This project was a challenge by John Heisz to make his ultimate clamps and do something unique with them. I'm not sure I succeeded but had a great time with it anyway. I'd say John's original wooden clamps would be much better being lighter but these will look interesting displayed in the workshop and I may actually use them once in a while.
As always I'm happy to answer any questions.

Love it! Well done, Neil :)
2 in 1 I love both channels
A musician always enjoys praise from the composer.
Yes, great stuff Neil, but one point of critique: I don't think it really counts as a John Heisz challenge unless you say "polyurethane construction adhesive" at least once in your build video. 😂. Jk, love both of your channels!
Thanks John! I really did have fun making them and they are an awesome design! :)
Thanks Neil and John ! I love your clamps !
Wow! I love this project. John Heisz’s clamps (these and others) are on my ‘to do’ list. But Neil, you’ve taken them to another level. I can’t recall who said it - Ruskin? Le Corbusier? - but the ultimate in making is to make things that are both beautiful and functional. You nailed that perfect combo. Love it! I particularly like the stacked leather handles. More of that please!
Thanks very much Sebastian - glad you liked them! You should definitely have a go at making them, they're a great clamp. :)
Those are gorgeous in so many ways that I'm not even gonna bother trying to list them! They look like something from a century ago when tools were made by the craftsmen who relied upon them!
It's the sandwiched leather handles with the hex/round brass bits holding them, for me. Also the most satisfying part has to be 16:22, when gluing on the second clamp pad, when you can use the clamp itself as a clamp to clamp on the clamp pad. haha
Beautiful! I would dip the handles in varnish, and put a removable clevis pin at the end of the clamp so the jaws can't slip off.
There's a good argument for 'functionality above all else'... but then you look at things like old watchmakers' tools, and instantly dream of pieces of art that just happen to also be useful lol! These turned out great Neil!
Three qualities you want your tools to have, in order of priority: you want them to be functional (so you can use them to get things done), ergonomic (so you don’t cause unnecessary wear on your body while getting things done) and beautiful (because beautiful things make us happy).

I like those episodes where creators like you meet
JH regretted starting this competition)))))
Simple movements, simple stuff.. but with your hands every job looks like - perfect!
These were great when John made them, but these look extra strong and sturdy with the brass on them
Thank James - Glad you liked them! I'm sure the wooden ones are just as strong and they'd certainly be more than strong enough. :)
Brass, hardwood and leather combined with excellent skills and performance = WAUW!!
And yes, brass absolutely looks best with patina. Brilliant, as always! (Y)
Touch of brass always classes things up. Looks great! Thanks for sharing!
Definitely over the top, Neil. Beautiful and functional.
I love when you use brass and black wattle. It would be great to see you make another ‘precision tool,’ like your low angle jack plane with the same colour contrasts, or adding copper!!!!!
beautiful project. Well done Sir.
This was so totally EXTRA and I loved every second of it!!
Absolutely love your version of the clamps. (I'm a big fan of brass and wood combinations.)
Beautiful clamps! The handles looked great. Maybe you can use them on a pair of locking bit drivers; a short one for close quarters and a longer one.
they look awesome
Beautiful piece of art.
I really like the stacked leather look and feel.
This was a cool video. My two favorite makers from the Makers Mob!
Interesting, but I wouldn't epoxy the leather rings because I think they would lose shock absorbing elasticity. This may not be important on a clamp handle, but it may be so for a hammer
I love the way you made the handles. I bet they are amazing to use!
Fancy indeed..I really like these👍
NIce clamps. For some reason I was thinking.. crank. What about a stacked leather handle crank for the propellar gears?
Really beautiful work, Neil! 😃
Fantastic looking clamps!!!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Nice work, as always.
A set of nice screwdrivers with leather handles preferable with the same hex look, and let the hexform continue to the stem of the screwdriver, then You could get torque with a wrench, if necessary. Good work with these.
You have indeed made ridiculously fancy clamps.
Stunning as always.
I like the flavour you put on them. The look awesome
Tidy! A set of chisels with the hexagonal leather handle would look the bolloks
That handle would look great and work quite well on a screwdriver
Awesome! Could use these for the golden clamp awards.
These look fantastic 👏
Very nice clamps , liked the way you made them !!
Dear Neal, can the leather be substituted for cork (looking for a plant based material) and still be used in the same way? Or is it just too porous? Maybe it would need to be reinforced with say penetrating epoxy, but you then lose the smooth natural feel of the handle..
What do you think?
This turned out fantastic!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I wonder if you could use brass in a kumiko design? 🤔
Have you ever wondered if there was more to life, other than being really, really, ridiculously good looking?
Well done!
Very nice! Maybe add some fancy engraving on a future project?
Sehen KLASSE aus
Ich bin bis heute nicht dazu gekommen Schraubzwingen selber zu bauen
Royalty amongst clamps, Neil. John's own clamps will have to kneel/Neil before them. [see what I did there?]
Love your videos man!!
Как всегда высший пилотаж!!
Great work Neil as always. Where do get your brass from?
Goodness, with this much fine brass plate, I nearly thought I was watching a Clickspring video >.>
You can't give a project more class than by using some leather and brass.
Wish I had 1% of your woodworking knowledge.
U should turn our logo into one of those pop up bench dog things so u can clamp things sideways
Love this!
How about making swinging pocket doors???????
Oh and nice job by the way
Beautiful clamps. Is it just me or do those handels at 11:10 before they were finished look like a kebab?
Glad I wasn’t the only one who thought so.
Well, if one can afford a milling machine then the cost of brass must be affordable.
The brass was pretty cheap, offcuts off eBay. :)

Hey Mr. Pask, Today I bought your 5 plan bundle and I have a copy of the transaction screen. Nothing happened after that, no notification of how i was going to receive the plans or anything. Can you help, cause there's no email anywhere?
Hi Matthew, Can you send me an email at pasksupport@paskmakes.com and I will sort it out. Thanks, Cath
Big like 👍
I have feeling, brass in Australia is very cheap?)) Thanks for video!
I know buying bottom taps is a taboo, but grinding the taper off a plug tap? What a power play.
Woow 👍👍👌👌🙏🙏
Nice work, but why you did not pin the fix jaw to the bar?
well done, make a gold one
Да, заморочился конечно над конструкцией.👍!
beautiful idea mate..... really I want to be like you
Haha don't we all?
Man I'm a fellow maker and huge fan. Keep em coming friend. I would like to see those leather handles on some nice chisels with mild steel spine and hardened steel cutting edge
Thanks! Hand forged chisels have been on the list for a long time and I agree, leather handles would look great. :)
Sweet!
I have over 50 of these and the wedge version of John's clamps that are used daily in a production shop by others and myself. They have proven to be strong and bulletproof. Of course the light weight of wooden ones is their beauty compared to my Bessey clamps.
These are really nice, especially the handles. I'm thinking aluminum instead of brass since I have a big supply of scrap pieces.
Great build!
They really are a great design Ed, I should make more but using John's method. :)

What about making a fancy screwdriver set with those stacked leather handles?
I feel like that handle would be pretty nice on an awl. Similar to a diresta ice pick
That's a great idea and I've been thinking of making an awl too. :)
You should make a video of building something with only tools that you made!
The project came out great. I think the handles would be a perfect fit for a hand forged screwdriver or to replace the handle on a fence (bandsaw, table saw, etc.)
I turned a handle to replace the grimy red one on my table saw fence. I love using it every time!
Thanks and great ideas! :)
You could use the handles for drill press handles or you could make a beautiful set of screwdrivers.
Really interesting touches to John's clamp. I just bought those plans last week, and am studying them prior to building. Always cool to see someone else's 'take' on a project. While I will likely not use your brass touch, I may add accent woods to my chosen primary of Western Ash. Well done! Both you and John should be happy.
Chris from _Clickspring_ would be proud of you for your work with brass and wood!
Excellent result with these Fancy Clamps
Wow, I didn't know i'd love fancy clamps tho with everything you make - i love them!!!
Thanks Teresa! :)
You are very talented. Good work 👍👍👍
Very nicely done, Neil. You have definitely made them your own. Their first use was to clamp the clamp pads in place to cure - that's a nice touch!
It is a truth universally acknowledged that the first task of a homemade clamp is to clamp its own pads as they’re glued in place.
@@ragnkja well I'll be hornswoggled. You really DO learn something new every day.
They built themselves
Man well over the top, class Neil.
You should make screwdrivers and hammers with those handles
Beautiful! Another display of your high level of craftsmanship we've all grown accustomed to seeing on your channel!
Thanks you! :)
Nothing wrong with using good looking tools, and those are good looking! Love the leather handles.
Thanks David - I'm not sure how much use they'll get but they'll be on show for sure. :)
Sweet! Can we refer to you as Mr. Fancy Clamps? Seriously, the brass looks really good. As far as the handles go, I think a Diresta ice pick would look totally cool with the stacked leather. The pieces would be small but the finished product would look great IMO.
Nice...!!! My suggestion for new tools with the leather handles would be a set of screwdrivers, maybe four, with two flatheads and two Phillips, all of which you make yourself! Merry Christmas!!
Is it not the cult of overkill?

I love these Neil, and I also follow John's channel too. I see that you are from Australia, but I cannot help but hear something in your voice...are you from Merseyside originally?
Wood and brass is such a beautiful combination. What is your preferred type of epoxy for this type of work?
At 7:23 you can see him using West System 105 Epoxy Resin
I agree, they do look great together! I'm no expert on epoxy but the west system epoxy seems to work well. :)
Not fancy, very high end.
They look amazing, keep up the great work

Nice work. Love the mix of wood & brass.
Could we define a new verb? Pask'd : Had that extra bit of Bling by Neil Paskin
Very, very nice clamps! I notice you didn't pin the top jaw to the spine, were you worried about splitting the timber with the grain? Do you feel the epoxy will be enough to hold it on?
Project turned out nice!
What wood is this? I only understand something like “black wockl” or so
Black Wattle. :)
@@PaskMakes Thanks! :)

It will be worth using them. Artwork.Hugs
What an upgrade. {I'm thinking a matched set of spoon carving tools would look amazing with these handles.}
Ooo Eerr, they 'aint half some fancy clamps you've made there Pask...lol. well done.👍
looks like 2 fancy kebbab
"...because these nuts are a bit too big, I rounded them off on the belt grinder."
I nearly spat my coffee out 🤣
Neil, Excellent! Can you tell us about your small cross cut fence that you used in the video. I don't think I've seen it before but I may have missed the video.
