Idk about you guys, but have you seent the unreleased Cream colorway of the Off-White x Jordan 5 Retro? It is straight FIRE! Wasn’t much of a fan with the black or “Muslin” colorway. But these just hit different
Doom Gang those are literally my fav “forced vintage” pair but I think I’m biased kause bein born and raised out in LA I use to go to Union all the time I would ditch school hop on the 212 and head straight to my fav 3 stores ! UNION,STUSSY, & UNDEFEATED!!! Man I miss those days !!
Thank you for pointing out that these aren't the REAL fire red 5s! I prefer those ones but I'm excited to get these in.
Making things exactly the same over time is so, so difficult. I never had the OGs but from what I've been reading and seeing online it looks like they did a pretty damn good job.
The fact that there was so many inconsistencies on the 89 pairs means no one will be happy

Now this is what I call a comparison! Do you think you could do this more often with OG colorway retros? like with the Flint XIII and Fire Red IV coming later this year? You could get OG/First retro pairs from other people to use if you dont own them.

Christmas 91 , 6's were out...these were still on shelves discounted at Andacona K. Being a family with not much$ these were the jam! I was 10.

Definitely copping! I believe the 2020 version looks much better, not just because the older pair is... well old, but the new version does appear to be remastered in a good way. I don't believe it's highly important to make a near identical version of the original for the general public. Maybe for vintage lovers but I believe improving materials, cushion and astetics in general is what's best for the average consumer.

The red on the 2020 is darker than the 99 pair,the black on the midsole is more matte on the 99 also.

OG all the way. Just look at the class in it. Both shoes have pros and cons. I prefer the OG.
Got mine a few weeks ago from Footlocker Australia and they sat for 24 hours before being sold out so I think it shouldn't be too hard to cop. Leather is really soft and creased on the toe box immediately. I think it adds character so I don't mind.
I am 46 and had em all I dislike the silver and the puffyness I think the og like I played in was slimmer for that reason because people played ball in them should break out the scale and weigh them
And the original air jordan tag on the inside of the tongue was originally upside down so when you flipped the tongue down it was right side up
damn... I only heard "fire red" this and that, I didn't know they dropped the silver tongue joints..... definitely copping sometime this year

This pair is closer to the 1989 pair not the 99 pair... in 89 the air Jordan was upside down and the padding was thicker

I don’t understand why they used that shiny tongue and shinier leather on this. I just got the Golf AJ 5s and the tongue isn’t shiny like that, nor is the leather. Maybe you should do a quick comparison to the golf cleat. Check it out.

Looking at a mjo black 5 comparison to the ogz vs 2016 I think the 99 versions look closer to the ogz!

My first retro / 5 , I hit on snkrs ! But I saw that they were sitting? So I copped another pair on Champs, I don’t know if it was errors and they’re going to refund me? But I saw on Eastbay, Footaction and Locker, Champs, and Finishline that they’re still sitting at first.

This colourway the name tag was originally the right way round the black ones were upside down like the recent retros. Think the OG grapes were upside to

Waiting on my pair to get here. I noticed the piece of leather at the front of the shoe that sits in front of your toes is positioned differently and further back and it’s taller. Do you call it the toe box? I wish they went with the exact same colors as the 99 pair.

How old a shoe gotta be for you to avoid wearing? There’s this used Raging Bull 5’s , used (8/10 condition) and I’m so hesitant to get it cause it’s an 11 year old shoe
It all depends on the person if they want to keep it nice looking and use them as a display piece. For me, I still rock the OG CG4s that released I think 2004?. Paint on the midsole is all cracked and the bubble is all foggy, but I don't mind. I ended up liking how the wear and tear looks, especially on the cement 3s and 4s that I have.

Leather won't dry out, as long as you take care of it. Last super long ass time....why are the best boots made of leather?
We’re talking about sneakers. Most people don’t polish and care for the leather on their sneakers because it’s a purchase you use and abuse them discard for a new pair. So, the leather can dry out over time.
No they are not the whole shape us off. I grew up with the OG and the 1999 is the closest thing to the OG. 2020 toe box is terrible, the shoe is to high up and they are not low to the ground and the tounge is to thick , OG pairs tounge was thin The quality is awful just like previous pairs that retro.

I had the Grape 5s. I was 13. $120 or so from Foot Locker. Wore those things OUT over the next three years or so. God, I loved those shoes.

If memory serves me correctly, the 2020s are closer to the OGs. I had an OG black pair, and remember an oversized and almost "puffy" reflective tongue and lots of ankle padding. I also remember all outsole and mesh turning yellow like crazy fast. Maybe they should bring that back too for the full OG experience.

Depends on the colorway. For some reason the fire reds always look a bit too yellow. But the Black metallics and the Black Tongues look amazing aged

I was 10 years old when the 5's came out...went to the mall to get the white cement 4s with my dad, store no longer had any in stock, so they handed me the new pair of jordans, the "fire red" 5s. I like the white cement 4's better and got them when I got older, but I always appreceiated the 5's. I appreciate the memories I have of wearing them in middle school even more.
I had the og fire red 5s and fire red 4s. Wanted the white cement 4s but they were sold out and got the fire reds 4s instead. Then got the fire red 5s but soon after i wished i wouldve gotten the black 5s. The black cement 3s were the first pair of jordans i ever seen in person. My best friend got them. I was 11 years old and my mind was blown on how dope they were.
The yellowing is beautiful
My pair gets home tomorrow...never owned any older versions so this will be my favorite version.

This shoe literally takes me back to my freshman year of high school. By far my favorite Jordan of all time. I ordered mine yesterday which will be the first time owning this version. Parents wouldn't let me have any Jordans because they thought they were too expensive back in the 80's lol. They definitely were not $200 back then.

So i have an unpopular opinion. I do not find these shoes appealing at all. They are extremely regular for me. I do not have that nostalgia aspect involved with this shoe, so perhaps that's the reason. And believe me...i tried liking this shoe. Tried making myself like it. Come on...its Jordan!! Like them!! But nope...i can't. And that's ok. Im not saying people shouldn't like these shoes, shoes are subjective. I really wanted to like these. I do appreciate the style though and the concept that went into composing this silhouette. Love the idea...just not the product. Anyway... To all those coping...good luck and hope you purchase them.

You asked which was closest to the OG's of 1990, the 1999 retro or the 2020 retro. I don't have the 2020 retros yet but I have the OGs that I bought in 1990 and I had the 1999's. I have researched the 2020's and this is my opinion. The 2020s are the most similar to the OG's. It is indeed off putting that almost in every case of the retros they almost always get worse each time they retro it. It lets me know that money, greed, and profit are more important than giving the costumer, that dishes out anywhere from $150 to $220 retail for the sneaker and probably has for many many years, a quality product. It's disgusting. I had stopped buying the retros a few years back because of what I just said here. They got worse every new one. I have recently in the past couple of years gradually began buying a pair here and there because I say that they were starting to improve, not too much at once, on the quality.

I'm all for coveting the 1998-2001 AJ retros as some of the best - because they are.
It's hard to decide what features are _right_ or _wrong_ when they are both simply modern interpretations of an original design.

@@weez231 I'm a true 10.5 and my pair is 10.5. They fit perfectly - good room in the toebox without swimming. Sizing is hard to determine for others, though so I hope the advice helps.

That was the “OG”/remastered version. Hopefully we get a new remastered pair though.

On the 1999-2000 pair looks like Jordan is wearing a cap on the Jordan tongue. As far as the 3m reflective. It’s the same on both pairs. The reason they went metallic silver on the tongue on the new version is cause it won’t wrinkle or be creased as compare to the 99-2000 pair tongue. 👍🏼
Best shoe of the year! Material is amazing, the shoe keeps it shape very well. Been flexin them for months now, still get complements every time.
All most all of the OG shoe making lasts have been auctioned off or sold by Nike so any shoe that is made now has a new Last. That’s why the shoe is bigger now days... the last is not the same as it was back in 1980’s & 1990’s. The new last was probably made by someone looking at photos and doing the best they can. Day of release 7th grade 1990. Almost got Bo Jackson’s instead. Went to school Monday. Shut shit down lol. Kids will never understand. Was like driving a Lamborghini into the gym. Don’t really wear Jordan’s but copped these outta nostalgia (42 yrs old now)
