Hey all, quick massive thanks to everyone leaving their comments. Honestly thrilled this video some how took off. The al gore rhythm works in mysterious ways. Anyway, check out the other dumb videos on my channel if you so choose. 73s
This was great.👍👍👍🙂 Boy ,you can hear the New York Attitude. Lol Please do more of these videos! This was very entertaining and cassettes are great time pieces.I love playing and collecting cassettes. I still have a original crazy eddie cassette tape.👍🙂❤️ Great video.👍🙂❤️
@chrome_tape - As you mentioned in a comment, Charlie did, in fact, die about 2 years ago at the age of 63. A couple of minutes of research led me to his Facebook page, on which he stated he was a former NYCTA conductor. In his last post he wrote that he was in the hospital with COVID. He died just 17 days later. So sad because he seemed like quite an interesting character. He would have been 29 or 30 when these recordings were made.
Thanks for the info. Very sad to hear. Wild that this video has become my most popular. I'm glad to have played some tiny role in remembering Charlie's life.
When the machine kept recording the conversation, it didn't glitch or trip up, that's how they worked. If you picked up the phone while a person was leaving a message, it would continue recording until you either pressed stop on the machine or you hung up the phone. Also, the fact that at the beginning he is complaining about his AT&T answering machine tells me this is most likely after 1984. This is when the phone company began providing them at an affordable price. By the early 90's, they usually had micro-cassettes, so this is almost certainly mid-late 80's.
This is a fun upload. I could listen at this all night. Thank you very much and hope to find more of this content He reminds me of a guy I use to deal with in Queens NY Jobblot Automotive They sold Early Ford parts. Thank you again I’ll be listening to this many more times Travis in Kentucky
There it is I see the same video again three videos underneath this one saying playing messages from an old AT&T answering machine that was cool I don't have time to listen to yours now it's late and I need to relax I had a hard day today no time to stress my eyes on my phone time for the big screen
Robert LoBianco, a producer of avant-garde and experimental theater, died on Thursday at the New Yrok University Medical Center. He was 44 years old and lived in Manhattan. He died of tuberculosis, his stepmother, Joan LoBianco, said. Mr. LoBianco co-produced the 1976 opening of the landmark opera "Einstein on the Beach" by Philip Glass and Robert Wilson and its 1984 revival at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
If he bought an answering machine as-is, the tapes would be together from whenever the answering machine became obsolete and thrown into a closet or basement. I like to play the tapes within the machine, it adds more provenance to the recordings seeing the actual machine they were recorded on. @@user-pc8tb7hg1lHandlesRDumb
From what I learned from a friend who researched, he sadly likely passed away. But regardless, i'll take the attention if another youtuber wants to talk about this lmfao.
Laugh. I'm thinking its such a long message its bound to get rid of telephone canvassers. It almost says "Don't leave a message unless you really have to." Or maybe even a funny advertisement. Thanks for the upload.
Charles out there somewhere vaguely remembering this conversation with this woman, prolly married well into his golden years … yet he doesn’t know this convo was found on a cassette at a thrift store
that explains why there was a bunch of message tones playing randomly on tapes I heard. I thought the tape just got damaged and bled through to other tracks.
Gosh i would love that. Especially if it was edited in a way to where they were constant with only a beep and a small spacwle in between. I could fall asleep to it. Something about it is nostalgic.

I just seen a video less than a week ago of a man doing the same exact thing he bought an old AT&T answering machine I believe he paid $5 for it and he played the messages on RUclips better than that people left messages with phone numbers and he actually called a couple of the people and they actually had the same phone number and he asked them if it was okay to play the message and they will all freaked out from it it was great did you get the idea from this man or am I getting RUclips suggestion after watching that video that was sent my way I didn't search for it it was cool though.

Are you deleting? Just curious so i stop if you are
Researched the train crash mentioned at 6:40 - these calls are from 1988.
Thank you!
Charles sounds so sincerely done with all of this shit. I absolutely love it. Charles is my spirit animal
🤣🤣🤣
"i believe inanimate objects hate me" kino

chrometape - great messages; especially the dude who said "two train crashes," LOL.
Great premise for a video!
The video is very fantastic. I could sit here and watch for couple of more hours. Great job on this
Glad you enjoyed it!

thank you so much for your input! this is the stuff i don't have the time to research, highly appreciated.
These Sanyo cassettes are from 1978-ish. First AT&T answering machines hit the market in....1987/1988. He must have found the tapes on clearance.

Thank you so much for your comment! Glad you enjoyed it.
Thank you so much. I could listen for the rest of my life. Thank you again
Travis
This stuff is too funny! Great find! LOL! Crazy Eddies!! I remember those commercials! I'm from L.I. NY originally.
That Lebanese joint is still there near Court & Baltic like he said. It's called Nabila's now, who knows what is was called back then
We're HERE to hear something personal

Fascinating stuff.
Ha! Charles’ voice reminds me I f John Candy. The conversation sounds like a clip from a Woody Allen movie.
10:00 what a fascinating accident! That moment makes the tape perfect.
Thanks for taking the time to record this, I'm always fascinated by this kind of thing
TA = Transit Authority aka MTA, Charles must be a subway train conductor?
@10:10 yes, just like George Costanza. The only thing missing was him explaining how he likes the word Ma-Nure. 😂😊😂
COOL! I love this :) Thanks for sharing

This guy lived in Manhatten seems like a match
Wow, such a piece of history.
Charlie was my absolute favorite. Suggest going on a date and proceeds to sell her on the idea of going to a "stupid Lebanese place" haha
10:15 this guy sounds like a youtuber with a rantsona.
9:50 the beginning of the George Constanza bit.
Amazing!
Found some recently. Some guys wife wanted everything in the divorce. Sad thing is she cheated on him according to the tapes. Felt bad for the guy
The voices sound very early-mid 80s, aligns with current events mentioned.
I think you're right
Charlie is superbly grumpy. I hope his date at the stupid Lebanese restaurant cheered him up...but I doubt it did.
10:00 the plot thickens. This is so funny, like a radio drama about radios.
Imagine if the two tapes had separated, some of the magic would have been lost.

I'm calling it now, some RUclips / internet historian type is gonna cover this in the next year or so and Charles will finally be found
From what I learned from a friend who researched, he sadly likely passed away. But regardless, i'll take the attention if another youtuber wants to talk about this lmfao.
Huge bummer, seemed like a really old-school cool dude!
@@gscodeseeker Oh agreed!
Poor Bob Lobianco...
ITS TAPING US NOW lolol man i love these
I think he's saying "Colleen"
Man this guy is baller
Lila becomes a real pain in the ass on side two
Workers Vanguard? Charlie's a Commie...
You should play all of them! This is so cool!

He probably wasn't erasing the tape before rewinding it. Old beep codes left on the tape could interfere with new messages being fully recorded.
that explains why there was a bunch of message tones playing randomly on tapes I heard. I thought the tape just got damaged and bled through to other tracks.
Great stuff. Do you have more, this is addictive!
i don't have more! i would love to create a sort of library of random answering machine tapes though.
Gosh i would love that. Especially if it was edited in a way to where they were constant with only a beep and a small spacwle in between. I could fall asleep to it. Something about it is nostalgic.
I really wish somebody knew what year this was from. This is really peeking my interest. I’m a guy who loves historical things.
1988 - researched the train crash mention at 6:40

Hope that depressing sounding guy got out of his funk ☹️
We need ep. 2
Baddabing!

Mr. Robert That video was by PLA.
The lady he called wasn’t freaked out at all.
They had a nice conversation.
why is he so mad
This guy sounds too much like Jerry Seinfeld.
