Heres one, when it first launched many bought it just as a standalone dvd player because it was cheaper than many players were at the time (my grandparents were a prime example, it was only used for games whenever we came around)
Haha i am literally watching this video on the bravia tv with ps2 in the base! I got it for a bargain £25 back in 2013! Now it sits pride and place as my pc monitor
As a Brazilian, who also happens to have repaired hundreds of ps2 throughout the years, I've NEVER seen in my life a ps2 stock, without a chip mod. So yeah, the ps2s feom Paraguay were very much a thing lol.
One thing that is also annoying, when using PS2 CD Games: The disc is spinning much faster, which results in the console being fairly loud. Yeah, I know - models before V9/V10 were loud by itself, but the disc was even louder than the fan then xD
I was expecting the usual "X facts you don't know" clickbait when this rolled through my feed, but I actually learned a few new facts, and it was quite entertaining. I would definitely be down for a PS3 facts video.
The irony of my first PS2 getting disc read errors on anything DVD, from DVD-ROM games to DVD movies, but was able to read anything on CD discs without issue, which included only one PS2 game I had out of 3 at the time and my entire PS1 library.
Its funny you say the cd reader is what goes first on the ps1 because ive had three seperate ps2s that could only play ps1 games by the end of their life
That is how I remember it. Back in the day, I had a couple of early model PS2s die due to disc read errors, and it was always the DVDs that would fail to read first. You could usually still play CD games (including PS1 games) after the disc read errors started on DVD games.
Someone else has heard of the Rez vibrator! It's the only game I know that has a sex toy accessory. The original advertising claimed that it came with a storage pouch that was washable. They knew what they were doing.
The Sega Saturn controller for the ps2 actually makes sense. The Saturn controller was GREAT for fighting games, and for those you don't need an analog controller on the ps2 so...
One small misinfo here. The PS2 didn't beat them "all" to crossplay gaming. Dreamcast did it first with PCs and Quake 3 Arena, and with the PS2 and PCs with Unreal Tournament. Still a great feature though, modern console gamers think it's a new revelation but far from it.
I swear I heard that the FFXI platform cross-play was the first of it's kind for ANY game? There's rumblings in the darkest recesses of my memory that it was in the Guinness Book of Records for that exact feat?
Not exactly, Quake 3 Arena on Dreamcast was a crossplay enabled game before this, and Unreal Tournament also was crossplay enabled between PC x Dreamcast and PS2. Final Fantasy was nowhere near first to do it.
Halo on PS2 never was the FPS version it would have been the RTS version, it didn’t become an FPS until after bungie was purchased. it also would not have been the TPS because that version was only a concept for a few weeks. The Halo DS was a pitch and developed on the GoldenEye - Rogue Agent (you can play it) it was obviously never picked up but it leaked a few years back. The leak is just multiplayer btw
24:10 - Wait till you hear about the GameTrak controller! It was not exclusive to the PS2 thought. BTW, if you have some soldering skill, it's pretty easy to fix that Resident Evil chainsaw controller!
I’ve seen and have all consoles as well as tons of games from 1980-Now the PS1 PS2 PS3 PS4 and PS5 are the best consoles through these generations prior to that would be NES and SNES
They usually had the best games and generally had decent hardware but they are, in my opinion, less innovative than their competition. Especially in the PS2 era. I think Nintendo learned its lesson from the CD drive snafu that ultimately spawned the PS1. Even before that the NES had lots of controller variants (most of which worked poorly, if at all *cough power glove). The Wii controller concept was honestly pretty fun. Microsoft's solution was different enough to be novel but a little imperfect. Sony's solution was to just copy Nintendo and charge extra. Sony had that red ring of death and overheating issues with the early PS3. I've been forced to replace a PS2 and a PS3 but never replaced a Nintendo or Xbox, or TurboGrafx 16 for that matter. I did have to replace some Gameboys but not because of hardware failure. Don't get me wrong I was a die hard PlayStation fan from almost day 1 (blame FF7) but too be honest a phone call with Sony's customer service over the ps3 really pissed me off. I did replace the PS3 out of pocket but haven't bought a PlayStation since. To be fair I invest most of my money into PC gaming. The console games I loved having changed so much they don't even resemble the GF games I cared about but PC has a lot of indie and even mainstream games that do so take that for whatever it's worth. Don't get me wrong I'm absolutely fed up with the video card prices and the BS that spills over occasionally, but you've always got options with PC. Maybe I'm just turning into my grandfather, God I hope not he was a mean old bastard, but I look back on the PS1, PS2, NES, SNES, and TurboGrafx like an old friend lost and can't help but think that just don't make them like they used to. Than again I guess that's not always bad, that stupid power glove cost a damn fortune and the only thing that worked was that standard control on the arm. Literally a Nintendo controller attached to the stupid glove that was too awkward to use! I'm still still pissed because the movie wizards made it look so cool and it was little more than an expensive Halloween accessory! It was more or less a none working mockup of the Wii controller years before the Wii.

Didn't know about the PSP thing! Very cool!

i LOVED the cross functionality for the socom games with the ps2/psp

Mistake found:
First faills DVD laser.
I repairing PS2 consoles. And 99% of them is DVD laser failure.
CD lasers working as new in these cases.

Delete animations was something we all probably saw as kids but overlooked those small details.
I loved those.
I miss the PS2 3D icons. Modern console UIs lack the personality and charm of the early 3D days.
Nice sub botted channel 😂
The vulture art is getting more impressive every week.
Yeah it is!
Someone else has heard of the Rez vibrator! It's the only game I know that has a sex toy accessory. The original advertising claimed that it came with a storage pouch that was washable. They knew what they were doing.
The first PS2 I received could not play DVD (non-blue) game discs. We had to exchange it.
PS2 games came on dual layer DVDs too, up to 8.5GB. You only mentioned the single layer size.
Grand turismo 4 and god of war are examples of dual layer discs, they have a yellow tint compared to the silver dvd discs.
The Sega Saturn controller for the ps2 actually makes sense. The Saturn controller was GREAT for fighting games, and for those you don't need an analog controller on the ps2 so...
I still have my ps2 Guncon controller. It's broken, but it's sentimental to memories of playing the PS2 Time Crisis games w/ friends & family

watch the whole entry! lol
by "all" we mean the last generation and games we just mentioned
You can get a 3rd party screen that connects to (and is powered by) the PS2.
the ff7 lofi is just amazing idk why
I remember seeing pictures of Halo in a magazine I owned back in the day. Wish I kept my old stuff now 😂
as always I greatly appreciate your work
I remember that PS2 military use rumor. Around my area it was Saddam Hussein replacing the computers in Iraqi fighter jets with PS2s.
Jumped the gun again
About as believable as US troops having to wear dresses to be more inclusive.
On the PSP trivia, Outrun 2006 also had a conectivity with PS2 to unlick songs and some cars if I recall
the 6th gen of gaming was truly something else.
Didn’t you have that CD-color difference in a previous episode?
I swear I heard that the FFXI platform cross-play was the first of it's kind for ANY game? There's rumblings in the darkest recesses of my memory that it was in the Guinness Book of Records for that exact feat?

I think God of War 2 had a 1080i mode.

Aye nice video
PSP Socom was really hard... I had a hard time cause shooters on that platform did not have the second analog stick needed for proper shooting.
I wonder if the guy who changed his name to mr. ps2 regrets it
he changed it to Nigel N-Gage after
Fun fact about Sony/Linux partnership - Playstation OS 4 and 5 are built on Linux kernel. I guess they made it official...
