This was an excellent season, one of the best cliffhangers on TV Ever!!!! and the Music on the background first rate! They sure don't do series like these anymore :( Classic!
Best. Cliffhanger. Ever. Brilliant plotting getting all three leading ladies there and fabulous twists. The shot of a frightened Donna Mills looking through the car window as it speeds away is a classic.
The was Knots Landing at one of its many bests. Powerful performances and artistry are at work here on all levels. Warner Bros. please, please release the all seasons of Knots Landing on DVD in its entirety.
I didn't get to see this great soap until Val Twins were taken from her, and watched it until the very end I agree I'd love to see the complete series of this great soap. Knots Landing was the soap that got me into soaps, this cliffhanger holy cow, the writing on this soap is amazing.
BANG! Thats how you do a season finale they just dont make tv shows like this anymore. I guess they couldnt make shows like this we have lost our innocence, but it was great to watch this never seen it before.
this show was an exception. The creator had come up with Dallas, so the network was hands off let him do whatever he wanted w/Knots. Only that has that power is Shonda Rhimes and she earned it. The key was that he and most of writers, directors, producers, cast &crew stayed w/show til the end. When u start having revolver door or producers, you end up with a massacre at a royal wedding (Dynasty) or the Bobby dreamed it season. 'sides now it's all self contained 43 min plots.
A cliffhanger is not complete, unless your heart is beating a thousand beats a minute. And on this night in 1986, my heart was going into cardiac arrest. lol
The best part about the following season was how Abby got a haircut while being kidnapped. It was very nice of Sinclair to pull over and let Abby get a blow out,
This was the best cliffhanger on Knots IMO. I remember being just stunned how Karen, Val and Abby were all in danger during the last few minutes. Brilliantly written, directed and acted. Then having to wait all summer for the season premiere in September !
This clip gave me goosebumps just like 25 years had never even passed. KN was the best primetime soap ever............and that was because of the amazing cast and writers. I never realized that Kevin Dobson wore a hairpiece until just now. I'm watching old episodes of "Kojak" every night now, and he was heavily balding in 1974.
I always liked how they dressed Karen in red from head to toe so the audience had no clue where she was actually shot. And after the way they killed Sid a few seasons earlier, longtime viewers had NO IDEA what to expect from this scene.
The best. First time, i literally almost died when karen fell down. Lotus point, wolfbridge group was too convulated to keep up with but this and Gary getting shot at his ranch were phenomenal. great directing.
Yes it was, I use to laugh at my parents for watching soaps as a kid unless I watched this one. I started where Val's Twins were kidnapped and was hooked all the way until the end. I pray someone release this entire series on DVD. I'd pay $100 for it. I don't want to buy it off of someone, I'd rather go to a store and get it, My parents and grandparents got me hooked on soaps after this great soaps, if the storyline is good, soaps are like crack you are hooked and you want to tune in the next day or next week to see what happens.
KL's three beautiful leading ladies (described by TV Guide as "a magnificent triumvirate of Flesh, Spirit, and the Devil") all in the same place, at the same time: one is shot, one is kidnapped, and one appears about to have a miscarriage. This is the single greatest cliffhanger ever done by any soap, anytime, anywhere.
@@SweptAway529 One GREAT thing about the Wolfbridge story arc (IMO one of the very best ever done on Knots Landing) for Laura, and for Greg; that's when THEIR legendary relationship began.
That was a great ending, but in the next season Abby had a short bob, with the same dress, while still being kidnapped. O.o I remember as a kid I was like when the hell did she have time to get her hair done? Did she tell the kidnappers to stop at Beverly Hills Salon on the way to Wolfbridge? lol.
I felt the same way about Sue Ellen grieving over Cliff's comatose body at the end of Season 5. First episode of Season 6 Sue Ellen has a new short moussed up hairdo. Guess she left Cliff's bedside to get a quick makeover for when Cliff awakened.
As good as this cliffhanger/finale was my favorite will always be the cliffhanger when Diana leaves with Chip-Karen realizes who he is,Gary in jail, for Cijis death and the amazing and memorable, montage of Karen weeping over her daughter,of Valene after making Gary understand that he wasn't a Killer-sitting in chair,of Abby and finally Gary in his jail cell with a freeze frame of him. Just perfect this is definitely 2nd. KL Such a great Show!!
from 5 till 8 this show blew away....epic...i loved all the seasons but those 3 seasons were simply superb...val carrying garys baby and he didnt even know it...
@paulac2006 Gary and Val named the boy twin after Bobby who had died. They never addressed it after it turned out that season of Dallas had been a dream.
I also loved the scene where Mack and Karen confront Michael when they think he might be the one one drugs because of his arrest from having Olivia's drugs in his car.
I don't think that will ever happen. They did 2 or 3 seasons, and even those had so little demand that they are hard to find. It would be fun if they broadcast them again.
I loved Knots since Day One. Enjoyed it when it was about normal cul-de-sac folks like when Abby came in and seduced Richard in the hot tub was the big drama. I loved the realistic storylines. I liked this cliffhanger because it brought many people together into one finale. Thanks for sharing this great clip.
At one point, Gary was supposed to be shot in this episode, when Karen (at the very last minute) whose actress (Michele Lee) needed to wear clean underwear, in this episode, was to be shot, to added the drama, and to survive the bullet, in the follow season. There was no way "Knots Landing" would do a death character on a popular star on a good character, who was social, as to Michele was (and still is) in real-life. Great cliffhanger!
@paulac2006 J.R. was larger than life but had a vulnerable side and you knew the method for his madness and why he did the things he did. Which made JR a person who you loved to hate. Abby was the second best villain because Alexis was too campy and never had viewers convinced she had a maternal side to her.
Abby was very fortunate to have been held hostage in a luxury limousine that had a high end hair salon in it. Because next time we see her, she’s sporting a new hairdo! lol this was a great cliffhanger! ❤️
@rpm8064 I know it was such a huge "wake up" call that we are watching a fictitous show. The same happened on Dallas in the 1982 cliffanger "Good-Bye, Cliff Barnes" and Sue Ellen and JR are at cliff's bedside and Sue Ellen tells JR if Cliff dies, she could never marry him. Then when the 82-83 season opened SueEllen was still by cliff;'s bed in the same outfit & she cut her hair short too. LOL The producers must have wanted to scream because of the huge change in these 2 actresses hairstyles LOL
I seen these episodes and had a good laugh. When Abby was kidnap they took her to the beauty parlor for a new hairdo.A kidnap woman has to look her best. In Sue Ellen case while she was at the hospital visiting Cliff Barnes she decided to change her hair style just in case Cliff Barnes wake up, he will notice Sue Ellen new hairstyle. I am being SARCASTIC here. I can only imagine the producers reaction when both women showed up on the set with a new hairdo.
@rpm8064 Sorry I rewrote what I had previously. its been a while since i posted the references between Dallasand KL. You are right they should have done something to keep the continuity of the actor's looks esp at the end of a cliffhanger.
The problem with this was that they crossed the storyline with Dallas when Gary died and didn't cross the really being alive part which unlinked the spin off soaps and caused countless continuity issues and further storyline problems on both soaps.
They did the same when Bobby died and named a twin after him and then in Dallas it was all a dream but Knots just went on and we never really talked about Bobby again - dead or alive.
LOL Look at the stunt man who is getting hit my Mark St.Claire's car, His hair is gray and doesnt look anything like Ted shackleford. I notice these things and just yesterday I seen an rerun of Bewitched and seen Elzabeth Montgomery in her Serena role walking in from of Samantha and the actress who stood in for her as her double and very fast her head was down and u can see it was E.M's stand in. I love little bloopers.
The production values of early episodes of KL were pretty low. I remember one scene in which Karen is pouring from a carton of orange juice, and it was obviously Minute Maid with the name covered over with black electrical tape.
One blooper I notice was an episode of the bionic woman. You had to be quick to see it. Jaime Sommers jumped off a platform wearing high heels. As she is jumping she is wearing sneakers not high heels. When she landed on the floor the sneakers are gone and the high heels returned. I can understand it is easier for the stuntwoman to jump in sneakers rather than heels.
The funny part is Val looked like she was in pain Mack kept saying "I got them" while holding his wife after being shot. He was so wrapped up in his work and so selfish.. Then Abby had long hair when she is shown looking out the back window of the limo. When the next season started her hair was cut short sort of like the 1982 cliffhanger "Good-Bye Cliff Barnes" Sue Ellen is at cliff's bedside telling JR if "Cliff dies I dont think I'll ever be able to marry you" Sue ellen's hair is short

I agree. Flamingo Road was my personal favorite, but no doubt Knots Landing was the best of them all
I was so addicted to this show in the 80's every Thursday evening at 10:00pm on CBS. Season 5 was a nail biter. Loved Donna Mills as Abby.
clouseau186 rarely a vixen can get kidnapped like this, but never gets what they deserve. She always manages to escape.

Knots Landing Season 5-One of the best seasons and series cliffhangers ever. Great season!

I don't think that the first couple seasons sold very well.
THIS is how you do a cliffhanger!
I always liked how they dressed Karen in red from head to toe so the audience had no clue where she was actually shot. And after the way they killed Sid a few seasons earlier, longtime viewers had NO IDEA what to expect from this scene.
There was no blood oozing from Karen anyway, which I guess explains why no one tried to actually help her.
Thank you CowLip (Cohen & Lipman) for your excellent writings for this season finale.
Thank you so much I’m streaming it now and I just want to get caught up on season five I miss the 80s lol
