    What I found interesting is when Corypheus mentions that the Golden City was already corrupted when the magisters got there. The Magisters didn't corrupt the city, someone/something else did.

    • @stevenceja4706
      @stevenceja4706 4 года назад +7

      My guess is that the black city is in fact Arlathan and the evanuris created the blight through sheer anger and hatred which manifested itself. Then they tricked the magisters into the black city and tainted them in order bring they blight into the world. Not only that but it's said that there are seven gates to the black city which may in fact be the seven old gods and once all of them are slain the evanuris will be free. I wonder if that's why solas wants to recreate the Elven world and take other measures because the evanuris will be free anyway if he doesn't.

      @@stevenceja4706 Solas strongly implies he intends to kill or otherwise contain again the Evanuris if/when he tears down The Veil. His motive for tearing down the Veil is the restoration of the Fade/mortal world as a mixed entity, with the resulting restoration of the elves to the top of the pecking order. Freeing the Evanuris is an unfortunate side effect - which he claims to have a plan for.
      Theory: the inital breaching of the Veil wasn't meant to poison the mortal world - that was a consequnce of mortals stepping into a universe of pure magic. The actual plan was probably escape for the Evanuris - but for whatever reason, when the Veil was breached they couldn't pass through.
      I do think your thoughts on the Blight itself are interesting. Perhaps it's a plague formed when hatred/spite manifest themselves on a flesh and blood creature that is in a realm of pure magic. The disease was then passed to other mortals when they crossed the threshold of the Veil into the Fade itself.
      I cannot wait for DA4, where I think we'll finally see the Evanuris as the over-arching evil/influencers.

    I spared the Architect in my first playthrough, but then one of my friends made an interesting counterpoint:
    Even if the Architect is sincere in his desire to stop the Blights, not even he can be sure that his experiments won't accidentally make things worse. On the other hand, we DO know that Blights can be stopped; the Wardens have proven that five times. They've stopped five Blights, each time in a faster time than the last (the most recent didn't even last a year), meaning not only are the Wardens good at stopping Blights, but they obviously get better at it each time, while the darkspawn seem to not learn from their defeats. Ironically, that very inability to adapt and evolve that the Architect is trying to get rid of, is what has allowed the Wardens to stop five Blights in record time.
    But with the Architect's experiments, what if in trying to solve the problem he ends up accidentally making the Darkspawn even worse and stronger than ever that the Wardens will no longer stand a chance? What if, just like Urthemiel, he ends up accidentally waking up all the remaining old gods at the same time and unleashing an ultimate Blight?
    I'm not saying the Architect is a bad guy, I think he sincerely wants to stop the Blights. It's just a shame that you can't just refuse him and spare him at the same time. Basically it's a case of going with the devil that you know--and that you know you can beat--rather than possibly creating a devil that you won't be able to stop.

      I didn't I killed him every time he may have good intentions I don't trust it. The way he does things the way he makes it seem is that he will try his best but doesn't have the power to stop it look with what happened to the mother she was freed but was driven insane what if next time it becomes worse and that insane darkspawn learns about the new ritual they might force them so they can adapt evolve and something that can breed army's of themselves is too much of a risk I would never take he deserved to die even with good intentions

    • @bindair_dundat
      @bindair_dundat 10 лет назад +5

      Didn't the Architect contact us for help at the beginning? He knew the Mother was a menace and wanted us to deal with her. All the while trying to weaken her himself. If he accidentally makes things worse in the future, he would probably contact us again. And now the Grey Wardens know that there are "special" darkspawn, so they wouldn't kill them out of habit.
      The Disciples should also be mentioned here. Although at first they seemed evil, they had good intentions. The Messenger, if set free, will be mentioned as a Hooded Figure aiding those he came by.
      Also, Oghren had a very good point (one of his rare moments :D) No matter the Blights, the majority of dwarven kingdoms are under darkspawn control. And some smaller raids on the surface occur even without an Archdemon. If there is a slight chance to make things easier, we should grab it.

      And for the most part. The Grey Wardens knew where each Old God is. As they are all sleeping and kept at random places in Thedas
      I have to say. It'll be interesting what they will do with the Blight. But still Darkspawns won't die. They will just lose a driving force. But possibly. With the smarter darkspawn. They may create a "different" call. And may end up causing a different blight with a different strategy other than "destroy everything"

      Also, I just realised that the Architect is the Legion of Dragon Age. A unique one whose race's will is not their own. He can give them free will, but cannot forsee what they will do after that. And he does it, no matter the cost.
      Legion uploaded the Reaper Code to the geth regardless of the quarians. He would have liked it to be peace between them, but he wouldn't have sacrificed his people's freedom over it.
      This also made me realise, that Bioware often makes one choice canon over the other. Like when we see everyone from Origins, regardless of our actions. So the Architect will probably be one of these. If they plan to use him or his Legacy in the future, then they will.
      Like the krogan cure. Even if you destroyed the research and let Mordin die in ME2, a random salarian scientist finds the cure in ME3 to advance the plot.
      Or the Rachni Queen. You see her even if you killed her, only slightly changed.

      I don't know who said it anymore but he said : One day after all the Old Gods are slain, The darkspawn will just pile up in the darkroads untill they overrun the Dwarves Kingdoms after then there will be a endless blight as the darkspawn has nowhere left to go
      That would be bad,, So it certainly is a worthy risk in longterm

    • @kingdedede933
      @kingdedede933 10 лет назад

      martijn kwant I would have to disagree, so much so that I kill him in every playthrough of Awakening. This is my opinion of course, but seeing it was He who released the Archdemon and the Mother onto the world, and may yet again do it again for "darkspawn freedom." Darkspawn simply finding an Old God corrupts it, causing a Blight, which makes the Architect's plan even worse as he will make them more frequent.
      Don't get me wrong, if he can stop the next Blight from ever happening, that's pretty groovy; then again, what if He fails over...and over? it's just not worth the chance...

    • @martijnkwant7737
      @martijnkwant7737 10 лет назад +2

      Andrew Esquivel I understand what you mean.. However like I said : What happens when their are no Old Gods to corrupt? They would have no purpose than to swarm around in the deep roads untill there is no space left for them down there. And they will swarm the lands.. Not in hordes like you see in blights but small skirmish groups yet numerous all over the land.
      (they even said in origin when talking to some dwarf in orzammar that they scout old thaigs every year and they see the corruption coming closer to their city with each passing year)
      ofcourse there are 7 old gods of wich 5 are killed right now.. so that means there a probally 2 left
      If they really are old gods not tainted dragons ofcourse :P
      In my opinion it was a great choice because he could be a ally amongst Thedas greatest enemy.. He failed once with the BroodMother to grand her a free will. however I never seen proof of him directly causing the Archdemon to be released? And he actually tries to lure them away from the Archdemon not towards him

    Adding to what I said earlier, while the Architect started the Fifth Blight prematurely, as the Darkspawn would have found Urthemiel eventually. If not for the Architect, we may not have been able to stand against it as we did (recall that, even with this blight started before it's time, most of Fereldan was extensively damaged).

  • @jlittlejohn97

    I have two main playthroughs than I plan on carrying over to DA:I. In the first, I killed The Architect because every single step of the way, every plan he made, got him nowhere and resulted in the deaths of many people. And I stress this, the deaths were needless. Killing him made a lot of sense for that particular character. For my other character, I couldn't do it. And it had a lot to do with The Messenger that comes to you during the fight for Amaranthine. That darkspawn only wanted to help. And, as it says in the epilogue, he continues to help people if you let him live. That was something that The Architect did. Which tells me that he and the dawkspawn he helps at least have good intentions. Good intentions can go wrong faster than anything else, but I would agree with Ashe. I want that purple option. The Architect is a twisted sense of hope, I think. For me, The Architect might be 'the other way'. Think of what 'the other way' is in DA:O - some kind of blood ritual that any person other than your crazy-ass Warden would probably say no to. The other way is often the most questionable route. For example, synthesis in Mass Effect. I won't explain it here, but I consider that to be the most questionable - I mean, you're fundamentally changing all life in the galaxy. Yet, it's my favorite and continues to be, in my mind 'the best' option.
    I found the comparison to Loghain to be interesting. They are quite similar. For me, though, the thing with Loghain is personal. The game does not allow it to be an objective decision. Even though it is clearly stated that, even with reinforcements, the king didn't think they were going to win that battle. So you never know the extent of the slaughter his abandonment caused. Regardless, he is the catalyst of the story of DA:O AND DA2. So you may not have ever become the hero had he not quite the field. Carver may have never fled the army, Hawke might have been able to stay in Ferelden. But then he tried to kill the Warden. Which also gives you Zevran. Zevran is my favorite. The decisions Loghain make have a really interesting effect on the outcome of the world and thus, the decisions the Warden ultimately had to make. Because he is a major catalyst, and even when you kill him you have the effects of his decision ringing through the next game. It will be interesting to see if this interplay continues with The Architect, because The Architect is the catalyst for the entire story thus far. He started the fifth blight, which led to the decisions Loghain made, which ultimately lead to the warden becoming the hero and Hake becoming the champion and becoming so involved in the mage/templar conflict. What i'm basically getting at here is, regardless of what happens to The Architect, I think we will continue to see the effects of his decisions throughout the rest of the series.

    Finding the note "A Different Kind of Darkspawn" in Inquisition has made me truly believe that the Architect is one of the seven magisters that entered the Golden City, the note claims that a dwarf came across three large Darkspawn "kings" long ago who were arguing and blaming each other for "what happened"; Corypheus and the Architect are the largest Darkspawn (aside from Ogres and Alphas) that we have come across that also have the possible appearance of regality rather than savagery. .
    The incident apparently ended with one of them being killed and eaten while another fled, while there is no evidence of it, there is a possibility that the Architect is the one who ran and was then obsessed with the idea of curing his former brethren and the Darkspawn that they have created of their madness. It's also worth noting that the cold calculation of the Architect is similar to the way the magisters approached the problem of entering the Fade; caring little for those who are hurt along the way in the pursuit of a supposedly worthy goal.
    ;
    If this is true, then I believe that sparing the Architect is the correct decision (SPOILERS!) especially given how it seems that the Wardens are on a steady path to destruction at the conclusion of Inquisition: it may fall to the Architect's plans to stop the rise of Razikale and Lusacan.

    I killed The Architect. Everywhere he goes, every plan he makes to preserve the darkspawn, it all results in chaos and war. His first plan back in The Calling almost killed 90% of Thedas. His second plan around Origins time caused the Fifth Blight. His plan in Awakening caused the entire Arling of Amaranthine to almost be destroyed. All we need is for him to try and 'free' one more broodmother and we'll have another Amaranthine conflict. Besides, he's says he's doing it to stop all the Blights but there can only be two more Blights as only two more Old Gods are still alive. Three Grey Wardens ended the Fifth Blight in around a year. I say kill The Architect to stop his chaos then just let the Archdemons come at me. The Wardens kill them, all Blights are stopped and then all the Wardens have nothing left to do but join the dwarves and exterminate the last of the darkspawn.

    • @benjigoulbourne

      the fifth blight has officially begun. according to the lore, a blight is officially began when an archdemon shown itself. however it was defeated before it gained any momentum. what differs between the fifth blight and the past blights was that the warden quickly gather large forces. in the past blights, especially the first and second blight, the military forces took very long to gather a large number to fight together and organized. not to mention urthemiel is considerably weaker compared to the past old gods. while the architect was earnest in his wish to end the blight, it was driven out of survival of his kin, and so the measure he took was extreme, and care little for humans, just as charlie mentioned above. and the outcome is highly variable, for all we know, it could be dangerous and bad. living together side by side with the darkspawn in peace is a wishful thinking anyway, their taint will only damage the surrounding people and land.

    I don't know much about Inquisition, but the main plot is that the Veil is torn and we can enter the Fade.
    That could lead to us finding the Golden/Black City. Corypheus said that "the city was already corrupted" which contradicts the Chantry's story. That could mean the city was the source of the taint and the mages simply brought it to Thedas. That could mean if we find the source we could find a cure, or neutralise the taint, eventually.

    What separates the Architect from someone like Logain is that Logain betrayed those he swore to protect. The Architect never betrayed his fellow darkspawn and honestly wishes for peace and he cites the fact that the grey wardens are much the same doing whatever it takes to prevent future blights. However I felt about what he has done he was right as the Wardens are not above turning to forbidden magic or using similar means he used. Take Avernus for example in soldiers peak. While his methods are questionable his research could be invaluable.

    My decision to let him live was based on risk vs. reward of there being free Darkspawn. While they are normally just small groups that are more of a nuisance and really only bother Dwarves and small villages free ones could organize and thus form actual armies causing a never-ending Blight. On the other hand as Oghren points out free ones could also be negotiated with and thus there could be true peace and allow the Dwarves to reclaim some of the Thaigs they have lost.

    the architect is got to be one of my favorite characters from awakening hes likely a tainted magister who lost his memory and in DA:I i would like to see more of him for the sole purpose of seeing how he would react to corypheus given the tainted magisters all knew each other it seems like it could be one of the best things to see in the coming dlc and given the architect's personality and what little we know of him he would likely side with the inquisitor to stop corypheus from destroying thedas.

      Nocturne He's lying about his amnesia. Its been confirmed that he was the magister to Urthemial (the archdemon from origins) and when the magisters hid their names from each other he chose the name "The Architect" because he was responsible for building monuments and capturing the beauty of his god.

    What I want in the future DLC for Inquisition is there to be some kind of involvement with the Awakened Darkspawn and The Architect. Specifically, there's a certain Darkspawn that relays a message from the Architect to the Grey Warden that the Warden's Keep was going to be attacked a few days after the attack on the main city in Awakening (which is a name too damn long for me to remember). If you make that Darkspawn say and fight with you in the city and it survives the battle, you are given a choice to kill it or let it go. If you let that darkspawn go, during the credits of Awakening you'll see a panel that has text that says that same darkspawn left the Architect's service after the battle at the city. It also says that soon after rumors of a MASKED VIGILANTE that helps travelers by protecting them. I want THAT GUY as a DLC companion in Inquisition. He could be that "Purple" ending that Ashe was talking about; he could want to free his kinsmen from the call of the Old Gods and perhaps try to establish the Awakened Darkspawn as a 5th race. He'd be a great character since there would be plenty of grey area in how people could view him. Sure he's a vigilante hero, but he's still a darkspawn, which means that there were isolated incidents of the corruption. That could lead to some good drama.

After seeing Corypheus, I had imagined the Architect was either an old Tevinter magister (judging by his affixed clothing), but having him be a GW of the past does make sense for him. He has no clue of his origins and why he's unique in resisting the call. It's all curious.

    I dare say in Inquisition you will get the opportunity to travel into the deep roads for whatever reason and there you may or may not come across the Architect again maybe for some brief dialog. Also here's a thought if you remember Averus from Wardens Keep DLC he mentions the Darkspawn taint being alien to demons and thus Wardens or Darkspwan have a wider range of blood magical abilities, im curious where that will lead in inquisition :)

  • @thetallwarden

    I wonder if its possible that the Architect is one of the Tevinter magisters, albeit one much weaker than Corypheus. Perhaps he somehow had his memory taken? It would explain his magic, his resistance to the song of the old gods and the measure of control over his brethren. He himself states he doesnt know where he came from or why he is different. He may have also been the first darkspawn to have been freed, perhaps by this unseen force, in order to start the Fifth Blight at the time it did.

    Because If He Was set free, it will be mentioned in the epilogue as a helpful hooded traveler with a slight lisp who aided those he came by. Isolated incidents of the taint also occurred in the areas he visited, though the traveler and said incidents were never connected.

    • @Macder10
      @Macder10 10 лет назад

      the wardens knowing where the ancient prisons are is true. But its impossible for any army in thedas to get there.
      Remember when the warden is in the deep roads in DAO and you see that huge darkspawn army in the huge rift? Bioware has confirmed this was urthemiels resting place. Now take in account that if all old god prisons are surrounded by thousands maybe even millions of darkspawn: how will you get to them?

    • @MrJordwalk
      @MrJordwalk 10 лет назад

      The darkspawn don't know where the prisons are though and that's why it takes them centuries at a time to find each Old God.
      They constantly hear the song but never have any sense of the direction it's coming from, and so the process of searching for and finding an Old God is random.
      Also it's not so much that darkspawn are constantly pressing against the walls of each prison (which they do when they find one), but that the prisons are in remote areas of the Deep Roads. There aren't any Deep Roads entrances in the immediate vicinity of each prison, so an entrance 'nearest' to one of prisons could still be quite far away, and that's why people would have to cut through thousands of darkspawn.

    • @Macder10
      @Macder10 10 лет назад

      Cole Jordan actually the dark spawn know where the old gods are as well. bioware has confirmed that at every ancient prison there is at least 1 darkspawn army "nearby' (we dont know what their meaning of nearby is tho)
      its true that there are no immediate paths exist to the ancient prisons but even still: to reach them before the darkspawn who have been digging for them for hundreds/thousands of years?going to the prisons you would encounter a darkspawn army eventually

    I choose to let the Architect live by the fact that even though he's done all this, he is trying to do something good. Intelligent darkspawn may lead to a relative peace with humanity, maybe even with them knowing how it is to be a darkspawn to humanity and seeing the pain it causes it can be a way for them to stop the spread themselves. This is unlikely, but I feel like I should give it a chance.

    Yeah but Corypheus said the Golden City was already black when the mages got there so I think Dumat the leader of the old gods tricked them and maybe the taint is actually the old gods doing and the Wardens have a high resistance to the taint so it probably doesn't affect the demons possessing a Warden as bad as a actual darkspawn.

    I'll be the first to admit that my theory mostly conjecture on my part, but it's the most likely thing I can think of.

    This is going to sound out there but what about the Antivean Crows? There is potential here: Zevran, bolstered by a romanced warden, creates a new order to challenge them- or even takes over the Crows giving his quest being done in DA2, maybe a Zevran who goes back with tailsan then becomes a great assassin that you must face. Maybe he goes rogue and starts eliminating the Crows. It'd be a stretch of a talk but I'm interested as to what you think. Do you think we have seen the last of the Crows?

Watching your video I realized something, and it made me happy. What if the Warden acts as a moderating influence on the Archtect? And it would be fun to see what his disciples do to the world of Thedas in DA:I. Hopefully not another blight. It's also interesting to see a lot of parallel's with the Geth and the Darkspawn. I agree on the idea that is suggested in DAI also. Killing the (old gods) archdemons before they are resurrected, sounds like a logical solution to the problem. Although Solas suggests that's a terrible idea and it will make things even worse. So I wonder what will happen if so.
    And what happened to the archdemons that already died so far.. where their souls set free? If you think about it there can only happen two more blights right? Since the other existing archdemons are already killed?

  • @Comiccow6
    @Comiccow6 10 лет назад +1

    I spared the Architect knowing full well how many more would die in his experiments. However, I (and my Warden) had just gone through a year-long Blight. All the death and destruction in DA:O was the result of one year. Imagine the hell that a full Blight would cause. If you have to sacrifice 10,000 people to save 1,000,000, that's what you do. It doesn't matter if you see him as good or bad, the Architect is a powerful ally to have. Besides, the Grey Wardens will make sure he doesn't go too far.

    • @azureheart2846
      @azureheart2846 2 года назад

      This is one the exact reasons why I keep him alive. If I ally with the Architect then I keep an eye on him, I have an understanding of his movements, plans and experiments. If things go too far I can be there to stop him. I’m addition, I’m not entirely sure that we _do_ kill him in Awakening. The epilogues aren’t 100% reliable, but it can sometimes give me a good idea of what to expect, what exact consequences do I have with my decisions, and whatever I choose, the results are still the same. So assuming I actually failed in killing the Architect, then he’ll know that he can’t trust me, that I will hunt him down if I know he’s alive, and nobody will be able to keep him in check.
