"Barbara Ann" is a song written by Fred Fassert that was first recorded by The Regent's as "Barbara-Ann" . Their version was released in 1961 and reached No. 13 on the billboard Hot 100 chart. The Beach Boys recorded their cover in 1965 on their live album Beach Boys Party! So it's a cover of a cover of a cover !
The Beach Boys actually did the "cover" of this 1st. It was originally done by the Regents I think. Nemophila did a cover of the parody from the Despicable Me movie. This was Nemophila just having fun with something.
This was done as a Xmas celebration from Nemophila paying homage to their loyal fans a few years ago. Just a bit of fun. Someone's having a bit of fun with you David. Got to put a smile on all of our faces.💝🎄🎉
Interesting reaction!!! I can’t actually be bothered to listen to it all again, but I’m pretty sure you never used the word fun in there. I’m sure in the past you’ve noticed when artists are enjoying themselves and having fun. Have you been on the reaction treadmill too long???
Sometimes it is just best to sit back, relax, not over analyse and get bogged down about musical rights etc and just see and enjoy the fun in front of you. Mayu holds up a small sign that says: Needs more rock. Then we get the break down. 😀 Still a good score from you and that was surprising. Thank you for your basic rock & roll lesson 😎
I'll confuse thing just a little bit more .... "Barbara Anna" is a song by The Regents (1961), and The Beach Boys made a cover of it in 1965, which got more attention. I would categorize this as a cover to a "parody". I think you have to assume, like with Weird Al songs, that Pixar got the rights/permission from The Regents, in order to make the parody "Banana" song. I just can't imagine Disney lawyers letting such a thing slip through the cracks.
*Parody* my dude, Parody. Weird Al made a career out of it. You don't need to pay as its fair use (but Weird Al did respectfully ask first and typically given a thumbs up...unnecessary, but it was his brand). This song was fun and pointless. If anything, this channel introduced me to Nemophila. Such an amusing band.
Not to be depressing, David - but I'm afraid the fact that you (and I) were able to go - "What, this is just Barbara Ann with mumbled, unintelligible lyrics" means we're old. That said, the Nemophila cover is definitely fun, one of the ones showing how they don't take themselves too seriously.. Just a fun, silly video (but still showcasing their talent).
There are also versions of "Barbara-Ann" from The Who, Blind Guardian, Vinnie Barbarino (John Travolta) Jan and Dean, Martin Circus, Elements of Life and ApolegetiX.

Nemophila was having fun with it and it made me smile. That's a winner in my book.

I like your take on the song. I love this song not for the song really but because the ladies are having so much fun and it puts a smile on my face.

Very serious band.
Dude lighten up it was just a fun song for them to do. People need to get over yourselves on social media. It's a big turn off.
Well like I've always said, if you don't like what I do or how I do it, then don't watch. Really simple.
We fans enjoy this song and it's a lot of fun...it's not meant to be anything more than that...thanks for supporting Nemo!
I love ❤️ NEMOPHILA!!!! Especially Haraguchi-san!!! They do a lot of cover songs love their cover songs 😊🤘
