By far the best design I’ve seen because it doesn’t require any chisels or glueing or heavy 4x4’s. I Just built it and it works perfect on my deck.

I would use a through eye-bolt with a washer in front and washer and nut in the back to hold the weight of the hammock. Other that that awesome job on the build.

Replace the bit lag bolts with regular nuts and bolts and this thing is amazing. Replace the lag bolts with threaded and you can make this thing portable. Cost a bit more but having the luxury to throw it in the back or your trick and still be able to pack stuff around it is great. Anyone with two hands can get this thing together in a minute when it has bolts.
now that is a great idea because storing it would take up lot less room brilliant idea

I noted previously that while this was an easy build, I made mine from pressure-treated lumber, which made it very heavy. I also had to extend the upright post to 6' because my hammock was very long, also adding to the weight. I need to move the frame around to get shade where I can, to allow me to mow and to avoid killing the grass under the frame. So, I found a set of wheels that came off an old lawn mower in the scrap metal area of the recycle center. The shaft is attached to two metal plates 2" by 4" by 1/8" using "U" bolts. The plates are then fastened to the wooden frame with deck screws. The wheels are eccentrically mounted to the shaft allowing the mower deck to be raised and lowered. In my application, when in the lowest position, the hammock rests on the frame, when raised to the highest setting, the hammock rests on the wheels and is very easily moved wherever. I'm not sure how to post a video here so if you'd like to see how the wheels look and work, message me.

Great project.. did it myself. Lasting many years already. I used lag bolts.. expensive but worth it. Use one at each end of the hammock mounts.. I matched the bolts up at The HD. Painted the crap out of the white wood. Screwed and bolted. Total of 8 bolts.. the two at the top were great for mounting the hammock. Did it all before I put the feet on it... best to have the hammock so you can adjust the angles where you want them..

This was a fun build, really simple. I opted for pressure-treated lumber but still spent under $75. My problem is the length. My wife bought me a hammock that was hand-made by an artisan in our area and it is very long. I should have checked this because the frame isn't nearly long enough for my hammock. I'm trying to decide to either make the bottom rails 10' instead of 8' long or raise the vertical posts to 5' or 6' rather than the 4' in the design.
I have just built mine and have the same problem, what did you decide in the end as have the same dilemma what to extend

I used this video to build a stand. I changed the support lengths to suit a lower hang height, and doubled the fixing count. But it is solid as rock. Really helpful video.

I have the same hammock and it specifically says to only attach the hooks to straps, never directly onto more metal. Do you have any suggestions for securing a strong-enough strap connection instead of the metal eye lags? Thanks!
You could do grooves for straps where the hooks would go
Just replace the carabiner clips with better ones that'll work with metal hooks. It'll be way cheaper and less fiddling with the design.

Is this design for a “universal” size hammock?
NO, I just finished building mine using pressure-treated lumber - cost about $60. I had the hook hardware and used some 4" deck screws where strength wasn't an issue. Here's the problem, my hammock is way too long for this frame. I need to replace the 8' rails with 10' or take the vertical posts up to about 5 1/2' rather than 4'.
No, measure your hammock first! We used our Eno double nest hammock which is 112".
What size hammock does this hold?

Not exactly sure on an exact weight, but a full grown adult can enjoy this :)

I built mine out of treated wood, and used a 4x4 for the base and bolts to hold it together.
Pretty awesome... and the big ole butt joke made me laugh... !
This stand will only work for 9ft hammocks. I should have checked measurement before hand. I have a 10ft hammock and an 11ft hammock. The 10ft barely fits without my butt touching the bottom frame.
There are also several free plans version via RUclips plus free plans from Bob Vila. Somewhat disappointed with this frame. The size of the hammock should be called out in the notes for people in case others need to make changes to lengths.
Many people extend the bottom board in order to make the stand longer. What would make the experience better for you? We've had 100s of happy customers, but we are always looking to improve:)

People buy plans because the research, cut lists, and material lists are already made and done for you. And also plans are a great way for beginners to learn and understand how to build things :)

Yeah, this is a lie. The screws alone cost $35-40, the plan's are $10, and the wood was $30.
After building , it was TOO SMALL to hold my rope hammock!

Hi Timothy! Prices vary from place to place depending on lumber selection. The screws are expensive to buy in a whole box, but must local hardware stores has them available to buy in singles. I’m sorry your hammock didn’t work! Please refer to the length section to insure your hammock fits. If it doesn’t you can always lengthen the bottom boards. Please email us with any future questions.

And you can get 3/8" stainless screws or lag bolts that are more than sufficient for this build for about $1 each at Home Depot or Lowe's. So really no need to spend more than $12 for hardware.
Can you tell me how far it is between the two eye bolts? Are you still selling the plans?
The frame is nice and sturdy, but you went cheap on the hammock itself and it cocoons you. You need boards, at the head and foot to keep it open.
We love our eno! We take it on all our trips, so we need to be packable 😊 And plus when it's windy outside you can just hide away in it ✌🏼
I believe they call the things that keep the hammocks open "spread bars."
They do but this type of travel hammock is designed not to use spreader bars. I have one similar with built in webbing to strap around trees and a split in the material so you can either sleep inside it or slip in a roll mat for added comfort.

The built is perfect without using treated wood, just protected with a stain and exterior finish. Treated lumber should never be used for furniture, too many carcinogens.

Wow that's a bit of an overkill lol. Even a single 2x2 would easily hold hundreds of pounds so long as they don't jump on it.
Tried one 2x4 and it is very unstable. The overkill is just right.
