Useful video! I had a go at doing it myself on a stove i use outside in the garden as a patio warmer and i put some 10mm rope around the door like you did but seemed that the door shut but not as fully or easily as it should. Is the rope diameter too thick or do you want it to be larger than smaller?
I had the same issue recently. The rope diameter does make a difference. Have a look at the hinge side though, you should be able to unscrew the hinge bar from the inside to let it out a little more so that the door fits flush across the front. If not, then yes, get a thinner rope unfortunately
@@mattseymour8637 If yours is anything like mine, you lift the door off the hinge then the bit that stays attached to the stove will probably have a bar going through the stove itself. This bar will have two nuts on it, one on the outside and one on the inside (they basically clamp the hinge to the front of the stove). These are what you have to loosen to move the hinge out slightly. If you are struggling with it or don't want to try, step down to an 8mm rope perhaps. I will say, you have to play around to get the door level if you start messing with the hinges.
Just a little tip, i clean my glass with the ash from the fire either with news paper or paper towel No effort at all.. thanks for showing how to replace rope.
@@derekalldridge4637 Hi Derek, I got this wrong the first time I did it, rather than looking at the old rope, I just got the thickest thinking it would be OK. Unfortunately, it brought the door to far out (beyond any adjustment of the door). If you can't find anything in the specifications on the net, try and gauge a cross section by eye.
@CloughReviews I have changed a rope before on I different burner and got lucky with my size of rope. My burner now is a mi fires Derwent but I can't find any info on the parts for it. I believe the way forward is to measure across the gap where the rope sits. I think that is the way to go.
Is there a difference between the gasket used for woodburning stoves and oil burning stoves? Can i use gaskets made for wood burning stoves, for an oil burning stoves?
Brilliant thanks. Got my rope. Having a bit of trouble getting the adhesive locally but soon as I have it it will get done.
You should always put the joint at the bottom of the door according to the manufacturers
@@regcheek3713 I took your advise and did this the next time I did it 👍🏻

@@CloughReviewsI was thinking it maybe the rope diameter so may try a smaller diameter one.
How do I adjust the door like you have mentioned?

Thanks, I'll try that 👍🏻
How do you know what size rope too buy? Is there a way of measuring?

If it is just an air seal, you should be fine
will normal superglue do the job or not ? great vid by the way 👍🙂
@@endurance8910 No, order the proper glue, it heat proof and does a fantastic job (make sure you shake it well) thanks for the comment 😁👍🏻
@CloughReviews cheers for the reply , will get the proper stuff then 🙂
Do you have to use tape on the rope ends.
No, just cut the rope with a sharp knife and try to make sure there is no gap between the ends 👍🏻😁
Yes you do, and the joint should be at the bottom of the door
@@skippymon True about the joint being at the bottom.
