I’m elated, delighted, and extremely excited to go through each of your classes and dedicate time and effort to them. Albeit I don't know you, I guarantee that I am eternally grateful. Thank you very much, Mr. Eviston.
I've meant to draw for a while, and having your courses makes the process straightforward, delightful, and enjoyable. I don't have to worry much about learning it properly since I'm sure I am, and all I have to do is do it! Just yesterday, I began figure drawing for the first time. And I’m keeping it simple, and it’s going phenomenally. I've improved a lot. :) I even got a HUGE sketch pad-much like your video, too! Anyhow, thanks again, Mr. Eviston. I can’t wait to delve further into what you have to offer.
Brent, I am a longtime student of yours from the place where all your courses are. You are the best, best, best teacher. Thank you so much, you changed my life.
Thank you so much for these videos. You're the best teacher I've found on youtube. Every sentence you allow to be spoken in your videos has purpose and value to it.
I used to draw but I kinda stopped for years and forgotten how to do drawing. I wanna revisit it again. Thanks to this channel I am going to re learn the stuff I used to do.
There are so many different approaches, it's a bit overwhelming to hone in on what works. I've also seen fundamental skills lists include perspective, texture, values, and more. I do like this video, it makes drawing seem approachable. I guess I'm afraid of developing bad habits and having to unlearn them like you said. I think I will give your videos a go. I also like Alphonso Dunn. One more question I have is about the use of viewfinders and pencil grips.
So far you're the best teacher I had found on the internet. I am a beginner at drawing. I want to be pro graphic designer. I had watched a lot of your videos on drawing. I had practiced many times already but I am struggling with proportions in drawing. Can I chat with you? I had a lot of questions regarding drawings.
If we are a lelf taught artist, how many repetition we do for each step before moving into the next step. 100 drawings, 1000 drawings, 10.000 drawings, or more than that? I just dont want to stay in one step of learning too long or even too fast.
Hi Mr.Brent, should I go through this learning process to become a concept artist? Or take a specialized course instead ? Did you have a student who had a similar goal? Or only student who want to figure draw? And does anyone know what can I learn after this in order to be a storyboard artist?
You asked what am I struggling with. I am struggling with many of the pod cast, who are teaching to paint. Some will start with exact copy, that had been enlarged, and TRACED all ready on their canvas, skipping all the basics of creating, as you do. They justify for them to skip, and TRACE, right over a photo, to save time because they all ready know how. However, I have seen as one showing how to do a sunset, glowing through pine trees, on top of a hill. On the opposite side of the pine showing glimmer of light, is a hill, that slops down. Shrubs are shown, that lead down to a river.. SHADOWS is included, and all the very bottom is shown a sliver of light.. Question. if sunlight at sundown is in front of pine trees WAY at the top of the hill, how can shrubs below out of light, cast a shadow. and along the bottom where the river is more shrubs and tall grass is , there is a thin line of light. Now this person teaches, with a sketched drawing and is fairly good at using her exact photo, skipping all else, and making a business at doing this. I have NOTHING against using photos as a reference, In life light changes within the 7min. But if learned correctly, and to say they all ready know how to draw, other than to check to see if the animal they intend to draw, and not exactly sure, use a reference, because animals do not stay still for long. and museums are fixed in , so several references may help to show the direction of fur may follow., or indent in the muscles. I get this, but to use a tracing of the exact from a photo, is wrong. I have watched Andrew Tishier., ok he sort of skips all the lines in crating a head, but he does show enough line , when he starts to do a portrait of someone, concentrating on the values of color, basic lines in the persons face, unlike what i see from those who copy exact from their photo. And the problem the students they teach, end up teaching the same , as if by MAJIC everyone over the NIGHT can become artist , Easy, just take a PHOTO , enlarge it, trace it , and then NOW use a PROJECTOR and enlarge the Very photo you are coping from. GOT FAMILY, Relatives. MONEY, money, money, crank out those copies made, and sell, Ha, ha all you people still struggling with paying RENT HEAT, food, and children. Ha Ha you were born poor., and are starving artists, and can't afford to ENTERS SHOWS , and all the HIDDEND costs , entrance fee, hotel/ motel cost, belonging to a GUILD yearly fee, and transportation, fee.. OK, I am a bit angry because someone who does this exact same thing,, coping from magazines, even other other artist, but she add a bit of a flair, to hers buy adding Water drips , and splatter of paint.to some what cross over a bit to the Abstract side, but it is because she does not know how to do her own shadow. of her animal if she doesn't just want a dark background or white. She does not teach. but thinking of it. I seen the Tour of The" Society of Wildlife Artist Annual Exhibition 2021" , and the woman showing off the Art, made the exact comment as the was admiring the Abstract part of Wildlife, compared to " The COPIED REALISM ART" which was boring to her. What I was wondering what do YOU THINK? Is there hope for us who do not Crank out Art as fast as those who COPY, and skip making a mistake, or change something in their composition ? Those of us who Like DETAIL as GOD CREATED those fine deals and try to capture them in our paintings? Do you see hope ? Or will we be lost as time goes on all due to so many COPISTS. and no longer need for any of us , because "AI" has been created. capable to turn out far faster Realism in any medium. without coping, AI , just watches a cheetah run, kill , in certain light, and program it to paint such a scenery, and it is done. ABSTRACT art could possibly be next..
Hi Brent, I’m looking forward to digging into your classes on Skillshare! I want to know if you have any suggestions for drawing posture in a limited space practice; I pretty much just have an armchair to work in. I often sit with my feet resting on the wall (much like on a footstool, but a bit higher). I don’t know if this really allows for drawing from the shoulder as much, and the biggest drawing pad that I can comfortably hold is about 11x14 inches (honestly I think I prefer something smaller, 11x14 is kinda awkward to hold up for very long). Do you have any suggestions for learning to draw without an easel, while sitting in a chair? Many thanks!
You can get started drawing with any materials you have around the house. You can see some of the materials Brent recommends for students here: Beginner Drawing Materials: www.amazon.com/shop/theartscienceofdrawing
I am a beginner at drawing, I am teaching myself by watching and reading books. I have watched so many RUclipsrs on how to, and you are simply the best I have encountered. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and teaching us what is the most important thing to focus on. I am planning on taking your courses once I can do the very basic shapes.
Thank you! Very clear and rational. I just signed up for your online course for beginners, and the opening session is exactly what I was looking for. I'm excited to get through the whole series.
I need your advice hope u can see this im 23 and life has somehow kept me away from achieving my dreams i mean i feel like its too late but i really want to start the new year with a considerable progress in drawing and and seriously i have a dream that I want to realize for myself in animation :( what should i do how can I improve in 4 months? How many months should I give to the steps you listed? And how can I overcome the feeling of being really late? :(
I enjoy your instruction. Had purchased your courses but lost them into the ether. Nice to see these videos. I’ll visit your website to see if my account is still active.
I never taught myself to draw 'properly' and as a result can only draw in my style, which is cartoon-like. If you asked me to draw you, I wouldn't know how! Thankfully, that's not something I'm interested in doing. But I completely understand the point.
The courses on the www.brenteviston.com website have been updated and redesigned as well as remastered for better sound and picture quality than the videos on Udemy, although the instructional content is largely the same.
