It's an awesome method isn't it? I started seeds last Saturday and my broc, cauliflower, Bok Choi, and Spinach have all come up. My Cabbage has 1 out of like 16 and my onions haven't come up yet. But the amount that have germinated in such a short time is awesome!
Pro tip, if you crease the seed pack down the center, the seeds will ride the crease and fall out in singles or smaller numbers as opposed to just dumping out in large numbers.
I have already winter speed some veggies a week ago. I will be adding some flowers to my garden this year, so will be winter sowing those today. Thanks for the video! ❤🌱
Last year I grew Alyssum, and it did fantastic. It kept going until the temperature dipped down below 23F. I had zero luck with Straw Flower. Not a single seed sprouted. Chicory, dill, basil, rosemary, parsley, peppermint, spearmint, oregano, comfrey, and cilantro did very well. All but the basil, dill, and cilantro are still growing. Goji berries, yarrow, and catnip don't like my soil, and died off after transplanting into my herb mound/garden. They do okay potted, or in growbags, with loamy soil or potting mix. I haven' t had any luck with lavender. Rather than trying to force the herbs and flowers that don't grow for me to grow, I'll pick and choose different varieties that I haven't tried, and stick with the ones that do grow good. I just got Net Zero back from editing, and am getting it ready for release. I started writing Net Zero in the Wild Wild West, and am plotting the next serial, Net Zero Star Crossed. I need more time to get everything I want to do, done. Next on my to do list is finding a way to slow the Earth's rotation to twelve degrees of rotation per hour. Do you think anyone will notice, or complain, if the days are a little longer? Say about thirty hours?
@@sandybottomhomesteadI know to stay away from Black Walnut near other fruit trees as it can cause problems with those. Just make sure you look into that before selecting.
Cold stratification and nipple pasties who knew lol 😂🤪😳 Cold stratification was never in my wheel house. This has saved me money and time. Thanks Ben :)
I'm in western WA and I start in April generally. It lasted all summer last year but I know Ben gets his a lot quicker. (Plus he starts way earlier) Lol
@@sandybottomhomestead Thanks some of my potatoes have chitted and I am watching the 10 day forecast but have frost blanket just incase because I was thinking the same before you answered. God bless.
Can you use a greenhouse to cold stratify seeds or will the warm cold temperature fluctuation impede the stratification cycle. Are they better left in the freezing cold and left to warm up gradually instead?
This is off topic, but I wanted to give an update on my perlite-covered pepper seeds. My Nu-Lemon Jalapenos germinated in six days!!!! Thank you Ben.

That’s awesome! Glad I could help!

TY
I use the side of the pack where the crease is. I like putting them in my hand so I can see how many I have to work with
I love that your wife is always surprised 😃 great snow stratification and watering tip. Say No to the snow shovel!! 😅
Its like they told us back in the day just say no!
This is how I did my flowers got a video coming up soon. First time trying hopefully we both get some success

Haha not on this channel
Happy Saturday 👋 I grew yarrow last year in the winter jugs. Did great.
Nice!
Flowers, fruit and nut is what I see as the only things that u gotta pay attention to zone wise for the cold hours. This is why your channel rocks!
You know I have never tried to Grow a nut tree. Might have to change that soon
@@sandybottomhomestead Squirrels bury pecans in planters and garden beds and I now have a two year old pecan tree in a pot.

Always
Use a regular shovel to move the snow where you want it.
I have no choice
The snow shovels they make out of plastic are garbage. They crack so easy and dont hold up. So if you ever get one, kepe that in mind.
I used a plastic one for years only broke cause I got mad and smashed it. Maybe I should get metal but I am holding out!
Thanks I am trying flowers and herbs this year. When in February do you start potatoes?

I put my potatoes in late April to mid May, but I'm zone 5@@DanlowMusic
In 1 week

I really like your closing song and who is it
I have no idea but I just had to buy it for $250! It's here to stay. I send it to you

After the initial chill the you can use it as long as it doesn't below freezing if they are frost sensitive
