    Ok…..I finally tackled this. First I tried the roll over of the vinyl -I didn’t like the result. I think this would require a lot of practice to perfect it. I saw this rollover method recently from another bag maker.
    THEN I tried your method using the waterproof canvas. I love it! I ran 2 tests…..1st with cotton inside and 2nd with nylon or poly. The 2nd was less bulky and my stitching was to die for. Thanks again for the inspiration and for sharing. 🌹

      There are some sewists that do a pretty great job of this with cotton, but I'm not sewing many cotton bags as for me....cotton straps get dirty so quickly! This was a great option once I saw it on the Tommy Bahama belt! I am looking forward to doing this with leather!

    newbie question. why doesn't your vinyl top piece have a white edge that you need to hide? thank you for your tutorial. Very nice.

    • @SandcastleDesigns
      @SandcastleDesigns  Год назад +1

      This vinyl doesn't have white backing.It's upholstery vinyl. The backing is dark..so the sides are not white. You can always paint the sides if necessary.

    Would like to see how to do tabs on straps. These turned out so good. How would you make a crossbody strap like this? Would it be too stiff for the slide adjuster? Thank you! Love your videos

    • @SandcastleDesigns
      @SandcastleDesigns  3 года назад

      You can purchase thinner webbing and I would say use cotton or thinner rip stop for your larger under piece! I will try this and share! I am getting ready to make a crossbody soon! I have owned cross body bags made with webbing straps, so it's a matter of how thin the material you cover them with. I would not choose a thick fabric to line the webbing, and definitely choose one of the thin webbings available! So many options!

  • @BellaBagsPDX

    Love this method! I notice that you didn’t say anything about the edges of your top piece. Probably because the backing is dark? What would you recommend doing when the backing is white or lighter than the front? Sometimes I’ve been able to just paint the edges with a black Sharpie pen. Do you think it would work here? Thanks again!!

    • @SandcastleDesigns
      @SandcastleDesigns  3 года назад

      Peg! You are correct! This vinyl is also so thin you do not see the edges when sewn in this method. Remember the belt I show you in the beginning? Same story! If you sew close enough to the edge, you really do not see it. If you do however have an edge that is a contrasting color, I would edge paint it prior to sewing it. Great question. 💕

    Hi, if I’m using cork for my outer fabric, would I still need to add the webbing?

    • @SandcastleDesigns

      You could use grosgrain ribbon instead. Its not as thick but still gives added stability. Thanks Linda!

    • @SandcastleDesigns

      I'm not sure there would be enough space, I think you would miss the mark on the topstitching and go off that edge, but you should play with it! I haven't experimented with it at all! I will though!

      Thanks Jennifer answer to the first question is no I am staying close to that edge on both machines, so I am going in opposite directions on each side. The foot I am using on the 2010 is called the 1/8 inch hinged zipper foot and it came with my machine. jukijunkies.com/product/hinged-zipper-foot-2-5mm/ here is the link!
