MGM not only refused to hire Shirley for having a semi good singing voice, she explained in an interview, when she was invited to a meet up at the company, she was seperated from her mother (both where sexually harrassed in the offices) a producer showed his private parts to Shirley and she started laughing. The mens ego dropped immediately and they were kicked out the building. That's why they no longer considered her.

Now I see why. The 30s were a scary place between starving and slapping little girls, lobotomies, the way the mentally ill were treated, what these poor actors had to endure. Just everything...it seems like a horrible nightmare and I feel so sorry for all of those poor people. And you know what? I need to take back something I said on another unrelated video. Nobody starved anybody, and Judy wasn't a little girl. The slap was a desperation move for which Fleming felt awful and Judy forgave him. They were paid according to the terms of their various contracts, and what they received was good money in those days.

I am devastated for her, for all of them. Unfortunately, this exploitation of children still goes on in Hollywood to this day. Overworked, sexual abuse, drugs, alcohol it's all still there. More and more former child stars are coming forward to tell their experiences of sexual abuse and threats to keep quiet. It's unreal to me that there are so many grown adults with a sick and perverted mind for children. What the hell is wrong with ppl. The fact that Judy's mother was the first to cram her full of drugs is sickening and infuriating to me. She should have been the one jumping up and snatching her child off that set before a single drug entered her body and without that child being deprived of proper food for even a single day. Your child is NOT your meal ticket and I find it heartbreaking they were used and abused and even the mothers refused to protect their little miracles. I wish I could protect them all if their own mothers wouldn't. As I'm sure every other decent mother out here feels the same. A child is a cherished blessing, they are not here for adult's amusement or bank accounts. I just will never be able to wrap my mind around this topic.
God is watching, do they not get that? One day they will regret their deplorable depraved actions because judgement befalls us all.

The fact they called her next day to see when she would be coming back makes me sick - that she was afraid to sue because of fear to never get hired again makes my heart break for her. Judy Garland recreated her Dorothy in 1950 for the Lux Radio Theater, Ray Bolger played the Scarecrow in many other projects, and Margaret Hamilton never lost an opportunity to sing the film's praises.

Just saying yet left convincingly so.
