my brother and i have been doing his training for about two months now and we've noticed huge improvements in our ability to handle the cold. we started with taking baths with cold water, to adding a bit of ice, to where we are now with ten gallons of ice in our bath. it sometimes takes over an hour for it to thaw completely! combine that with his breathing and cold showers every day and i guarantee you will begin to adapt. the water in the pond we swim at is about 5 degrees and we're still going!
wish us luck! this stuff is for real. anyone can do it!

kaljamaha16 that seriously depends on how north you grow up, and your genetics. I could easily do this. And so could most of my childhood friends and neighbours. We still followed traditions of swimming in frozen lakes, letting kids sleep out in winter etc, which helps kids grow good resistance to cold. Tho i actually also have slightly better cold resistance than most finns, including my parents since i was kid. Not sure why but i literally can't feel cold the same way others can. My dad used to nag me all the time when i went out in t-shirt at winter. Also i have noticed that most people who live in capital areas are far weaker to cold for some reason.

@@PopTap If you are very active you can generate a lot of body heat. Generally it is the watts output in the swimming crossed with the caloric energy loss from submersion. The conversion contant of brown fat also is a thing, your body turns off certain processes and activates mitochondria to generate heat. Continued cold exposure causes the body to create more mitochondria leading to better thermal conversion. The body will also start processes that turn fat into brown fat for thermogenesis.. basically the more you are exposed to cold the more the body adapts to make heat.

I really like what Wim is doing and this video inspired me to go swim in the cold water. I have swim the first time 1 minute and later even 10 minutes! It felt great and had the sentece from this video in my head: "I don't feel the pain, I feel the power". That helped to get used to the cold water and don't have thought that it was cold and keeps the fear away. It felt great to do and afterwards I had some kind of mystical experience because of the exposure to the cold. Wim his method is really fascinating and it shows how much potential we all have and that their is so much possible in the world!

"The water here is just above freezing, 2 degrees celcius, wim intends to stay in for 15 minutes, that would kill most people.:" I have read Wim Hof's book, practiced his method, and I am capable of staying in 2 degree celcius water for longer than 15 minutes. This ability is indeed trainable.

Once you get past the initial acute spine tingling shock of your feet coming in contact with freezing water, it's actually quite therapeutic. I did a polar plunge in Lake Michigan during the dead of winter. It might've been negative degrees fahrenheit with the slight wind chill. We had a large almost pyre like camp wood fire on the lake shore. The primal feeling of fire and ice. Also, they gave us a really good bowl of spicy homemade chili to consume afterwards.

I've had rafting accidents And we all went in the water in the 40's deg range. We were all in a bit of panic so we didn't really feel it right away. But to just walk out into 32/33 deg water has to be difficult. For most of us.
