decide on getting rid of one or two to purchase this beauty! Thanks for the review and keep up the good work.

At 3:20 you talk about the extra bit of fabric you dont care for in between the shoulder straps.
I just got a pack that has this feature. They described why they added it, and if you dont know you may enjoy the reason.
It makes the part that's connected to the pack much longer. It greatly increases the strength of the shoulder straps where it attaches to the pack and allows greater load weights. They called it the yoke.
    I found that interesting.

I bought the 42 L version, it's much less expensive, but just as good, the only difference is 12 liters less storage space & a bit shorter of course. It's easy to add on a expansion bags on top & on front if you need extra space, a module based system is always much more flexible & can adapt to all situations.

I see in your newer videos that you sometimes use an "ultralight" pack by ZPacks. Do you find that you prefer a heavier, more durable pack like this, or the simpler, lighter pack?
I am trying to decide between two packs for a very long hike (roughly 2,200 miles). One is 5 lbs, but is very durable, uses recycled materials, and has a very good support frame. The other is only 2 lbs and is made of the fancy Dyneema stuff, which is highly water resistant, but it is a simply roll top bag and has a very minimal frame.
The heavier pack also comes with a lifetime warranty from Osprey. The Dyneema pack only has a 1 year warranty.
I could also make do with a cheap 60L pack I got on sale which I already have, but I'm not sure it's up to the task.
    I can't choose.

I used your video as a guide to buy the Gneik. Very happy with it, but what's the thing with the inside zipper above the mesh?. Why is it there and what does it do? Also I sort of miss a few side pockets and one extra zipper to open the main compartment? why not put a left and right zipper there?. But anyway, great video and a fantastic backpack.

@@stigandrhrovitnirlgreid716 I am not sure if it is big enough for 7+ days. Depends on food and what time of year you go. But it is very spacious and super comfortable. I use a Maxpedition skinny pouch in one of the side pockets to keep small items handy.

@@noorderling Not going to carry that much food anyway..that is what fishing is for:) But nice to hear that it is super comfortable, because that can become a real issue on a longer trip. Also that the pack is durable...the Gneik pack looking good so far:)

viewing the land from the air thanks to your drone was very interesting.....strangely I got the impression from the mounds as though they were breasts even with nipples...as though part of the purpose of these were to give fertility to the land...perhaps this thought was also triggered by your commenting about the Viking chieftains needing to provide for their people during lean times....just my thought on this
