    I left the tools by passing my examinations as an engineer when I was 30, but I still treasure my trade test certificate.
    Watched one of deedee's videos immediately before watching this one. Loved seeing your Shepherd keeping you company in your shop.
    Cheers from South Africa.

    Very much enjoyed watching the adjustment methods and component rack wear notes. Very glad your shop is progressing nicely. Mention my shop busy with a telehandler as routine hydralic hose refit with various clean and routine grease and where a Chev truck was towed to next project. Also nice to see other channel comments where critical adjustments are discussed. Look forward to your post(s). M.

    Thank you for addressing my post from the previous video in regard to the alignment of the leadscrew to the cross-slide. Clausing did provide a generous range of adjustment with their TA’s and I’d imagine it had something to do with the varying tolerances of a machine that was in production for 40+years and being that they sold the TA separately so that you could add it to an existing machine. I’d imagine thats the main reason their installation instructions were so good and addressed the importance of alignment. I like your method of reducing backlash and how you took into consideration the backlash in the telescopic joint. I can see some chasing their tail of they didnt think to add this into the total backlash.

    G'day Max. Excellent video with tons of content. Looking at the JFMT same as other lathes, we don't really think of all the Intricate bits & pieces that are fitted. The original designing, manufacturing of parts, assembly & fine tuning of such complex unit. Great video keep up the Great Work.
    Even the Trade Cirtificate Looks Good. Bugger I didn't think of that ohh & I could have put the M.I.A.M.E Certificate as well lol Yep missed that one 😅😊😂🎉

    Hi Max There is one more important adjustment on the cross slide to check which can contribute to backlash. The cross slide screw is anchored on the taper turning attachment end with roller thrust bearings. These thrust bearings should have a slight preload. If this preload is lost it can lead to backlash which mimicks the backlash in the front key drive. I am saying this because I had this problem and it took a while to figure out. Cheers.

    • @swanvalleymachineshop
      @swanvalleymachineshop  Год назад +2

      Thanks . That adjustment was done 3/4 of the way through the last video when fitting the taper attachment . It would be an easy one to miss if you were only doing an adjustment . Cheers 👍

    Nice update on the JFMT Max, I've been trying to figure out the rapid traverse drive system. Is there an electric motor that overrides the normal mechanical drive shaft feed or is the standard feed electrically driven all the time. It's keeping me up at night wondering...Lol
    ATB.....Cheers

    • @swanvalleymachineshop
      @swanvalleymachineshop  Год назад +1

      Buggered if i know the answer to that one yet ! I would guess the electric motor just drives the feed that is engaged & the handle spins around by itself . Like a rapid traverse on a milling machine . 👍

      @@swanvalleymachineshop That's funny. I remember your earlier videos when you were just starting construction of your shop. You had your tractor with the backhoe on it and I remember thinking that looks right out of a Mad Max movie. I always like the Mack in the Road Warrior. My dad used nothing but Mack R600's back then and other than the steering wheel being on the wrong side it reminded me of our trucks. Ken
