Thank you for uploading this..... I grew up in Nottingham through all the 70's & 80's and left in 89 and I haven't been been back once since...... Since seeing your upload I've decided to go back and have a look at my old stomping grounds.... Bless you
The 3 I remember from Nottingham are The Savoy, Odeon and ABC. I watched Superman, Star Wars and 2001 at the Savoy in the days where the films were in two parts and the usherettes sold ice cream in little tubs and Butterkist toffee popcorn.
I've been told here were 50 cinemas in Nottingham by WW2 or maybe just after and each suburb would have at least one local cinema. People moved had different habits then. Even today there's many repurposed old cinemas in the suburbs and its always interesting to come across them. I remember a couple of years ago when a homeless person froze to death in the doorway of the old Odeon on Angel Row, just round from where I was staying.
Great stuff I left Nottingham in 1970 but i still remember it well I used to go to the Odeon every week on saturday mornings and saw my old bus school stop in the video Many many thanks for the memories
I am not a Nottingham man but I'm delighted to have found this video the Odeon was their prototype twinning exercise note the Cinemacchanica projectors and solid state amplification then state of the art.Nice also to see the old old ABC symbol. Futurists were once an important second run chain now sadly long gone. This film is of,great value Thankyou for sharing it
Thats great, My mums Grandparents ran the pub in the 50s. In recent years she searched for a picture and info on the pub, but never found anything. She sadly passed away a couple of years ago and would have loved the clip of the Golden Key.
Great memories from the Nottingham odeon - when Ghostbusters came out in the 80s there was a cue stretching past the library wasy past the toy shop. I liked the ABC better though - I saw Jaws there in 1977.
i saw 'A view to a kill' & 'Return of the jedi' at the Odeon. I watched Ghostbusters in Ilkeston. My first cinema experience was 82' when ET came out, i was 5 yrs old.
I asked the question on the Nottingham forum and someone was good enough to respond and to also post a photo of the pub. You might like to check it out - the link is in the video description as I'm unable to post it here.
Saturday mornings ABC minors at the Metropole Sherwood in the early 70s when I was at Junior School.😀 Cartoons and a Film. Used to be about 5p to get in.
I was born in the 70s, not the 60s! Oops. Walked down Angel Row today and saw the fading outlines of the "ODEON" sign where the cinema was, up there against the concrete. Was quite striking after seeing this video.

I still go to savoy with my friends, lovely place and I really hope it stays there!
I love Nottingham
So do I. I spent a large and memorable part of my childhood there. Always missed it.
This is amazing! Thank you so much for allowing me to see my home city back in the decade I was born. You are a star :)

John Shuttleworth with the narration here.
Hi for the conclusion of the odeon,,,,,search for "last day odeon"
"The futurist savoy" lol
A good day for Julie Andrews fans I see.
Look more 80s
Great. Sad that The Savoy is the only decent cinema left.
Ironic that the clip discusses the magic of the projectionist and their cuts whilst the video has some awful audio edits. Lol
Hi, Could the Nottingham post feature this video online please? - with a credit of course.

Pity about squashing 4:3 into widescreen. Quite barbaric for a cinephile.
