You know how at the supermarket they put the milk and eggs at the furtherest point from the door? Costco should do the same with the Pokemon. Maybe set up hurdles and traps along the way to impede the mob. Then when they get to the register hit them with, "Sorry, limit of one per customer per day, we'll just take these off your hands and put them out later." just to watch them cry.

Scalpers get around this by just paying multiple different people to buy the products for them, and going to as many different stores as possible. My target had a ONE per person policy back in 2022. It was still empty 99.9% of the time cause of scalpers.

My local comic book store sells these types of boxes and the owner who runs it has a strict policy of one per customer, though if someone is a known collector or a regular parent that he knows is getting for their kids he makes exceptions.
If someone is obviously a scalper he just permabans them from his store outright, the dude has a wall of shame that’s been tripled in size since the quarantine caused a scalp-splosion in the trading card scene.

Not a Pokémon collector myself, but an action figure collector. A few years ago, Target had there own exclusives of Star Wars: The Clone Wars figures, my dad was kind enough to go a Target that was a little farther from where we lived because it was confirmed they were there. Thankfully, our Target at least, knew the value of these figures and put them behind the customer help desk and also limited each customer to two copies of the same character. Scalping has always been such a pain in any collector’s rear end and this just makes me so sad for actual Pokémon collectors. I understand how this feels and it makes me so mad.

Good on you though for using the crappy situation as an opportunity to talk about how there are entitled people out there that only care about themselves and how people like that take advantage of the demand for a product just to make money (though I'm sure none of that is going to help him really feel better as to why he couldn't get the Pokemon cards he's been wanting, and that's totally understandable, it's just at least good to have that conversation anyways). And it's very good that you talked about how important it is not to become that type of person (because if you think about it, entitlement and selfishness is the root cause of just about every wrongdoing ever done by one person to another person). This is why Japan works on a lottery system.
Scalpers here are terrible. Whether it's pokemon, concert tickets, etc.,
Japan tends to hold a lottery where people are randomly chosen to have a chance to buy the said product. And even then they're limited to 1-2 products.
It's annoying, but this new pokemon drop sort of showed me why they do what they do.
One shop even put a sign that says they will only sell the Terra Festa Pokemon Box to kids. (But you know some scalpers probably sent their kids in)
These guys are the worst, and this probably has be on of the worst scalper brawls I've seen yet.

@@DrawinskyMoonPerhaps, but at least SOME regular consumers and children get to buy it, as opposed to the system we have here where FEW to NO regular consumers get it.
Although, I hate to break it, but such systems aren't going to happen in America. Walmart Target and other big box retail stores don't care about consumers because even if every Pokémon fan stops shopping there, there are enough regular people who will go for groceries and such. So why waste the time implementing a system for a minority of shoppers? I could see it happen with specialty shops, but the only nation wide TCG store I know is some specific GameStop's and they're desperate for money. They're not going to risk losing scalper dollars for goodwill.

There were 11 ETBs and 10 people waiting, so we all got really lucky, especially considering it wasn’t super early in the day. I went yesterday with my friend to our local card shop an hour before they opened, since they said they would be getting in a good bit of stock for Prismatic Evolutions. There were only 4 people ahead of us, and right before they opened, the line turned into I'd guess around 40 people. The store has a 1 of each item limit, and I spoke to a few people in front and behind us and everyone was incredibly nice. Some had gotten into it recently because they liked doing it with their kids, some just enjoy the chase of a certain card they wanted, and one lady said she hadn't gotten anything since the 90's and wanted to jump back in, and I explained some of the new cards to her. I got exactly what I wanted and most people did too.
Idk I just had a really nice time, and wanted to describe my positive experience since as of late the worst of the community has really been making the rounds. My experience is how I think most of the genuine fans are, but I think most people know that already. People who use them as an investment and don't actually even enjoy Pokémon really ruin things. As the Twitter TCG account posted, hopefully the increase in prints and newness wears off, and some things can return to normal!

As someone who is a serious collector when it comes to Pokemon. this is a serious problem those who actually want the product to enjoy can’t get it without way overpaying, and trust me so many kids literally couldn’t get any for Christmas. which is so sad when I was a kid that’s all I wanted and it’s just to expensive for at this point for people who are not like well off. I’ve been collecting my whole life but in the last few years started putting real money into it and it’s crazy how much it costs to even be a casual collector.

Here's why I personally think there's nothing wrong with scalping:
It is a relatively harmless hustle that doesn't directly affect anybody. Scalping isn't morally wrong because scalping itself isn't causing any problems. Stores naturally run out of stock whether it's due to a scalper, or regular costumer both lead the the inability to obtain certain goods(if you cant afford it). Using "it prevents others from getting it" makes zero sense. If a regular customer buys something, someone else can't get it if you are scalping, another person is still able to obtain the item. They just need to pay more money.

My favorite part was when they horded toilet paper and hand sanitizer, but a few weeks into Covid supplies of those items returned to normal and they were stuck with garages full of the stuff. Even better, was when one tried to return it to Walmart, and they said nope.

Increasing the supply will help to some degree. Maybe people get it from the store and don't buy from them, whether or not they buy more. It depends, but supply helps sometimes. Example: scalpers who bought PS5 Pros to flip had trouble selling them because the supply was actually enough to meet demand, so they had to keep the lowering their prices until they were taking losses just to get rid of them
