Nile talks about lab safety (Chemistry is Dangerous): • Chemistry is dangerous. - Наука
Nigel 5 years ago: I didn't want to use methanol because it is slightly toxic
Nigel today: This is extremely lethal in the milligram range....let's taste it
nigel be like lemme grab some of this uranium
@@danebaltz2908 Pretty sure he has some ore samples that he showed. Cody taught everyone that it's better to not do anything with the ore on youtube though.
IPA is slightly toxic too.
@@BrianG61UK Maybe in the amounts he used it. A normal person's everyday use of it is probably fine tho
@@BrianG61UK So is ethanol in a high enough quantity
The way he threw those containers shows the latent chaos in him waiting to be unleashed over the next few years.
Acrouzet? On a NileRed video? Wow!
Acrozet, finding you out there time to time!
acrouzet!
What makes his brand of chaos so chaotic and funny is that most of the time he’s pretty clean cut and normal, then decides to play with radioactive rocks or piranha solution😂 a true scientist.
@@anonimenkolbas1305how do you both know who this guy is?
Everytime Nigel says 'carefully' I automatically expect something flying and breaking.

@@givesub No.
This truly has the vibe of a science teacher trying to teach chemistry during lockdown
After hitting the ol' solvent grade ethanol
I like this guy. I hope he gets popular in the future.
wdym he already is popular
@user-ue3sr5rc6d I haven't heard of him? Isn't he new on RUclips?
@user-ue3sr5rc6d how did you miss the joke entirely
He might. Seems like he might attract a lot of follow eventually.
@@df20001he has millions on his original channel
I just love how Nile says "carefully" and continues to absolutely don't give it a thought.
It occurs to me this wasn't a result of fame. It's just him.
I am in a research lab for the first time this semester and got told about ours, it's terrifying to me. My professor, while cheerfully rifling through our glassware in it told me that: Fun fact, eyes are basic and so getting this in your eye (by having it on your gloves and touching them, for example) will not hurt, but it will start dissolving it. I was mildly nervous the entire time since he was just wearing gloves and sticking like 3/4 of them inside, so he then told me that his mentor used to use his bare hands which he would definitely not do. We also do have heavy duty gloves for our base bath stored right above it.
Great for cleaning glassware, though.
Well the thing is is that it's especially bad to eyes and mucosa, but on your skin it's not that bad, if you rinse it under 5 seconds you will probably not even get a scar; when I got saturated NaOH solution (so pH around 13.5) on the skin it just started burning after a few seconds and then I rinsed it and no visible damage was left afterwards
still terrifying to me thanks.
That's why I prefer use acid baths instead.
Definitely hasn’t changed with the throwing of items but saying not using methanol because it’s toxic and then in the future smelling cyanide, that definitely changed
i have hopes that you have and will post more random ancient videos like this
this is even older than the NileBlue announcement
"be careful and don't put your hand in it"
next frame: fully wetted glove
The fact that he literally didn't change a bit
Yes?
If you have any other old videos, you should post them. I love seeing how your filming and lab has changed over the years
fun fact, this Guy doesn't age, actually discovered an elixir of life 400 years ago
He's not just a chemit, but an alchemist too
he's also impervious to acid.
I think he get it from Brian Cox who is a 55 Yo
@@vikivillix?
@@bigstinkyyyyy2388 what?
I love how he’s always been throwing the gloves even back then XD
Him stirring the containers with the giant spoon after mixing the liquids genuinely just looks like a child making potions
“Hey man can I get a taste of that base bath?” “Only a spoonful”
Huh, the past is cleaner than I thought it'd be.
Its in his laboratory, thus in times he already had good camera and stuff like that
One possible explanation is he recorded this in a university lab, but it looks far too clean for that. Plus he's not starting every sentence with "Anyway" and talking in the academic paper style; "Just gotta drop it in" vs "A boiling flask was added to the solvent mixture".
Tipsy bartender vibes are strong with this one.
That adorable baby Nile smile when he got the measurement perfect first try 🥰
Nile was so serious back in the day, but definitely hasn’t changed on the throwing everything around
Honestly I like this filming style as well, reminds me of my chaotic biochem lectures 😂
man, are we ever starved for NileRed content. I was riveted this whole video, and that's super telling 😂
1:06 "Roughly 600 grams"
**Uses whole 2kg**
Wouldn't be a NileRed video otherwise
I thought this was for like a class project demonstrating bad lab safety
I love how your workplace is always so organised and clean, yet how you throw stuff around like you got an army of cleaning (wo)men behind the camera.
Don't let him fool you. This is a recent video. I'm guessing that he just find up how to become younger.
Yeah, he's still in the nice lab, though I guess it's been quite a few years since he moved in there and stopped making chemistry videos.
I think he uses base bath to exfoliate away the old skin revealing the baby smooth Nile underneath. If you search the Internet long enough, you might find photos of when he started out in the 1880's. But maybe the gold grills were to hide vampire fangs. It is always the adorably cute ones you least suspect that you have to watch out for.
"it's basically done" nice one
Base baths are quite useful, we usually use KOH and make it really concentrated up to the point where the iPrOH and Water (with KOH) no longer mix and form seperate layers. We then carefully add water until they mix again, that results in a really strong base bath. Just make sure to not leave your glassware in there for too long (we prefer at most 1-2 days, never over weekends) since that strong bases can attack the glassware and weaken it.
for really resiliant residues we cook the glassware with aqua regia or piranha solution :D
it's nice that you can just upload old vids for us
Bro I am addicted. I know videos take a long time to finish, but we need more content on nilered and nileblue
Can't believe he took a bath in this stuff. Classic
Hi. If you were to put a straw into the container and keep the straw clear until it is turned upside down, it helps relieve the pressure from the water, or alcohol in this case, from the bottle
It's archival footage like this that really underlines Nigel's gainz in the pectoral region.
I did not know what he was making till the end (did not understand when he told at start), but still watched it just looking at his highly scientific process
instructions unclear, i synthesized an electrtic bass from bathwater
Damn that's the coolest witches brew I've seen him make yet!
Keep them comming! Love the content 👍.
good to see younger Nile
We use something called " bicromic mixture ". It is basically saturated aqueous solution of potassium bicromate and 98% H2SO4. It's the best glassware cleaner ever.
Can u try to make Roman concrete? It’s like limestone and sea water and concrete I think. Be cool to see the self repair properties! Even though it repairs really slow.
“Just be careful and don’t put your hand in it”
*cuts to the next frame of his hand completely wet from being put in it*
Man, that was great. This guy should be a chemist.
Gonna use this to clean my bongs. Thanks Nigel
Nile Red becomes Tipsy Bartender!!!
Bro….i love you man ❤
Nice powerpoint transistions 👍
Thanks imma try this for my bong !
4:48 be careful nd dont't put your hand in it
cut to the wettest glove ever
I know cooking is chemistry, but this one gave me just cooking video vibes
My dude was born destructive 😂😂
Thanks for the Content
My guy really pulled something straight out of the anales of history
Throwback to the background shot of that chemical that changes color based on the solvent
Gonna use this for my bong
like what
I love the more instructional videos
Great video 👍
Old Nile: "I didn't want to methanol because its quite lethal."
Present Nile: *has an entire fucking radioactive cabinet in his lab.*
wouldve loved to see a more visual demonstration of how effective and or dangerous it is
I shall now clean my bong
Awwww. So cute....a baby NileRed
Nigel: “It’s BASICally done.” 😂
Is etching of the glass a concern with base baths? I was specifically instructed to only use soap, water and mechanical cleaning methods but as Nigel said, some stubborn organic residues barely losen up that way which is really annoying because it requires a bunch of labour to get that glassware clean again.
so long you don't heat it up too much or leave it in for days on end there isn't really any concern.
Etching would not really be a concern over reasonable amounts of time. We used to use this solution when doing single molecule fluorescence imaging, as many organic residues would cause a high background. When that didn’t work, we would use “piranha” solution, which was scary stuff (boiling hot sulfuric acid/hydrogen peroxide).
Sodium hydroxide does attack glass on a small scale. In room temperature there's not any problems, for like a day or 2. It is when the glass is in contact with NaOH for longer periods of time OR when the NaOH solution is boiling! Really hot NaOH does quick damage to glass.
The actual cinetic of the glass etching process using NaOH is very low, meaning it takes quite some days at room temperature, but it can be sped up if you heat the bath, which is actually used when you want to get rid of a small portion of the inside glass, for unreachable stuff, that won't dissolve in anything
Probably should avoid putting glass in an ultra sonic cleaner for repeated 15min runs with dawn, vinegar, simple green and tap water. FYI.
Loving the more random content on this channel
I forgot what the video was about that cool spoon was awesome 👀
I can see those MOED solutions in the background
The @TipsyBartender takes a A leave of absence.
NileRed:
New tipsy bartender video is kinda fire ngl
What a nice guy, i hope he will never smells cyanide in the future.
he looks like he would keep hotdogs in his pockets.
*grabs comically large spoon*
This video is giving nile blue vibes
Neutral chaotic… I love HIM
My guy went from making a simple base bath to making a grape juice from plastic
Fun stuff man. Man I feel old.
Nigel: _throws stuff and slams stuff down_
Yep, that's the charm of his channels...
Thats one hell of a spoon
Thanks will use to clean this darn bong 😅
this video had such an empty depressed vibe to it
I kept waiting for something to get chaotic or be thrown, and finally he threw the gloves
This is the worst cocktail I've ever had, 0/10 would not drink again.
If you drank this, I am pretty sure you would be buried partially mixed with the sponges they used to clean you off the floor. 😂
So, you agree, this makes a terrible cocktail!
Distilled water is generally better for cleaning because the solution to polution is dilution :)
Baby Nigel! 👶🔴
Crazy, i wasn't married when he made this.
it’s kinda like muppet babies, only nilered. i’m putting safety third muppet babies on my vision board rn.
3:58 “It’s basically done” 😂
you looked so young and pure
Man was rocking that El haircut lol
The title was misleading. This video is not from ancient times. Nigel owes me 5 minutes.
I wish you would have posted this 5 years ago when I made some rose oil. to this day I have not been able to get the organic matter out of my best 1000ml boiling flask
how long do you usually soak glassware?
Now make a bass bath!
Maybe add some drum in the solution
i don't even know what I just watched but it's nile so its entertaining nonetheless
base bath smell is how I wake up in the morning
I wrote about him in my final portfolio for my English class
Bong is gunna be so fuckin clean
The ultimate ice bucket challenge.
The way he looks older when he was younger-
i swear he’s about to punch me in the nose
Does this stuff work as a bong cleaner?
This is like watching the Joker before the acid bath
