Idk about you guys, but have you seent the unreleased Cream colorway of the Off-White x Jordan 5 Retro? It is straight FIRE! Wasn’t much of a fan with the black or “Muslin” colorway. But these just hit different
Doom Gang those are literally my fav “forced vintage” pair but I think I’m biased kause bein born and raised out in LA I use to go to Union all the time I would ditch school hop on the 212 and head straight to my fav 3 stores ! UNION,STUSSY, & UNDEFEATED!!! Man I miss those days !!

If memory serves me correctly, the 2020s are closer to the OGs. I had an OG black pair, and remember an oversized and almost "puffy" reflective tongue and lots of ankle padding. I also remember all outsole and mesh turning yellow like crazy fast. Maybe they should bring that back too for the full OG experience.

I was 10 years old when the 5's came out...went to the mall to get the white cement 4s with my dad, store no longer had any in stock, so they handed me the new pair of jordans, the "fire red" 5s. I like the white cement 4's better and got them when I got older, but I always appreceiated the 5's. I appreciate the memories I have of wearing them in middle school even more.
I had the og fire red 5s and fire red 4s. Wanted the white cement 4s but they were sold out and got the fire reds 4s instead. Then got the fire red 5s but soon after i wished i wouldve gotten the black 5s. The black cement 3s were the first pair of jordans i ever seen in person. My best friend got them. I was 11 years old and my mind was blown on how dope they were.
These OG Jordan 5's made the cover of Sports Illustrated ("Your Sneakers or Your Life", 5/14/90), where they discussed the tragic story of how kids were being mugged, even killed. 🥺

I had the Grape 5s. I was 13. $120 or so from Foot Locker. Wore those things OUT over the next three years or so. God, I loved those shoes.

This shoe literally takes me back to my freshman year of high school. By far my favorite Jordan of all time. I ordered mine yesterday which will be the first time owning this version. Parents wouldn't let me have any Jordans because they thought they were too expensive back in the 80's lol. They definitely were not $200 back then.

I always thought there were two fire reds one was called the fire red white with the silver tongue and the other was also called a fire red black with the black tongue and your review just confirmed it thank you.

Making things exactly the same over time is so, so difficult. I never had the OGs but from what I've been reading and seeing online it looks like they did a pretty damn good job.

The newer version has the taller tongue like the original.
My pair gets home tomorrow...never owned any older versions so this will be my favorite version.

Now this is what I call a comparison! Do you think you could do this more often with OG colorway retros? like with the Flint XIII and Fire Red IV coming later this year? You could get OG/First retro pairs from other people to use if you dont own them.
If we can get ahold of them then we can. Chris has gotten rid of a lot of his older shoes so we’d have to borrow them.

I just decided to double up on these. I've had a pair since they came out I've been wearing, and love them so much. When I saw they restocked my size online, I had to get a pair to stock. I love this shoe.

I was 3yo when the first retro of AJ 5 ‘Fire Red’ came out 😭 BUT definitely remember almost everyone having the ones following... I’ve always admired the style and the stories behind each pair of Jordan’s! I could not afford them back then but bought my first pair a few years back🔥 I’m hoping to cop these 2020 versions as my first pair of 5’s.

Great video guys! I was 19 when the original pair came out and the leather was so premium and buttery soft that I used to get scared balling in them because they scuffed very easily but they were beautiful shoes though. The tongue, sides and insoles were padded pretty nicely for a snug fit. Can't really remember about the size of the brand on the back of the shoe but I like the look of the larger size more. If I remember, the inside tag on the tongue was upside down. The 3M on the tongue and the clear part of the sole were some of my favorite things about them. Absolutely one of my favorite Jordans of all time!!

I used to have 1999 pair and they r mad comfortable after breaking in. The traction is solid too while hooping outdoor. Never regretted getting this pair :)

Depends on the colorway. For some reason the fire reds always look a bit too yellow. But the Black metallics and the Black Tongues look amazing aged

The yellowing is beautiful
I noticed this with jordan 1s and 3s too that the lining in all of the retros have always been a lot puffier and they prob did that for comfort because most people like it more, but i really hope they thin out the padding to all retros because i think that would go a long way with making just the overall shap and look on feet alot more original and just better.
I copped, had to 5's are my thing. These are way better than the last version, love them.

These look great and were the first Js that I really wanted to own as a kid. Looks like they did the OGs justice.
Bro ive been noticing all the shoes we bought from the mid late 90's thru the 2000's all say a part of the proceeds will be used by Jordan for Educational Initiatives. Its fucking awesome to see that and now a days you look at how many high school and college sports teams are sponsored by jordan.
But yea these are truly a classic. Got a pair thats barely worrn and already planning to purchase my

thank you for clearing up that Fire Red nickname controversy, I knew those weren't the Fire Reds. Fire Reds are the ones with the white upper and more red bottom those only have a splash.

All most all of the OG shoe making lasts have been auctioned off or sold by Nike so any shoe that is made now has a new Last. That’s why the shoe is bigger now days... the last is not the same as it was back in 1980’s & 1990’s. The new last was probably made by someone looking at photos and doing the best they can. I used to hate the yellowing on the soles, netting, etc...too but since that Off-White 5 came out it's grown on me.
Crazy I wore original 5s my 1st or 2nd year of HS hoops in 90/91. Was my teammates. Who knew then that the kicks game would come to this??? Was in the throes of his 1st championship vs Lakers (I was Magic ALL THE WAY) and it was the old Jordans by then. Still looked the best to me back then.

Definitely copping! I believe the 2020 version looks much better, not just because the older pair is... well old, but the new version does appear to be remastered in a good way. I don't believe it's highly important to make a near identical version of the original for the general public. Maybe for vintage lovers but I believe improving materials, cushion and astetics in general is what's best for the average consumer.
I'm all for coveting the 1998-2001 AJ retros as some of the best - because they are.
It's hard to decide what features are _right_ or _wrong_ when they are both simply modern interpretations of an original design.
I'd love to see a three-way comparison with the 1990 OG.
I really like my 2020 pair. Very sleek compared to the clunky 2016 black metallic.

@@weez231 I'm a true 10.5 and my pair is 10.5. They fit perfectly - good room in the toebox without swimming. Sizing is hard to determine for others, though so I hope the advice helps.

I had the original pair in 1990. I can say the original are really true to size. With the newer pair you can go down half and size and they fit fine.
The 2020 pair has quite a few similarities with the OG release which is a definite plus to see.Looking forward to getting a pair this weekend.

So i have an unpopular opinion. I do not find these shoes appealing at all. They are extremely regular for me. I do not have that nostalgia aspect involved with this shoe, so perhaps that's the reason. And believe me...i tried liking this shoe. Tried making myself like it. Come on...its Jordan!! Like them!! But nope...i can't. And that's ok. Im not saying people shouldn't like these shoes, shoes are subjective. I really wanted to like these. I do appreciate the style though and the concept that went into composing this silhouette. Love the idea...just not the product. Anyway... To all those coping...good luck and hope you purchase them.

I tried to restore my 1999 pair and I ruined them. The midsole crumbled and stitching on the toe unraveled. Lol! I think the 1999 version looks closer to the originals. Great video!

Christmas 91 , 6's were out...these were still on shelves discounted at Andacona K. Being a family with not much$ these were the jam! I was 10.

The yellowing happens because of poor conditions. I’ve seen The Black infrared six witch Retro in 2000. And the sole was still perfect. This was couple years ago.

Day of release 7th grade 1990. Almost got Bo Jackson’s instead. Went to school Monday. Shut shit down lol. Kids will never understand. Was like driving a Lamborghini into the gym. Don’t really wear Jordan’s but copped these outta nostalgia (42 yrs old now)
I owned the original's in 1990 and the tongue was like that on the 1999 pair, one thing they messed up on the 1999/2000 pair is the nike air logo on the back of the shoe was bigger so the 2020 pair is identical in that reguard. The only thing that is different on all the jordan 5's is the shark's teeth was never as sharp as it is on every retro of the 5. I love the 2020 fire red's...i thought they nailed it.

On the 1999-2000 pair looks like Jordan is wearing a cap on the Jordan tongue. As far as the 3m reflective. It’s the same on both pairs. The reason they went metallic silver on the tongue on the new version is cause it won’t wrinkle or be creased as compare to the 99-2000 pair tongue. 👍🏼
Got mine a few weeks ago from Footlocker Australia and they sat for 24 hours before being sold out so I think it shouldn't be too hard to cop. Leather is really soft and creased on the toe box immediately. I think it adds character so I don't mind.
The Air Jordan V and that translucent sole is what started my love affair with sneakers.

As for the tongue, I think the first retro is much closer to OG, especially the 3M material having a matte grey appearance. The 2020’s tongue look awful imo. Need to see if I still have those originals in tucked away 🤞🏼...

They need to bring back the black LEATHER 4’s. They can keep the soft leather.
I prefer the bigger 5’s. That’s a big reason why I wasn’t a fan of the OW since they made the tongue super thin
Unfortunately, 48yrs old here. Had them in 90 91, side by side your 99 retro has a better look, slim and shapely, but i remember big tounges sticking out all over the place back then, i guess we need a original to really compare. Like the 99 3m better too.
I had the original 1989 Jordan V Fire Red which was my first pair of Jordan's whilst I also worked in a sports store at the time. What I recall was the upper was a synthetic Durabuck material that didn't wear very well, the swoosh on the heel was small much like the 1999 retro and the tongue was definitely the matt finish also like the 1999 retro. The other thing I don't remember the sole being icey blue. The 1999 looks much more like the original 1989
