You my dear are a life saver. I am sewing a shirt for my son and i havent made a garment since 4H 40 yrs ago. He is 30 and i know he is going to be so astonished that i sewed a shirt for him that i know he will be buying material for me. I opted for an 8 dollar pattern instead of a 20 dollar pattern and its ridiculously hard to understand. I have the shirt ready except for the collar, and it had had me stumped because there is no collar band! Ive already sewn the lapel so ill rip the stiches and open the neck edge of of it and do it this way. You have helped me figure out what to do soooo much. I have the sleeves on and was down to collar and button holes and its been hanging and ive read and reread the instructions to no revelation. You have completely clarified what to do and i am sooo thankful. Seriously you have been an angel for me. I am making another and i will not sew on sleeves or close side seams and do it this way! Again, thankyou!

I believe this is the most comprehensive tutorial I seen. You have seem to have ALL the elements organized and easily understood! It is difficult for the very experienced sewer, like you, to remember to include basic terms. Once it has become intuitive for you, it's hard to remember that basic sewing techniques are all new/foreign to the beginner. KODOS to you and many thanks for sharing your expertise!

Thank you so much for this! I have spent a whole day struggling/stressing out trying to understand a pattern I have, and watching so many different tutorials and finding them incredibly hard to follow. I have finally found this tutorial the day after and it is so clear to follow. Using different coloured fabrics and thread really helped to explain each step, I have dyslexia so learning new things and following instructions can sometimes be a real challenge but this tutorial was very friendly towards learning difficulties. Thank you again.

Thank you so much. Your video and instructions were very clear and were exactly what I needed. I've dismantled a garment that was made by someone else to use as a pattern so I don't have any instructions to work from. Its been a while since I've done collars and couldn't quiet remember how to sew it in. All the other videos I viewed previously showed how to draft a pattern (which was complicated) or used a back facing. This is exactly what I needed. I've liked, subscribed and will be watching your other videos. Keep up the excellent work.

Thank you so much for this video which helped me attach the collar in a simple and easy way. I subscribed to your channel and joined your Facebook page. I'm going to check if you have a video on how to fully line the jacket I am making.

I was aware of the importance of under-stitching, but for some reason, I've been doing it from the right side of the fabric on the facing. I have yest to test for the difference - if any - in result when doing it from the wrong side of the fabric as Glenda has done. Time to experiment.

Your videos are superb! They really are! Please, do you have one that explains how much fabric you need to allow for gathering. E.g. when you are using a gathering foot because they gather at a set rate. If you were gathering it and spreading the gathers to meet a smooth band or bodice yourself it would be fine (although it would be good to know what fabric difference of the gathered part to the smooth part would look best) but with a gathering foot it pulls it all together and stitches as it goes. How do you know what will make the gathered part meet up right to the end with the smooth part? Is that a muddly question? Do you know what I mean? I would really appreciate knowing because I want to make my daughter a 50s tea dress. I am so nervous of using the gathering foot and finding it has gathered the entire skirt part before getting right to the end of the straight part. I have a lot to learn I know but I really want to learn. :)
