  • Minnie Driver is coming to BUILD to talk about her role as Maya DiMeo in the new ABC show, “Speechless.” Driver plays the mother of a special-needs kid, JJ (Micah Fowler), and wants to make sure that her son has a normal life despite his use of a wheelchair and lack of speech due to cerebral palsy.     as a multiply disabled woman, who is also in a power wheelchair & legally blind, Minnie you are awesome, Thanks for realizeing that we are human being s, also have you guys seen power wheelchair hockey?
    we have it in Toronto Canada.

    I love the show very much I miss it very much and I hope it comes back because I have a disability called spinel bifida and I use a wheelchair because of it and it makes me feel better about myself and others

    As someone with a disability wanting to work in film/tv, I think Minnie means well but it really doesn’t bother me when an able bodied person plays disabled. We’re not represented/portrayed enough for us to have choices. Beggars can’t be choosers. When disability becomes more the norm, and people are more used to seeing us, then we can be picky and say ‘let’s get a disabled actor’. Furthermore, I think there’s a lot to be learned from an able bodied actor playing disabled. The able bodied actor can learn and educate others in a way the disabled actor can’t.

    Love Minnie, LOVE the show... but this interviewer sucks. She didn't even know Micah's name.
