You saved my life… Been suffering to water start in a 75 l. (I’m 83K)for a few days trying different options with no much success until today I tried your way. What a difference!!!!!, it really help you to have the wing up and running very quick in order to get the important stability that gives you. Thanks a lot
Thanks so much!! This is a game changer method. Now it's the only method I use and teach all the guys! Thanks so very much for this video. This changed my winging experience from tricky to being able to ride all conditions on sinker boards!
Good one, man. 🤙🏽 Seems a bit more intuitive than trying to get to your knees first. Can't wait to have a go with your technique next time out. Thank you for sharing the stoke! -Aaron
I would drown in the chop by doing this and how to see a gust or even the next set rolling in. Everything works out in the end. That's the good thing. Thank you for showing your method :-)
So I never have issue balancing like you show at beginning, even in choppy water (I'm in 68l board at 150 lbs) , but I will definitely try this when learning on low volume board. I know I would have problem balancing and reaching for the wing. Thanks for the tip!
I actually don't use this on the sinker board - I do a wakeboard sinking start on the low volume board. I wing in a river mouth with pretty consistent 2-4 foot swell. Between the swell and the outgoing tide water movement - it's pretty much impossible to balance without doing some variation of what I showed.
@@davewestfoils Nah still on kites, but have a friend at work who is into them. Was looking a board a while ago, because I was impressed at how little wind they could ride in, but then I saw the price of them 😄
Thanks for your video, and some feedback below, i am going to order the 4'7" 80L of Macro air (air flow) type board, i am not sure this is risky or tough ways for learning of wing foils since some sales are storing recommend me to use at least 100 L or above, as a new wing player, my mindset is this technique thing right, even i use the bigger boards for the while, still take time to adapt smaller board if i change over it, that is a reason i want to directly jump into smaller board, hope this is right choice. btw my weight is 60kg..
Good vid! In the forums they call it the stink bug start...i use it all the time.Quick and reliable in all conditions and boards. Is that RS Pro clear traction on your sinker?. I was wondering if it would be grippy enough without being abrasive on skin and wetsuit.Super lightweight solution.
Oh nice! I figured it out by accident cause I was struggling learning in a rivermouth with tonnes of backwash :) I like that name though. The RS Clear is not great. I don't recommend it from prone or wing. I'm changing it.
Hi Alejandro - my best advice is learning behind a boat or jetski first if you have access to one. Second to that is trying a staggered stance. I typically have my back foot on the down wind side of the board and my front foot on the upwind side of the board - about half a foot difference on my board. I'll be making a video about soon and probably some more content about learning so check in later on.
Yes, it is far more efficient than getting to your knees first. I orient my knees at 45 degrees to the board and stagger them, basically have them where my feet end up.
Or...you could just put some string on your kite and get up in a split second.....have WAY more power...and go WAY faster than slogging on a wing ding....

Legend so stoked to hear that bro!

So Good!!!
I tried this out after watching your video, OMG way easier method to get started. Many thanks
So Good!!!!
Good idea. Will try when I start to learn.
This is the best training video I've watched on this kind of technique
I can't wait to try it as it will give me the skills to move down a board size
nice. will try this out asap. Struggled a lot today with my new smaller board
What board volume, wing, body weight and wind were you out in?

Thanks Aaron - thanks for all your videos! I've watched tonnes of them over the years
This is the correct way to launch a sub 40 liter board! Good stuff thanks for sharing!
In my experience it is the easiest way for any board size. So much quicker and more stable. This is what I do on all my boards.
Great idea, well done on the video! Stay safe!
Great !!!! I was feeling the same way
….. will give it a go

Gave this a go today and it worked a treat 👍🏻
@@blooskyy7 So good to hear! Work smart not hard I say :)

Yo dude! This randomly popped up in my feed today! Hope you're well 🤙🏽
Have you stared foiling?

@@iandoveton gets expensive quickly doing both kiting and foiling. I’m doing all of them too - prone, winging, kite foiling & kiting.
Thanks a lot. Will try it on my 35 litres!
Nice one , will definitely try this 🙏
Good one! I usually just jump to my feet though…
Great technique!
Thanks Dave
Im going to try this, I get super unstable on my knees. Thanks!

This is a great method and is called the Stinkbug technique.
I still find it weird that all the videos I watched while learning didn't show it? SO much easier
Looks good , did you try also in a very very big choppy water or between waves ? Thanks
both - where I wing mainly you got huge chop from the outgoing tide in the rive rmouth plus the waves. That's why I started doing it this way.
Would you this be a thing I might use as a complete beginner?
For sure. Doesn’t only apply to sinker boards. Applies to any board.
@@davewestfoils Thank You!
Great tip thanks! Any tips to avoid falling when the foil starts to rise. As soon as it goes up, I get unstable and fall. Thanks!

Spear Lord how many litres is your board and how much do you weigh - cheers

I Also do that. Helps to be staggered so you can lean into the wind too. Thanks for watching.
Nice!
that's how I do it too!
That's the way i was taught
Is it good in rough water?
Way easier

They're called 'lines' not 'strings' for those of us in the know ;)
