Spoiler maybe/ theory: Shouldn't this also be around the same time Zod was hanging about nearby? Implying Griffith loses control of the childs body on a full moon.
Spoilers: Actually Zodd wasn't around the area at the time, technically before this situation (this is based on what the manga showed so spoilers:) Zodd was with Griffith getting princess Charlotte out of the tower while his demon army kept the Kushan King busy, and during this episode (purely guess) they should have been moving their forces to ride in and save the day after the city the group is heading to next episode gets attacked.
