I am always impressed with Dr. Bessel. Social Neurobiology and ways to access the amygdala were pretty eye opening for me, in terms of its relation to mindfulness and compassion. Very interesting and full of ideas that merge the empirical sciences with practical ways of healing.
31:50 We are our bodies, our minds are an afterthought. 40:25 Explain Or Feel, either or. 46:50 Physical Safety 52:25 Pick them up, hold them, rock them, make them feel safe, sing to them, make funny noises, be silly. 1:08:55 Regulate yourself. 1:13:40 Notice that. 1:16:07 Wake up insula with deep physical sensations.
A detailed, deeply science based, yet easy understanable presentation with foqus on us, humans in a humanly way. Thank you for this impressive speech. Since I'm not a native speaker is it maybe possible to have cc or transcript?
Can someone caption this talk? RUclips no longer gives the option for viewers to caption vids. Could one of the talk organizers or one of Dr Van Der Kolk’s staff provide captions? Many thanks 😊
12:42 This! Is no joke! We need to completely start over with better language about conflict. Throw out the victim/abuser, good/bad language because it just isn't helping and replace it with language that describes our actual predicament! 52:00 This is what My Beloved did with me. And that is why I healed so much when I was with him. And isn't it ironic that when people do this for us, Therapists become suspicious? They are programmed to assume that that other person is doing that _only_ to get _their own_ needs met. 1:16:15 This was my marriage.
_Correct!!_ Because: Sexual Harassment and Lawsuits Very few Therapists can do this without experiencing "Counter-Transference". Which is ironic because the whole concept of transference exists to describe the felt sense of needing something from another person and the negotiating of getting those needs met either explicitly or implicitly. Why would someone experience Transference? Because they have needs and because the other person has a potential to meet those needs. So, isn't it curious how we end up with Therapy that includes all this junk that doesn't quite meet needs and a very powerful modality that potentially very much *does* meet needs is ignored?
we cannot hear Dr. van der Kolk's speech. Syllables of words keep disappearing. Please enhance the audio. It is exhausting to an older listener like myself. He keeps whispering parts of words. Get this right please. This problem can be overcome with re-mixing!!!! He could also be shown HOW TO HOLD A MIC TO CATCH THE PITCHED FOCUS OF HIS VOICE. Sincere appreciation requested.

Very interesting, but because of his accent and the fact that he swallows his words a lot, I can't understand a lot of it, which is unfortunate.

Great thoughts! Just wish he could have kept his political opinions to himself (definitely limbic!).
