This made me realize how many portrait reference bundles use ambient studio lighting. And painting ambient light as a beginner can be extra challenging. I wonder if there's anything with specialized directly-lit faces out there.
I love how to the point your videos are. Like right off the bat you said "look for these thing" and then explained further. So many times I come across videos that will take 5 minutes to even start talking about what to look for! Thank you so much!
Actually, the first portrait not only is a bad reference, but an even worse portrait. On top of the missing contrast and lighting, it's fully frontal, the girl has quite a dead stare and the skin looks almost plastified. I'm beginning to doubt whether it's an actual photo or not. I know you don't want to shame the photographers, but that's really not my idea of "professional".
Where do you find your reference photos? 📸

There's a trick for simplifying ambient light in the new Skin Tone Cheatsheet. Take a look here: pntbl.cc/160f92

My pleasure 😊 I will continue to do so 👌
Very informative video! Never really paid attention to the contrast of my references before
I know right? Sometimes we get inspired by the subject but forget to look at the quality of the reference 😊
You are so funny, David! I loved the blooper portion at the end. Way cute! 😂🥺🥰
Thanks, there are so many each time. It's hard to choose sometimes 🤣
I think I found a new channel to watch lol.
Très utile merci pour vos conseils! Continuez comme ça
Merci 😊 je vais continuer, promis!
