The October 7 massacre was a large-scale terrorist attack led by Hamas, a Palestinian Sunni Islamist terrorist organization, from the Gaza Strip against Israel, against civilian and military targets in the area surrounding Gaza, while committing massacres, rape, mutilation of bodies, confirmed killing of civilians, kidnapping of civilians, looting of property, war crimes, and crimes against humanity.[10][11] Other terrorist organizations that are members of the Palestinian Joint Operations Room participated in the massacre, including Islamic Jihad. Many Gaza residents not affiliated with the terrorist organizations also participated in the massacres, looting, rape, and kidnapping of civilians
. טבח שבעה באוקטובר היה מתקפת פתע טרוריסטית רחבת היקף שהוביל חמאס, ארגון טרור אסלאמיסטי־סוני פלסטיני, מרצועת עזה על ישראל, נגד יעדים אזרחיים וצבאיים במרחב עוטף עזה, תוך ביצוע טבח, אונס, ביזוי של גופות, וידוא הריגה על אזרחים, חטיפת אזרחים, בזיזת רכוש, פשעי מלחמה ופשעים נגד האנושות.
בטבח השתתפו ארגוני טרור נוספים החברים בחדר המבצעים הפלסטיני המשותף, ובהם הג'יהאד האסלאמי. תושבים עזתיים רבים שאינם משויכים לארגוני הטרור השתתפו גם כן בפעולות טבח, ביזה, אונס וחטיפת אזרחים
