She wanted to do a live version of you're the one that I want with Olivia Newton John and during the rehearsal Olivia cancelled the song because Geri was singing in the wrong key and seemed under the influence of something. Geri supposedly vomited on stage then Olivia stormed off stage in disgust.
Hi Georgina and everyone who’s watching this for the first time.
I would like to clarify that I was lucky to attempt that night and watch Geri live. This would have been her first solo performance in years alone so she clearly was very nervous.
When she came on stage her radio mic wasn’t working and she couldn’t hear the click to be in tune with the music because the sound was very loud. That’s why she was with her hands behind a lot trying to adjust the volume or turning the radio mic off. You can see that at one point she removes her music ear plugs.
She wasn’t amazing but it wasn’t that bad as it sounds.

Hmmmm. Most singers know the key of their own song. These don’t tend to fluctuate from show to show. I think the problem here was that the auto tune either wasn’t working or she was so out of tune even the miracle of auto tune couldn’t get it right. I’ve honestly heard better karaoke on a Sunday afternoon in the pub.
To be fair it was SO loud. The place was RAMMED. I was also there
I attended this show too and at one point Geri vomited onto the stage. Her sound system seemed poor and the mix was bad. I think she was nervous then barfed everywhere behind the guitarist lol
I felt very uncomfortable with this performance, Georgina's face of confusion was priceless lol

She keeps messing with her microphone pack behind her, you can tell the sound and inner ears are malfunctioning poor geri. She kept going despite the technical issues which is very professional ❤❤
Depending on the event, it is also professional to stop the song and explain that there is technical difficulties, then try to correct to problem. I'm sure everyone in the audience would have unsterstand. It is better to start the song again than sing the whole thing out of tune.

Geri is Geri no matter what. She could even go on stage and burp on the mic, I would love her anyway.
Exactly she just had IT and IT didn't need to be amazing live vox and fantastic dancing skills. It's a shame many feel those are the only vital ingredients to being a great popstar.

Her hand is behind her back because the sound tech had turned her in ear monitors down so low she couldnt hear... they also didnt expect the roar of the crowd to be so loud... felt sorry for her :(

I don't listen to her that much but "Look At Me" is one of my favorite songs of all time (just not this version). I don't know why I like it but I dare not question it. I think she had tuning issues for the most part and looks like she was trying to figure it all out but unfortunately she didn't. At least she didn't give up.
I will always love Geri. She was my teenage idol. I've never cared about her live voice as she sounds great on record.
Her live vocal has always sounded so vulnerable and try-hard that it made me love it, and her, even more.
She couldn't clearly hear herself and got anxious! ♥ Anyway we know she's not the greatest singer, but her feistiness as u mentioned and her charisma, her CLEVERNESS, her mottos of life, her evolutions and her voice, that hasn't tecnique but has a UNIQUE AUTHENTICITY (cause she writes such good songs!) makes me love her the most.

Geri has been my fave spice girl since day one. I especially enjoyed all three of her solo albums, most especially SIYWGF. Even if she was not the most talented vocally she sure made up in ambition and drive! A lot of people forget she was the most successful female UK artist at one point in time (early to mid 2000's) And I think she held that title for 10 years? So good on you Geri!

She was never the most successful uk female artist ahaha. She had luck for a couple of songs and then flopped and flopped again. Her first album didn't sell much, it did so and so and the others were even bigger disasters. She had like 4 or 5 local hits but you fantasize as if she had hits and albums like Britney or Madonna ahaha. She wasn't even the most successful spice girl, Mel C was the most successful spice girl. Mel C sold more albums and hits in the uk and europe than every other spice girl
@@ashleydavidson8366 Melanie C doesn't know what a hit means since 2000, apart of First Day of my life that was a hit because it was soundtrack of some Soap Opera. After that, she didn't have even a #100 in UK. Don't try to make her a big solo artist, specially when her first album sold more than Geri, but it was released 2 times.
Yet despite all that, her solo tour was cancelled due to poor tickets sales. I was gutted as I had front row tickets right in the middle- only about 25% of the tickets for that venue had sold. It’s a real shame as it was already a scaled-down theatre tour. She must have been devastated.

Love Geri. Schizo-phonic was one of my fave 90s pop albums. Her limited voice never bothered me and still doesnt. Girl made some great pop.

Dear coach...I LOVE GERI SHE IS AN ICON. She can just stand there smiling & that's all I need. Actually I love her voice when she speaks to the audience at the Spice Girls tours...she has a lot of control of her voice & speaks calm...deep voice. She has so much presence but I think she is insecure about her voice. Let's be fair, I truly believe she had some issues she was not listening her voice, that's why she had her hand at her back. I really love Geri, she is the Spice Girls spirit. Even I am 100% #teamsporty, I truly love each one. They all together: magic.

She has recorded some really great vocals in the Spice Girls albums tho 👌🏼 specially in the first album Spice. Mel B and Geri used to sound amazing in their early 20’s/debut vocals.
Love the Spices specially Melanie C, but Geri is such an icon. It’s a shame that she wasn’t comfortable in this particular performance. She was in Australia and it was her comeback after years off music

I actually have her first album schizophonic and it's pretty much the same apart from a very few tracks were okay!! Geri's just not a great vocalist at the end of the day. Vocally she really struggled without the other girls, especially in the early days (her vocals on the verses in her early single 'Lift Me Up' really show this). But she brought many other qualities to the band - such as drive and charisma - and you can't take that away from her.
And she did a lot of the writing

Late watching this it’s just shown up in my recommendations for some reason!?! The reason why she’s got her hand round her back a lot is probably because her inner ear pack wasn’t working and she was trying to make sure it hadn’t unplugged. She’s not the first singer to do that when they’re having sound problems and she won’t be the last. The hand gesturing was telling the technician to turn it up. And when that didn’t work and she still couldn’t hear herself she took them out because they’re uncomfortable too wear as it is! If it’s not working there’s no point in keeping them in. That’s the most likely explanation for what she was doing with her hand round her back. But as you pointed out the whole sound was off. So either they didn’t do a sound check or they did and something happened where everyone’s inner ears wasn’t working and none of them could hear themselves which means they would have been playing blind (not literally, it’s a figure of speech!) and also explains why they’re not in sync playing and singing.

Poor girl. She is nightmarishly flat, which is such a shame because the recording is fantastic; especially the way the harmonies work in the progression of the chorus on the studio mix. It is like a car chase scene through a Pride parade in a Bond movie, and I cannot mean that in a more complementary way. But damn, those harmonies should be tight and she clearly can't hear herself. I bet it was too heavy on the drums in her in-ear mix, when it should have been keys and backup singers so she could keep track of her tone. Ultra bummer that the backups held off so she could find her footing, because that's honestly what makes the song so cool in my heart.

I really think you need to look at a more recent video of her performing- she’s FAR better than she used to be, really put a lot into improving her voice and it showed in the last Spice Girls tour of the UK.

But she mimed a lot during the 2019 Spiceworld Tour and she was so wooden. I wouldn’t expect her to be the same energetic woman we all fell in love with in the 90s but she looked so bored at times. I went to 2 of the concerts in 2019 and felt the same both times. Luckily I saw them in 1998 when they truly were at their peak, and then again in 2007. Out of all of them, she’s changed the most and not necessarily for the better. The others still know how to have fun.
What I enjoyed about this performance was that she didn’t care.
We all know Geri was a perfectionist to her detriment.
She was never an amazing vocalist.
But she defo took her career seriously.
So to see this not being polished shows she’s in a better headspace and is just having fun.
last i remember geri was a judge on a talent show here in Australia years ago and she released a new song and performed it live, the entire thing was so bad it made headlines all over Australia. the song was cringy and it went downhill quick

Her arm is behind her back because she's trying to put her mic volume up on her mic box. She then try to make signs to the sound engineer on the left of the stage that she needs to hear herself better.
Her box was converting the vocal to a digital signal to make her voice sound better

Geri is the absolute perfect example of someone being in the right place at the right time. She was amazing in the Spice Girls but she really cannot sing to save herself and can’t even dance. Still my favourite Spice Girl though 😂

Geri is the embodiment of why girl bands exist in my opinion: vocally she is not terrible but she very much needs the support of others and when they were together the Spice Girls created some of the most lovely harmonies I've ever heard. They and the Sugababes are real shining stars in this regard. However, Geri did have an ear for catchy music, style and outlandish outfirts, shrewd decisions etc. and those things are all equally as important to being successful artist.
If you listen to her solo music, particularly her first and third (?) album 'Passion' and compare that with the Spice Girls' third album, and only one without her, you can see how much input she clearly had on the overall sound of their album.
Unfortunately, I feel, based on the all the material from the recent SG tour I saw, she has lost some of that Charisma too - she was very dry on that tour and seemed to leach some of the Posh - dowdy/silent persona too.
Her solo stuff will make you your ears bleed, it's awful. The reason why there was a similarity between some of the songs to the spice girls' is because there were the same producers. The album that they had as a four piece was produced by other people. That is why
She hired the same producer of the first two spice girls album, that is why. For the third album the group changed producer. For the record her solo stuff is very dreadful and the third album wasn't that better either

Her nerves and sound problems aside, I think there is another reason she doesn't sound right singing Look At Me anymore. She recorded it when she had a more gravelly voice which had a lot more depth and character. She used that voice to great effect in this song. Since then she had surgery to remove nodules, and although this gave her voice more clarity, it really did strip away some of the character.
The sound in Heaven is dreadful too.
Some sound issues for sure. She probably was trying to fix something on her mic receiver behind (that's why her hand was there). She also gave couple of signs and look to the crew, as well as tool her earphone out at the end.

True. Check out Jojo singing Too Little Too Late in Jay Leno she got off key and made those gestures and angry looks at the sound engineer
She sang every song awfully that night. It wasn’t the mic or volume. She can’t sing or dance, the spice girls fans know it. She was the one who talked in interviews
Geri is quite possibly the weakest Spice Girl when it comes to vocals, but she's pretty much the main reason why they got as big as they were, and still are. She was the mastermind behind their sound, their image, their narrative, their story, she came up with the ideas for most of their songs, and had such a strong presence and charisma. So Geri might not be the strongest singer, but she is one hell of a showbusiness woman. #GirlPower

Huh..what an exaggeration, always hyping the girl more than she deserves. Their first song that everybody liked and still is their famous hit is Wannabe and guess who wrote most of it? MEL B But she doesn't get all this praise, uhm. The mastermind behind their sound was the producers, the lyrics were written by all the girls and the producers said it. I've just read on their wiki page that the producers said that Mel C and Emma were very active in the songwriting. The image of the group was about 5 different girls with different images and they all came up with their own personal image. I've never seen charisma or strong presence in her but I see lots of charisma in the other girls. She was the one that spoke in the interviews and had some ideas, that is true

And this is why she didnt sing as many verses as the other girls in alot of songs. Geri brought the girl power themes and the spice girls vibe. She was the vocal one not the singer in the group. She was the PR for the girls, and prob one their lead song writers . So she deserves credit for that.. but God love her . She lucky her voice could be tweeked in studio . And that she had a decent debut album to her credit . her singles reached No 1 status I'm sure 4 times, so she has that over some of her spice buddies, esp Emma and Victoria and Mel B. But Mel C and Geri are prob the most sucessful from a solo artist criteria, however from the start , Geri hungered and wanted fame and she wanted fortune ,which she has achieved in probably one of the biggest girl bands in history so she should be very happy. Despite what anyone says. She a original member and she no replacement spice either. She should concentrate on presenting and song writing. But she is a huge icon.

She had sound issues, couldnt hear herself at all and lets also not forget this was a mobile phone recording so it doesnt sound great anyway. One thing we cant forget, she did GAY there, a nightclub and she actually brought a band, background singers and sang live. Many people dont. She could have just mimed and no one would have minded but she didnt. When you are in a nightclub, things can go wrong, its not as professional as a live concert or studio tv performance and ive seen bigger vocalists mime their way through a GAY performance and the audience didnt care. Obviously she intended things differently and has proven before she can do much better. She paid money to have it live and in this case it didnt pay off.
