I have a fiat 500, and it is used daily by myself 5ft 5", partner 5ft 10", teenage son, 5ft 7", the dog, 9 week old baby, his car seat, pram and all associated clobber...even manage to fit in some shopping!! I love this car and have never had a problem with it :) PS. I also live out in the countryside...so not using it round the city, and it has coped with all weathers and very rough country tracks.
Ok, I totally disagree.I live in NYC and I'm driving the fiat 500c for about 1,5 year and I think it one of the best cars in the market,it's practical small easy to park and really stylish!
i've driven the 1.2 petrol, it produces about as much power as a desk fan. huge flat spot in power before ~2,000 rpm which has caused me to almost stall on particularly steep hills while already moving, in 1st gear, with max throttle. had to ride that clutch like a horse to make it to the top of the hill. Good luck accelerating in 4th or 5th gear too. you have no chance of accelerating without at least ~2,500 rpm built up, and even that will only provide the bare minimum acceleration required for ordinary driving. Throttle response is literally 0 when driving economically (ie: 30mph in 5th). This becomes worse when the car has 4 passengers, to the extent that ordinary driving becomes a case of flooring it up to ~4,000rpm in 2nd gear to keep up with surrounding cars. Aside from that, its a pretty car on the inside and out, very retro. Feels very nimble on the road and driving in a busy city is where it shines for sure, with light steering, good visibility and small size. shame that i live in the country. TL;DR buy a different car unless being fashionable is more important to you than driving convenience. its good in cities but so are most other small cars.
I've been watching reviews for this car since I am interested in buying one and the comments on it are quite mixed ... some say it's perfect for the city with very little body roll in the corners, a very comfortable ride, more space in the back than the mini, less fuel consumption and of course less expensive, but some reviews have the complete opposite saying ... I wonder if it's just different opinions on the car or just a payed commercial review.
Fiats designers always knew they were missing something vital. Sure their compacts ticked all the boxes - knees by your chin, elbows out the window - but day after day they would return to the drawing board certain there was one trick they'd yet to try. And then, one beautiful genius whispered smaller. That's how the 500 was born.
I always wanted a 500 as my first car until I sat in the back of one. I'm only 5ft 2 and I was sitting behind someone of 5ft 6 and my knees were up against the back of the passenger seat. But surely that means it has a big boot? Wrong. It's tiny. Honestly, of every car I've ever been in, the 500 has to be the least practical. I just don't understand how the little VW Up can have so much legroom and a decent sized boot, and yet be even smaller. Why Fiat, why???

I'm thinking to get the Fiat 500 as it's the smallest car that is cheaper to tax and insure for an auto. I had to rebook my driving test for October as I need private practice as I'm currently driving a lot worse. My dad will be test driving a 2008 model in a few weeks so we don't know what to expect.
Join the club; I'm 5'9" (w/o shoes) and I just felt comfortable in the back of all versions, from Pop to Abarth! I guess it adds to this car's overall charm!
The U.S spec Fiat 500 Sport is the best 500 out! It comes with 16" low profile tires, sport button instead of the steering button, 7-speaker bose audio, red sport brakes and sport bumpers and a 1.4L 101hp standard engine and an optional Tip-tronic 6-speed auto, sport seats.
depending on the country you live many cars offer the spare tire as an optional extra, and as for a city car its not very common to get out of town the spare isn`t really a priority, but for example here in mexico in some regions its illegal not to carry a spare tire so the Fiat 500 and all other cars have to include it for free but in most of the world its an extra
I'm 6ft and easily fit in the back of my wife's 500 Popular without any problem. We bought a 500c last year and the rear headroom in the convertible is even better! I prefer it to my new Fiesta Titanium any day! The panda is better value clearly but it looks like a cupboard! Ride can be a bit harsh but build quality is unexpectedly excellent!
Yeah, I agree, I have been in Britain and Germany and I know what you mean. But you still musk know that you have it pretty good, I wish I could run bigger wheels and lower suspension on my car but what I really should get is an offroader :(

the only differance i can find between the fiat and mini is the dashboard. the one on the fiat looks more appealing than that big speedo/radio dial on the mini
And 15 years on, the minus points are having to replace parts of its brain - cpu for airbag, Blue&Me no longer works, even with an aged iPhone. Positive points are ZERO rust, and paint/ interior almost as good as new. Engine as good as ever too.
Such a small car isn't recommended for the highways. It is called a city car for a reason. Go with a Feista or Mini if you want a (bigger) small car that is safe for highway use.
Hi, I'm just about to buy this car and noticed that the automatic version sometimes rolling back or forward when u in gear (1st or R). And also you will feel the gear changing heavily when u in drive motion . Is this true
IMO old Twingo has the most appeal... for one it wasn't made to be an expensive resurrection of a legendary model but is an ordinary car that itself took to the stars. but that's just me.

To mention Fiat 500 and Mini Cooper in same breath is insulting the Mini. A Mini has true thoroughbred race-proven heritage. Did Fiat 500 ever win the Monte Carlo rally? What did it ever win? Perhaps a race against an SUV to the grocery store. LOL
This car is not girlish. It has a lot of history behind it. It's a decent city car, with enough space for 4 people. Personally, I think it's beautiful and generally a very good car.
