I have created a playlist for the Amatola, it pretty much covers everything you need to know when planning your hike. Food to bring, detailed expenses, alles. ruclips.net/p/PL0zkf-tTqJpsSJT6jMeimWokWpdjiAhs2
Now as for the conclusion if you can deal with unexpected nature of the rain which can leave the forests soggy and in a muddy mess, the climbs which at times can be over 800 meters, the creepy crawlies and the misinformation about the distance of the huts then this hike is as memorable as the best of the best. I loved being on it and love talking about with an endearing love and yearning in my soul. Thank you sooo much for this upload. 💖
@@AfricanHiker Well we did it tough in the old days LOL. My lowest point was the meteorites. It was raining heavily and I slipped in between two rocks and my friends had to help me out. There were many swearwords exchanged. I was freezing. After we got to explore the then Ciskei - beautiful. Have you ever done the full moon walk on lions head? Is that still a thing?
Eina. Thats a wonderful way to end the trip, the area is so beautiful, we drove down to the beach, to Cintsa bay. No I haven't done it, it is still a thing but I live in Jhb. (Ps sorry for the late response, I just seen that RUclips doesn't notify me of replies to my reply.)
Hello, I do not have a hiking club yet, but you'll be first to know if I ever do 😉 I am a member of the Johannesburg hiking club, they hike every Sunday & Wednesday and also have lots of away hikes.
It is Amathole...that's is the isiXhosa name for the range of mountains...Amatola is how the English called it. Correct spelling is Amathole, meaning cow calves.I am from the area,eQonce to be precise and my ancestral home is eZingcuka😁
@PMandisi hmm, the signs were written 'Amatola trail' when I was there. If you watch the video you will see that. Anyway, nothing to split hairs over, we can both agree that it was a fantastic trail 🥾

It is a pleasure, thank you for your comment. The Amatola is truly something special ❤
Thank you for this video- I now want to visit SA even more! x
You are welcome 🤗 🇿🇦
In 1995 there was no running water, never mind hot water. It was an experience. Good to see the hike is still going.
Woah 🙀 those hot showers are what resuscitated me at the end of the day.

Awesome video! I really want to do the Amatola trail! What time of year did you do this trail?
Thank you Ruth.
You must do it, it is fantastic!
Spring, late October.
Hi Anita! Do you have a hiking club? If you do are we allowed to join?
Hello, I do not have a hiking club yet, but you'll be first to know if I ever do 😉 I am a member of the Johannesburg hiking club, they hike every Sunday & Wednesday and also have lots of away hikes.
Is there alot of mosquitoes
No there weren't any, but we had cool & rainy weather so that was probably a factor in their absence.
Is the correct spelling 'Amatola' or 'Amathole'?
They are both correct. Amatola is the one used when talking about the hiking trail and Amathole is the spelling of the district.
Actually all the sign boards were written 'Amathole Trail' when I did it in 2017 and in 2019.

You are from one of the most beautiful parts of the country ❤
