I have a suggestion! With the rbg sliders, as a colorblind person that makes it vert difficult to tell what im working with. Having numbers on the scale or something will at least allow me to cross reference colors online.
On the note of the sliders, I would also like to ask if it was possible to copy or pre-save ones favourite colours to easily select them on other colourable features of the character, or if you plan to have presets in general :)
As someone who isn’t colorblind, it would also be nice to have a general color block reference somewhere next to the sliders so you can clearly see the color you’re choosing. The character is quite small, so it’s a bit hard to see the actual color you’re selecting, especially on smaller parts like the hair. Color presets would be cool too. :)
Classes could have special dialog interactions to kind "justify" choices, like the Trickster could have extra thought insigths mid conversations like "her eyes seem twitchy, I think she is lying to me! I should not help her" which could cause players to immerse in role playing the specific classes
Just a game design tip: your character seems to walk/run at 45º, when you press "W" and "A" at 8:52 for example. Since your map is not angled like that, the character may feel like they're sliding through your map. You may try adjusting the Y speed down to match your map's perspective angle. I'm loving all the small details about your game, you're doing fabulous!
One thing with the skin tones is that as they get darker, they get rlly desaturated/“ashy”. Those skin tones do exist Ofc but with no warmer options especially in the mid tone area, personally I would struggle and I know this was a massive sims 4 complaint for years Very happy to see the braids there, all your hair styles are so so pretty
Having some presets for the colors in additions to the RGB sliders might not be a bad idea. If I want my characters hair to be blonde I don't need 3 sliders for that. One button press would be user friendly. Some standard hair colors will do I think.
Maybe having a collection of defaults/presets (that just set the relevant RGB) and then the option to go into RGB detail? Could also be interesting world building if there are colours that are default there that aren't for us
Same for skin colors. I would love presets *and* RGB sliders. This will help players fine-tune their skin color and allow for more creativity, like maybe I want to imagine that I'm a drow (blue tones), a fairy (pink maybe?), dryad (green), etc
@@wednes3dayan advanced toggle could display the rgb slider and maybe hex codes (not sure what they’re called but you would be able to adjust the slider and be able to see/potentially directly edit and copy hex codes)
Your work continues to be totally gorgeous! I don't know if this would appeal to you, but I'd really love portrait feature for a close up of your characters face since the model is quite small.
@@FugaceFugite Yeah, was thinking something similar. You already have the portrait cards to select the body type at the top of the menu. Would be nice if hairstyles, colors and clothing would be added/canged on them as you go.
This continues to look better and better! My one suggestion with character creation: if you add in facial hair, which I always enjoy, make sure to allow glasses and facial hair to both go on the character. It’s a really specific gripe I have with a lot of games, but I’m a guy with a beard and glasses, and a lot of times I can’t give my character both at the same time, and have to pick one or the other. With that said, I think facial hair would be a great addition, if it’s not too much trouble!
Maybe the aristocrat icon can be an ornate chest with jewels or sort of a family crest? It gives more sophisticated vibes, i think. But this is just nitpicking. Everything looks magical and clean. I'm very exited about character customization!! Looking forward to new updates!
I thought of a crest too, because a tiara would be "too much", I think. At least for a simple aristocrat. The treasure reminds me of robbers, treasure hunters or adventurers.
This devlog is a masterclass for anyone who wants to learn game dev, game art, video production and story telling. I am sooo hyped for Crimson Hollow. And Courtney, your creativity is so inspiring for me that I started my own open-world cozy game. I wish you all the best for the release of your game! ❣
your progress is coming along so well!! the backstory addition is so charming and adds an extra level of depth to the customization and possible future replayability to the game! looking forward to seeing more of your development, keep up the amazing work!
Gosh, this is going to be so good! My suggestion would be to make the character creation camera a little closer to the character model so that we can see the changes made to the clothing, hair etc. Great job so far!
I think it’d be really cool, since there was a piano in the video, if we could play it in the game! It could be cool mini game where you can choose set songs (maybe you could host a competition to make them?) where you have to click certain buttons to play the write notes? Or it could just be cool to have a music skill and maybe the bard role?
I get more excited for your game every time you share an update! I'm over the moon about the RPG elements you're including, especially the backgrounds and how they can affect gameplay/dialogue. Such a great way to incorporate the feel of a tabletop game! ♥
Suggestions: When customizing the body, esp the hair/face, can the character be zoomed? When consuming art, part of the joy is seeing the details. It would also be nice if the skin color of the "body type" selection changes along with the 3D model as we switch through colors. I almost didn't notice the colors changing because I'm expecting the bigger illustrations to change.
I’ve gotten into DxD for the first time a few weeks ago, and now I’m obsessed! I’m looking forward to your game and I love how you have a lot of similar elements that makes it RP friendly 🤩
It's fantastic how you entered RUclips immediately with two feet! I hope that after the release of the game you will make a video of how it turned out for you.
My favourite part of these games is the character creation and I feel like we always have to wait so long to see it! I loved seeing your process and progress for your game today!
This looks gorgeous!! Right up my alley! 😍 It's incredible to see the passion and thought that goes into a game like this. I hope it'll come to Switch someday!
As an avid tabletop RPG player I love your backstory integration, that it will actually impact the game! Amazing. I'm less fussed about character customisation and agree with another commenter than some kind of preset options would be good to get in quick - sometimes too much choice is just as bad as not enough
I just discovered this gorgeous game while clicking from video to video, and I'm so glad I stayed a little bit longer. I will definitely keep my eye on this one
Definitely needs more in-depth settings things for graphics, audio, controls, ui, etc. Individual sliders for specific things will be important, especially for the multiple different forms of audio like background, music, speech/talking/text noise, and sfx. Also Borderless Windowed mode is like a requirement.
It would be great to see brightness control as well in the colour selection menu. At the moment, with your lovely muted design as a backdrop, the intense hair or clothes colours stand out a lot. Saturation can probably be set to match the game's overall tone, but brightness should probably be more dynamic, since a set level may not work well with all skin tones (especially the lightest and the darkest). Other than that... I'm in awe as always, and can't wait for the release
Omg as an artist and gamer (I love cozy games) I can say that this a huge need. The fact that u are doing everything on your own and taking the time to animate, draw and holy fuck making a game it's amazing! I would love to see your progress and it's already on my wish list!

I just can't wait that's all and to me I just think having ur option of dialogue choices to in a way draw your own life line but seriously nothing to say it all looks so perfect ❤
Huge fan of your process and the considerations youve taken so far towards character development and stories. You definitely have played dnd before at some point 🥰
I love everything about your Game so far, it has everything I love in RPGs ... the fact that you added Dice rolls makes me even more excited about Crimson Hollow. Thank you for showing your progress, i haven't been so invested in a game in a long time ! This is amazing work, doens't matter how long it takes, I'll be here to play your game when it comes out.
Your work is awesome!!! Maybe you could zoom in more during the character customization part, so we can see more of the character and a bit less of the UI. 😄
My god everything looks spectacular. The only improvement that comes into my mind is zooming in the avatar during the character creation section. Player does not need to actively zoom in and out rather even by making the character sprite bigger in the creation would work perfectly ♡♡♡
Glad to see a new upload, I frequently check up on the current state of C.H… This is truly a lot of work for one person…remember not to get frustrated & it’s ok to take breaks when feeling stuck, returning rested/refreshed is better than forcing art. Best wishes, it looks great so keep it up! 😌
I recommend adding a slider to zoom in or out in the character customization screen as I had difficulty seing the character, but as a programmer, the graphics and spot on!
I love some of the hair options you showed! I feel like game don’t usually have a lot of variety in long hair options but you had so many tweaks and features
I love to hear about your collaboration with 3rd party aspects of the game design in order to achieve your goal, I'm not sure about others but diving into how you found you wanted someone else to model your character, shaders etc. These are your methods to achieving your goal and that's so interesting!
Maybe you’ve spotted already but I noticed when you inspected the letter when demoing interactable objects that you had a typo at the end, “You loving friend”. This vid was great!
I would love a greenhouse or plants for indoor and outdoor like the wilds took over. It’s my favourite asthetic. I’m so excited for your game though, it’s really cool to see your progress and will definitely buy the game when it comes out! Already looks cool and awesome!
I'm very excited for your game, it's coming along beautifully. I love everything about it, specially the aesthetic. It's definetly a looker and your design background really shows through.
It's so interesting to see your design progress as someone with the same goal: Building my game from scratch. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. 😊 Crimson Hollow looks good so far. Can't wait to see more and one day to play it.
The character customization is amazing to see. I’m so thrilled to see this update, I know making the update itself if even a lot of work when you have invested so much time into the game too. It brings me joy to watch these, and this game is something I look forward to so much. I’m not usually a big patient person, but knowing how every detail takes time, I’ve actually appreciated and somewhat taken pleasure in watching the game grow the past almost a year right?? You’ve made the journey to the game fun, and I know that the longer it takes, the more love will be put into it. I can’t wait to see what improvements and ideas this year will bring :)
Wow! Absolutely stunning as always, your devlog are some of the videos I look forward to most on RUclips nowadays! Something I noticed and you might want to think about was when I saw your character running diagonally inside a building. When the player presses the up and left buttons, the character will run diagonally to the top left at what looked like a 45 degree angle, but with an orthogonal game world, the angle of your world in that direction is closer to 35 degrees. Which means that the player doesn’t run parallel to the walls, but is actually running slightly towards the walls. For example, if you had a long hallway in one of the diagonal directions, for the player to run through it they would have to alternate between pressing up+left and only left otherwise they’d hit the wall. This ‘staircase type movement’ required tends, in my experience, to make the player feel disconnected from the world, like the player and the world are two different things. You’d have to play around with it, but the easiest fix seems to have the diagonal directions move the character in a 35 degree direction to match the environment instead of the current 45. Kinda long winded, but hopefully helpful for you to think about! Love the game, can’t wait to play! Keep up the fantastic work :)
I have a suggestion! With the rbg sliders, as a colorblind person that makes it vert difficult to tell what im working with. Having numbers on the scale or something will at least allow me to cross reference colors online.

Color presets would be cool too. :)
@@HelyaRavnMaybe have a text box where you could type in the hex code directly?
There are solutions for colorblind modes built into the engine that would adjust all the colors in real time for you
If you use RGB input fields, players can also look up color codes instead of having to play around with the sliders to find the color they want.
Classes could have special dialog interactions to kind "justify" choices, like the Trickster could have extra thought insigths mid conversations like "her eyes seem twitchy, I think she is lying to me! I should not help her" which could cause players to immerse in role playing the specific classes
