@@MVDBR I guess we'll find out or maybe not. My guess is he went off the side of a steep drop off and couldn't get up. They knew where he was riding but maybe people moved to searching walking the trails looking down into the scrub? Apparently it was a mate of his that found him. Anyways good to hear you got the PLB.

I too had a come-off several days ago that prompted a CT scan on my shoulder. Nothing broken but a small effusion that won't require surgery. At 54, things don't heal as fast as they used to......

Good reason to wear a bit more protection Josh.I often wonder about that watching your vids.I know it's warmer up your way than down here in Vic,but I'm a believer in all the gear all the time.For my off road adventures I wear my old adventure gear because I at least have shoulder,elbow,knee and hip protection.Glad you pulled up OK
It's a catch-22 mate cause I ride shit, but I ride much shitter with all that gear on. And not just because of the heat, it's the bulk and the loss of flexibility. I'll just be more careful I think 😬

Short steep n sweet man definitely a challenge with the ruts now! I remember last time I hit it with Emmsy the ruts were so bad we gave up after 3 or 4 attempts 💩 Thanks for watching Andy 🍻

Second, oh mate I hope you're ok. Well I mean it's been a week and you're better. Bad bruise that on the leg but fortunately and hopefully just a bad bruise! Wishing you a speedy recovery. Maybe that chilled water pond might help ;)
Last I think these dahes are the same than on my 990. They hate water these and are reknown to go haywire every now and then. Second hand ones come up on FB marketplace sometimes though replacing it altogether may be better, if cost is right. Hope you find a good solution for you. Love that 690 :) Take it easy bud
I thought I was gonna have a heart attack after I walked back up that hill but I didn't leave that footage in 😅 Thanks mate glad ya like the Insta footage, I remember you chipped in for the GoPro 10 back in the day (I don't forget shit like that lol) but yeah even tho it jams up a lot, I've captured a LOT of cool shit on that thing. And I appreciate your donation bro 🤙 I saw a lot of posts on the internet where people had pulled their 690 dashes apart and found broken clips and lots of white dust (not cocaine unfortunately, just plastic I guess from rubbing through all the vibrations) but when I opened mine up it was clean and pristine, so I dunno wtf is up. Hey Josh! WOW! I hope you are fully recovered by now, that was a nasty fall! Maybe remember to Armour Up when you are out on these rides, the tracks looked bloody hard and not used in a while.... You can usually repair the internal connection to the LCD on the instruments, there are guides on the forums 😉
Yes I do, and yes the internet is always my first port of call for misinformation 😅 I spent 2 days reading fkn forums and trying suggestions, all to no avail. The inside of my thingo looks perfect, but obviously sumting wong 😬
@@MVDBR Yeah, the connection between the board and the LCD can detach even when it looks connected, you need to repair the connection by soldering wires between the pads, or soldering the existing pins between the board and the LCD. The thread on ADV Rider called "KTM 690 Speedometer Problems: Did you have a problem, and how did you fix it?" has a guide on p4. There is also a guide linked on p5 that covers what to look for and replacing the pins with wires.
@@krazed0451 lol yeah I saw that thread. A lot of those guys seem to be only having issues with the LCD, which would make sense. None of my idiot lights or the tach are working either, like the whole thing's not getting enough power. Don't think it could be anything to do with the LCD connections but who fkn knows

Shit you must have hit the deck hard. At least you still have the T7 to ride though. In regards to the Kato, can you find any leads on a wreck / write off donor bike that you maybe to salvage the dash cluster from ? Just a thought. Good luck with getting the 690 back up and running
Thanks mate, from what I've found on the good old interwebs they are a common failure on these bikes (along with a host of other things of course haha) but yeah I'll keep an eye out for a cheap one.

freaks me out :( I ride in cellphone coverage areas with an app that detects crashes on my phone (liberty rider), and I have a second cell phone on my pocket. But in the bush I would definitely use an inreach of some sort

While I'm pretty happy with my GoPro12's I'll probably be going another way next time unless GoPro ups their game. I have an Insta360 X3 while I'm trying to use more, it's more friction to edit but does make for better footage since you're recording every angle. You should see if they will sponsor you an X4!

I've been doing a bit of solo riding of late, and cleaned up a kangaroo last week at fairly high speed down a pine break. Fkn lucky to walk away unhurt.
Check out the new Alpine Star Air Tech Offroad armour, it has a built in airbag setup that the Dakar and rally guys use.
Bloody expensive, but designed for what we do.

So Insta sent me the MC bundle, I probably wouldn't bother with it. It's basically a couple of sticky mounts and a clamp style mount (which is alright but there are better ones like the SmallRig one I use and it was only like $20 off Amazon ( www.amazon.com.au/SmallRig-Magic-Bottom-Ronin-M-Freefly/dp/B00DJ5XH4O ugh of course they're $30 now but still good) and the helmet mount I use is just a GoPro style buckle that kept falling off so now it's glued and bolted to my chinbar lol. If you're looking for something less permanent the Insta360 chin mount is pretty sweet, they sent me that as well but I gave it to JD since I'm already sorted for a helmet mount. That's this one: store.insta360.com/product/helmet_chin_mount $50 but works well enough 🍻 Sorry for the long reply but that's what ya get when you ask me camera shit lol 😅
@MVDBR yeah I carry a plb mate, and a Zoleo for big trips like the Simpson Desert where I'm real remote. I just put it onto the minimum 3 bucks per month plan to keep the account open and then up it to the unlimited plan for when on a big trip.
The new Alpine Star Tech Air , looks like normal offroad body armour, but has air bag bit built in for big get offs with street, enduro and rally settings. I've had a few close calls and thought they might be worth a go.
I reckon I'll go for an insta 360 action cam, but for me I need it to be easy to hook up microphone etc otherwise I just can't be fkd with it all. 🤣

It’s likely the display pins in the display have snapped. It’s actually a known issue with the 690 especially pre 2019 due to the big single vibrations. If you have a soldering iron you can try fix it before ordering the new one. At least take it apart and inspect it as I bet the display pins are in bits after that impact. Hope you sort it man and glad to see nothings broken
I was wondering the same thing; has the soldering cracked and a light dab with a soldering iron on what looks a potential problem area!!
Years ago I fixed a Falcon power window switch block working again simply out of having a few tins and getting to wonder if 🤔

Yeah man I have read all the internet forums about this problem, I pulled the dash apart several times looking for things they mentioned, mine looked factory fresh none of the white dust others mentioned or broken clips or anything like that. I pulled the LCD off and reseated it, none of the connections looked broken to me. But also it's not JUST the LCD that's stopped working, the neutral and all the other idiot lights plus the tacho aren't working at all anymore, only the ABS light. So yeah I dunno what's going on, maybe some other bad contact on the PCB but doesn't seem like it would be the LCD to me 🤷♂ but then what the f do I know lol.

@@motorbikediaries yeah fuses look all good. I'll have another play with the instrument block tomorrow, it's already buggered so can't hurt to poke a soldering iron around in there some and see what transpires 😅 I'll let ya know lol
@@MVDBR Appreciate that man, I find myself invested now 😂. If nothing is working then no power is getting to it (stating the obvious out loud). I wonder could a wire have been severed in the crash, perhaps it was still in contact and that’s why it worked right after the crash looking at your footage but came apart over time with vibrations etc. could be worth looking over the main wiring harness leading to the instrument and actually removing the cover on it. Either that or a hidden pin is broken 🤔 problems with electrics are the worst
