My aunt had one of these, She didn't maintain it well at all. It always clogged and we called it the Hoover Constipation. My mom took it when she died and it was a fantastic vacuum.
My Grandmother had a Hoover Constellation ( as pictured above), that fantastic spacecraft/vacuum that floated on a cushion of air instead of wheels. It floated beautifully all over her house except for the uneven junction between carpet and tile. There it would lose air pressure and become marooned, needing a push to coax it back into frictionless travel. A little heartbreaking really, and when playing with it as a child I carefully avoided that forbidden zone. I would remove the attachments and , holding the end of the hose, fly it in a circle around me. I liked to yell orders into the open end of the hose as I spun, holding it like a microphone and occasionally letting it suck the air from my lungs. Eventually the power cord would wind up tightly around my ankles and my Grandmother would have to come and unwind me. This sequence would repeat until I vomited
I have the same one. The # 84 with the riveted halo had better flotation than the earlier models with the hinged "donut bottom" and is rare. Check eBay for replacement brushes on the floor nozzle and dusting brush. There is a seller that has a lot of "New old stock" . Those were Hoovers second canister model and the first with a disposable bag ( J ). You can renew the hose by soaking it in a solution of liquid laundry detergent and warm water for a day, then gently clean the outer hose and rinse with warm water. Before it is completely dry, spray well with Armorall to condition the "Ultraflex""… P.S.- The replacement parts for the rug/carpet tool are # 34450C1 (Red litter picker ) and # 34167C1 for the replacement brush. I bought them from uptowngirljeni on ebay. The handle is made of the same "indestructible" material that 1950's telephones were made from- "Catalin" ( I believe it is spelled )…
That floor tool is interesting. We never got that style on our UK models. The majority of our machines of this era had the floor tool that the Portable (Suitcase) had. How do they compare would you say?
I just got one in the same color two days ago! mine has one difference though, I think it's older. the exhaust base on mine has the older style shape with a larger base that was replaced shorty after with the one you have there

I always liked the sound of these. I have a 60s one that's branded Penncrest for JCPenney.

Very cool looking vacuum. It was probably on display next to some animatronic woman in the Epcot center.
Always thought these were interesting machines. I’m amazed Maytag remade them to be honest. Sure don’t build them like they used too

Post some pictures of it up on the vacuum land discussion.

I’m pretty sure I have a brush strip if you still need one.
I want these so badly
What type of hepa bag did you use for the filter? I’m getting a constellation, and would really like to know.
Any Hi flow big HEPA will do. Hoover y or Kirby bag work
Performance Reviews Thanks. I’ll try a Hoover Y.
2:35 thats what i tell the ladies
