Worked for me. All my low back and leg pain gone since this surgery. In my case the surgery was necessary and gave me back some quality of life. I am concerned about possible future adjacent disc disease, but I’ll cross that bridge if I get it. I did do all exercises and lots of walking that helped with my recovery, which is essential after spinal fusion surgery.

Just had L4-5 fusion and had immediate relief. No more sciatica in both legs. No more pain in my back from simply standing. I plan to be careful to prevent the adjacent vertebrae from getting damaged. This was a great relief!

Great video. I wish my mother would have had this info as I headed under the knife. Idiopathic Scoliosis, 55 degree curve, T2-T11 fusion, Harrington Rod with Milwaukee Brace. I feel blessed to not have body cast but sure wish the advancements would have come earlier for me. Perfect fusion, no issues 32 years later. I am incredibly thankful for the work you and your peers provide scoliosis patients.

Thank you for this presentation. After a year of dealing with spinal stenosis in lumbar spine and being hardly able to walk because of neurogenic claudication, and after doing more than 75 session of PT and having several spinal injections, I am ready to get my life back. Your explanation was so calm and clear and gives me a more positive outlook about the surgery I will have. New MRI scheduled in two weeks and then the surgeon will give me specifics on what he recommends. No one wants to have surgery.... but if this can give me the ability to walk again I am ready. I'm 71 years young, otherwise healthy, and I want to enjoy my retirement years!!

Is fusion the ONLY way to ( cure) a spondylolisthesis? Not just treat symptoms? Can it be pulled back into place? Or is fusion the ONLY way to restore proper positioning?
I had a rare injury where the spondylolisthesis was caused by a direct impact on my coxyx 😦. I figure if it can be slammed out of shape, maybe it can be pulled back into position via traction/decompression machines.🤷

When I was younger I was diagnosed with minor scheurmanns disease but I was very active and had a normal life. You could barely see the curve. In 2017 I was introduced to Dr Lenke in New York through a friend from business school. I met with Dr Lenke twice before the surgery, he said "everything I could do before I could do after." The sirgery didnt seem like a big deal and I had another friend who got the surgery and said he was fine. I was very busy and was living alone at the time so I just trusted Dr Lenke and agreed to the surgery. In the end they put 26 screws in my spine and fused 13 levels from the base of my back to where my neck starts. When I woke up from the surgery I felt actually positive because I noticed I could breathe a bit better. However as time went on I realized more what they had done. I remember trying to get in a uber after the surgery and not being able too because I could not bend my torso at all, I started to cry and panic is this really what its going to be like? I tried to stay positive for the first little bit, my first two years post surgery were actually ok but I found I felt weaker and weaker, life just took too much energy to get through a day with a caged torso. I found everything hard, dating, work, relationships. I started declining until the depression of being fused really set in. I stayed in bed for longer and longer until I was basically bedridden. I became scared ofeverything because it always seemed to end badly. If i went to a meeting people would comment on my strange posture, if i played golf i would get tired and have to leave early, if i went on a date she would want to cuddle but the angle would be uncomfortable. I have essentially at the point resigned to a life of seclusion. Its really a shame because I was doing so well up until then. I hope someone out there reads this and decides that their body is beautiful just the way it is and does not do this surgery. If you have pain please try and seek alternative solutions. Perhaps fusion is ok if its on one or two levels, but on 13 levels it essentially removes most of your biomechanics.

I have degenerative disc at level
l3/l4 its mild to moderate. I have to give up my job because I do manual labor and my pain comes and goes. I just feel like it's inevitable that I'm gonna need some type of surgery. My job gives me great insurance and if I stop I'll be left without insurance. Should I just continue and destroy the rest of the disc so I have insurance and then hopefully get a fusion or what. You say it can't heal am I just avoiding the inevitable. Should I just continue to work and just finish the job of the disc. Then hope for the fusion. I'm only 29 and idk what to do. I feel my life is pretty much ruined. I've always been very athletic and now I do very little physical activity. Pt has helped my back but I just feel it's avoiding the inevitable. Thankfully I'm in a union so the job will always be there but just I feel like im in limbo just waiting. At this point I don't see a bright future like I once did. I just see a future fusion.
