Oh no, I'm just getting my Mr Heater 50K installed, hope I don't have the same issues. Keeping my fingers crossed. Looks like Menards is your go to Home Improvement Store just like mine. Only 5 miles for me!
Hi cackerson10! Hopefully yours will be fine. I believe I have found the problem - bent fan blades! I checked the old fan blade an sure enough, one of the blades is bent about 1/4". I'm going to try again to fix the problem, wish me luck!
Give us an update on this as soon as you figure it out please! These are a lot cheaper than the Modine units, but if it's going to shake itself apart It's not worth the money!
I hope so as well! This is a pretty mild winter so-far, but I'll be working out there all winter putting up the walls and setting-up shop so I would really like heat (silent heat).
BTW.... I have been using my 50K unit for about 3 months now in a low dust atmosphere without a problem. Time will tell if the blower starts to cause vibration. I'll keep you posted.
Mine seemed fine the first winter as well. It didn't go out gradually as you would expect, it went from quiet to very loud right away. Something broke inside, and I suspect it's from excessive vibration. 😩 Good luck with your unit, maybe you got a good one 😊
That's true! I need to contact Mr Heater and see if they want me to try to fix the problem, or if they want to try sending me a new fan blade. It will be interesting - I would hate to have to replace the entire heater!
I think things were just made beefier back in the day! I think the problem with mine is just a flimsy fan blade that got one of the fins bent at some time.
I haven't looked at the other comments but obviously (to me) you have an unbalanced fan. Like you pointed out... You seem well-rounded mechanically so I would do one of two things remove that fan and see if it's bent and check it for balance, if a balance problem, you can get weights that clip on, search for 'fan balance clips' The easier (faster?) step, you still have your old fan place that one back on the unit and see what happens. I have a MR 80,000 that is giving me a 'small' vibration / hum that wasn't there when 1st installed (heat cycles loosed things up?). My vibration is more heard/noted when the Inducer motor is on. I took panels off and found many loose screws holding panels in place including 1 out of 3 for the Inducer motor. Well tightening the screws really didn't help. If it gets on my nerves enough, I was thinking of doubling up on the Inducer motor gasket. What doesn't help much (or maybe it would be worse), I'm not ridged mounted like you are, I used uni-strut and 4ea 3/8 all thread.
Thanks Steve! Actually, a big part of my old job was reducing vibration on mega yachts - mostly by designing mass loaded cabinetry, adding Regufoam mounting systems, etc. (I'll be showing that in future videos as I outfit the wood shop). Yes, I found the deformation in the old blade, and made a video on that (a short scheduled for 6:00 today). It is a single blade that is 1/4" out of alignment. I'm going to try to fix the blade, but also have Mr Heater replace the blade - so between the three (this is already a replacement) I should wind-up with at least one that one that does not vibrate like crazy! 🥴 Wish me luck, and watch for updates 😊
Mine came with a really bent fan right out of the box. Their customer service is fantastic and is the reason I replaced my 30 year old one with the same company. Called and told them what was going on and they shipped me a new one.
I will be looking at mine today and seeing if I have any excessive vibration. Mine was installed prior to us buying the house. I can take a video and pictures of my set up, assuming I don't have vibration. If that fan is cheap aluminum, I bet it flexes itself out of shape over time. Short of finding a better quality blade, I don't know what the fix would be for that? If I get one that shows anything, can I send you a video somehow?
If you post a video, let me know and I'll link to it. I just checked the old fan blade and sure enough, one of the blades id 1/4" off from the rest! I'm guessing it is just a 'luck of the draw' thing when they are assembling these. Any rough handling can bend the blades. If a fan falls on the floor, it is likely shot. I'll show the fan blade in a short tomorrow, and I'll try again to fix the problem by fixing that original blade. It's a pain in the butt, but I believe I found the problem! 😊
I was talking with the Facility Maintenance person where I work and he told me that Modine makes these heaters and he suggested not using them in an area that gets alot of dust because the bearings in the blower motor can be affected by it. How do you know its the fan blades being out of b alance vs the b earings going bad? Did you replace the bearings?
That may be, but there was almost no dust during it's use. The shop is not finished yet, and this replacement motor has been vibrating since day one (it's brand new). I checked the old fan, and one of the blades is about 1/4" out from the rest - which is definitely going to vibrate. I'm going to pull the new fan off the unit and check it. I would be willing to bet that the new one is out of whack as well. 😑
I used to work at a shipyard that built mega yachts, and the #1 cause of failures (and noise) was excessive vibration. A lot of times it was from the prop, which is similar to this problem, but we had to deal with noise abatement on every little motor on the ship. Excessive vibration is a big problem 😑
Question for u i just replaced my old heater with this same model it functions fine but when its not running it has a low electrical humming noise my old model didnt just wondering if urs does the same or i got faulty 1
Thanks gungadins! I figured that out and put the finding in a short here: ruclips.net/user/shortsi7rHF4EDBCw I just got a replacement blade from Mr Heater today, but the set screw on the unit is stripped. I did fix the problem though - at least made it much better - by bending the blades on the one on the unit while it was in place. Difficult to do 12' up 😑
Hi Larry! Missed you for a few days, hope you are alright and had a Happy Christmas! Yes, it looks like the problem is with the blade itself, and hopefully they can just replace it with a new one! 😩

Oooops! Yes, Menards is my go-to big box store. Unfortunately it's 35 miles away, but so is everything else. 😐
What a shame! I hope they can fix this!
I believe I know the problem, and will give it a try myself first. Wish me luck!
Give us an update on this as soon as you figure it out please! These are a lot cheaper than the Modine units, but if it's going to shake itself apart It's not worth the money!
I'll do that. I'm going to do a short on the blade today, and post it tomorrow.
Hopefully this unit doesn't fail like the last one! Winter just started 🥶

That sucks royally! I had a Modine heater in my old garage that's been there for a good 30 years without a hitch! Can you just return the thing?

@@PlanetMojoI hope so, it's this kind of crap that you don't need, you've got plenty to do!

3 year parts Warranty. I would this they would replace the fan.
@@brucewilliams710 I am contacting them tonight, and requesting a new fan blade. Pretty frustrating, but hopefully that is the problem 😑
Man you've had your share of problems with that. Sorry my friend
Thanks Dave. Hopefully it will get solved soon, I really like working in a heated shop in the winter 😊
@@PlanetMojo i can understand that!
Vibration leads to failed wiring.
Failed wiring leads to far worse things.

That is normal... FYI OCD is a stuggle right???? It's fine. Mine sounds same and is on it's 3rd year. Good luck from Wyoming
Try putting your old fan blade on the new motor and see if that helps. Fan blades could be out of balance.

This is the reason I just spent the money on a Reznor UDXC. I hate to say it but sometimes you get what you pay for.
