Real comment - This movie, for me, began a 25 year quest to find answers that to this day I have not found. I went to movies, read books, and visited museums. It took me many years and finally ended with me standing in front of the crematoriums in the concentration camp of Dachau, where over 40 thousand people were murdered. I realized that at least for me, I wasn't going to find the answers to the questions I had been asking and asking, because at the core of all of them was really only one word: WHY. I will never understand that, and that's going to stay with me my entire life, I think. Anyhow, here's some answers to the questions you were asking (and I'll edit those in as they come) and some trivia about the film as well as the actual historical period. (your audio is still a bit wonky) QUESTIONS 1.) The object removed from the doorframe is called a mezuzah. A little box containing a prayer for the house and those within it. 2.) The trains that Schindler went to pull Stern from had he "Who knows where" destination of Treblinka and/or Belzec, death camps both in Poland. (A death camp is different from a concentration camp. At a concentration camp, there were labor details for just about everyone there and were much, much larger, as they could sell the Jews labor for whatever corporation wanted them. A death camp was much smaller (at the beginning of the war anyway. Auschwitz was later converted from a work camp to a death camp near the end of the war, as the nazi's efforts to cover up their activities before the rest of the world could put them on display rapidly accelerated) Almost every single person who arrived at Treblinka or Belzec were unloaded from the train, stripped of their belongings, led to the gas chambers where they were stripped of their clothing, hair, and anything else they were still carrying, and immediately executed. 3.) At that time, it was....."normal"....for businessmen to have a mistress on the side. Not condoning it, that's just the way it was. 4.) Why did you watch this film? Because you are human. Humans are walking examples of duality. Some look at the bright golden head of a dandelion and find it beautiful. They can recognize its overall culinary and medicinal usefulness. Their bright yellow heads can be used in soups, made into jelly or wine. The leaves can be used in salads, pestos, and cooked with meat or potatoes to add a sharper flavor. The roots can be fried and eaten plain or with other vegetables, or simply eaten raw like carrots. They can be boiled and added to salves and tinctures and teas. They're packed with antioxidants, potassium and vitamins A and C. Other people look at the dandelion and see only a weed that has no place in their perfect lawn. 5.) As of a 2022 census, there are now over 12,000 descendants of the Schindlerjuden. 6.) The man politely asking the women how old they were in the Auschwitz scene is the (unnamed in the script) Dr. Josef Mengele and that's...all I'm going to say about him. 7.) The shower scene at Auschwitz was so upsetting for some of the actresses that filming had to be stopped for 3 days. 8.) Spielberg was given permission to film inside of Auschwitz but in the end, elected not to. Instead, he built mirror sets outside the gates. 9.) The real Mila Pfferberg (sp??) was so traumatized by Ralph Fiennes' spot-on portrayal of Amon Goethe that she had a panic attack and began shaking. He dropped character immediately. 10.) Doubtless, this movie probably left you discombobulated for a few days. So here is a different recommendation of a war film that will make you just as emotional, but for the exact opposite reasons this one did. Hacksaw Ridge, 2016, starring Andrew Garfield.
25 years wow that's a long time, I think that this is just one of those horrors that everyone just wishes never happened, and may all those poor souls rest in peace. I do wish to go to some of the historical sights at some point. Why; I guess that if you spent 25 years looking and found no answer the only thing that could remain is the simple fact that they was monsters. And thank you for the all answered questions and the trivia, I enjoyed reading through it all thank you so much x
Hacksaw Ridge 2016, cool that will be my next war film, I will be able do that around the beginning of next year, as I will have Prime included in my next phone contract when I can renew it x
I liked your pure unsensationalized reaction very much, Mia. You have to know Steven Spielberg even downplayed Amon Goeths evilness. He thought no one would believe that level of evil in the cinema. I am no jew but Schindler really is my role model. Lets face it, i wouldn't have been that brave. My austrian grandparents told me many stories about denounciation by fellow germans/austrians in the third reich. Many who helped jews were sent straight to the russian frontlines. The movie line at the end of the movie "Who saves one life saves the world entire" really gets me every time.
@@Marcus_Berger1701 Thank you 🥰🥰, this film was a lot to take in, I had the jest of what happened but seeing it on film was something else. I dread to think what his true evilness would’ve looked like on screen, would’ve probably turned the film into a horror movie. I hadn’t heard of Schindler before this movie and had no idea what to think of him at the start but to see what he did to save the amount that he did is truly amazing, such a true real life hero. God I can see why Schindler acted the way he did about people finding out that he is helping Jews, with the fear of getting sent to the front lines. That sure is a powerful line x
Thank you for the feedback. I am still learning what I can and can’t get away with RUclips’s stick copyright policies. I’m having a re-upload nearly everything due to copyright and that’s one of the things I found that helps get around it, if you have any suggestions of what could help with this issue, I am completely open to suggestions? X
The audio in your intro is so faint, I could barely hear it even with my computer volume, speaker volume, and video volume at 100 so you might want to check that.
