Nice video, i served on this ship 78-79 electronics tech 2nd class. Berthed in compartment 2-24-0-L 2nd deck midship directly aft of the anchor windlass room, at time 10:18, my compartment is to your left, head (bathroom) on your right, anchor windlass room dead ahead. The so called captains bar is in DCC (damage control central) where all communications during general quarters are received from all departments and relayed to the captain on the bridge. Sailors sat at that table with headphones plugged into those jacks on the front of the "bar". Great memories.
Great video of Spiegel Grove. I have been on her many times. I have to get my Advanced Wreck so I can explore the Engine room and leave a memento at the Captain's Bar, so my grandson can find it later.... 🙂
Outstanding penetration dive and 4K video! During my Navy career, I deployed to the SIXTH Fleet in the Mediterranean Sea with SPIEGEL GROVE in my Amphibious Ready Group and I've dived on/into her (ex-LSD-32 several times (most recently in AUG 2022). One never forgets their first encounter with the TOP DOG (Snoopy riding atop an alligator -- symbol of the "Gator Navy") emblem in the passageway tile!!! WELL DONE!!!!
Wow, first thank you for your service. It must be a completely different experience for you to glide through those narrow corridors. I love that ship and was very fortunate to have such a great guide (Jimmy G.) lead the way. Thank you for your comments

Iam from Greece. Sorry for my English. Stunning video footage. Congratulations for your courage. I confess that it is very dangerous. Iam feeling scared 😰 only in the thought of being so deep, in the bottom of the sea. But great informations. 😊 And very good 👍 job. Exceptional. Thanks. Frangesca.
That is INCREDIBLE. Are there any fears of getting lost and stuck in there? Or are there big cutouts often enough you can get out most places if you forget how to retrace your steps?
Thank you. The guide is amazing. Knows the wreck inside and out. That shop can be very dangerous without proper training. You should research the history of how it became a dive site
Thank you very much!! I honestly don’t know. The guide on this dive is Jimmy Gadomski. He knows the ship like the back of hand. Thank you for your comment
What dive camera set-up do you have? Awesome video! I dove the Spiegel last week with Horizon Divers and am going back next week. Would love to get a good video of my dive.
Thank you so much, I normal shoot with a Panasonic LX-10 with large Big blue light. But, since I’m new to tech diving, I just had a GoPro 10, with large big blue lights. In my opinion… light are the real difference maker. When you have plenty of additional light you don’t need a red filter. Both my lights are video (120 degree angle). Also, you’ll notice the dove guide also has powerful lights helping to fill the rooms. Love the Spiegel!!!!
Thanks@@Peters.Trees.and.Seas.! I was at the Spiegel myself a couple of weeks ago. Is the BigBlue your primary? I was super impressed with how well lit up your interior shots were vs using a narrow beam light.
I’m no marine biologist. But in my opinion it’s good because it becomes a reef habit for so many types of marine life…from coral to Pelagics. In my limited experience the ships that are artificially sunk are in sand beds, where very little structure exists. But, I’m sure the corroding metal does not help. I’m going to research this. Great question
@@Peters.Trees.and.Seas. It’s . just I read something once where someone was suggesting that the old Sunken ships actually made the sealife fish etc that lived on the these ships .
