I do have an ironsighted X-Bolt in 308WIN and it does very well for Moose and Caribou. If I was to consider Elk hunting, I've got 100 rounds of 165 Partition. I've purposely stalked Elk on my friends huge property in Colorado and gotten close enough for a clean headshot with one of my ironsighted rifles that was after I covered up with smoke. Great video I appreciate the science and research that you incorporate in your hunting. Your a very successful honest hunter👍👍
Nice. I have 168 grain Berger Hybrids and 175 grain Terminal Ascent in 308. Bought a few boxes of each in 2020/21 when prices were still reasonable. Ammo prices in Canada took a bit longer to get stupid. I've used the Berger on a small mule deer and it did blow up. Not much left of it. I won a draw for late season cow elk here in Alberta. I'm going to use the Terminal Ascent. Got a 960 acre site to myself for 3 days when I'm off after Xmas. 😁
I shoot 150 SST's for the very reason they blow up quick on deer.( They rarely exit) I rarely have to follow a blood trail. I Ive also shot 165 Deer Thug bonded on a few deer. They blow holes out the back. I wouldnt hesitate to use a good 165 bonded on elk.
If you have not already, how about comparing Norma Bondstrike with Nosler ABLR and Nosler AB? I've been bidding on a lot of 300WM Norma Bondstrike on an auction website - 180 grains. I found a lot of 308 Norma bondstrike on the same auction but don't want to pay since I already have about 1000 Nosler ABs on hand in 180 grain, although I have plans for those when I get my 300WSM back.
Greetings from Spain, I like your content. For wild boars between 100 and 300 lbs. Which bullet do you think will work best for .308 Winchester. 175 gr Federal Terminal Ascent, 165gr Federal Fusion, 150gr Hornady Interlock or 165gr Hornady Interlock. I think I'll try the Federal bullets first to see the results. Thanks for all your videos.
Def terminal accent. If you can't get those or your rifle don't like them. Try the fusion. Fusion are alot like terminal accent just not tipped. But they are bonded and super accurate. And there loaded pretty hot
😃 Yes, the Teminal Assent is the Best Hunting Bullet of the Three for Elk! If you watch bullet tests Into Ballistics Gel, it will tell you a whole lot more about Terminal Performance! Go Watch "Simple Minded Fella's" Videos with the 308 Winchester and All Your Questions Will be Answered! 🤖
I use them on whitetails. Work fine. 308 pits the hurt on deer and elk. Any big game animals really. I'd dare say there the best projectile fir killing game made right now. Top 3 at least
🕵️♂️ So, if you hit the front shoulder of an elk with a Burger Bullet, what happens is that it blows up! The energy of a fragmenting bullet (ELD-X too) goes perpendicular to the animal and Isn't Transferred into the Vitals! So, the Elk will run off and you will be left sitting their mad, wishing you had picked a Bonded Bullet or Monolithic Bullet to hunt with! 🤪
🤣 Until You've Hunted Elk, Don't Be So Sure! If the elk is wounded and runs over the next ridge and into another hunter, the elk may (eventually) die, but you won't be the one putting your tag on it and bringing it home! 😭 A couple of years ago, I watched a hunter with a 6.5 prc (he told me that, once he got the elk) shoot the elk in the chest 3 times, before it knew it was hit! The hunter hit him with the fourth shot, when the elk was running away, and then went after it and almost put a 5th shot in it - before it finally went down! I never asked him, but I would assume that he was using the 143 ELD-X factory Horneday Ammunition! Needless to say, Nothing like that has ever happened to me with my 270 Winchester! 🤷♂️ So, bullet selection really matters on elk! 🤑
🤔 Now, go back and Watch Austin's (Reloading Weatherby's) Video Again and Notice That While the 143 grain prc Had a Higher Velocity, a Higher Calculated Energy, and a Higher Sectional Density For The Bullet - the Terminal Energy Wasn't Transferred to The Target (10" Gong, in this case) as Well as the 270 Winchester! The results were due to not only the Bullet's Weight (Carrying the Momentum Forward), but the Bullet Construction and Materials from which it was made! "THEORITICALLY", THE BULLET WITH THE HIGHER VELOCITY, IMPACT ENERGY, AND SECTIONAL DENSITY SHOULD HAVE CARRIED THAT ENERGY FORWARD AT TRANSFERED IT INTO THE TARGET BETTER - BUT THAT ISN'T WHAT HAPPENED, WAS IT? The Evidence is "Observable" and on Video! So, WHY? I have been preaching this for years, that a bullet's (pre-shot) Sectional Density doesn't matter! It is All About the Bullets Construction and the Materials from which it is made and Frontal Area! Once the Bullet Impacts the Target, the Sectional Density Begins to Change Immediately and Then The Bullets Performance is About the Bullets Construction, Hardness, Shape, and Frontal Area - That Determines How the Energy is Transferred and If The Bullet Penetrates Completely Through the Animal! The Bullet is What Kills the Animal and is The Most Important Component of the Equation! And, That is Why I Also Like to Say "No Magnum Necessary" (NMN), if you pick the right bullet, powder, and cartridge combination! 🥳
I made a impulse buy on Berger Hybrids for my upcoming plains game hunt in Limpopo after watching so many one shot kills with them. What I didn't take into consideration was that these shots were almost always over 300 to 400 yards at a minimum. I will be taking a bonded bullet instead after doing the research I should have done before the purchase. Live and learn. Keep up the good work!
I love Berger vlds for elk best bullet I’ve used so far on them I’ve tried ttsx, edge tlr, terminal ascent Berger our performed all the couple elk I’ve shot with Berger’s haven’t made it past 10 steps
For elk or larger game yes Berger isn’t a good choice unless it’s a head shot. But if you can’t take a deer with a Berger you should just turn in your hunting license and all of your rifles and stick to the grocery store.
I’ve been watching some of your older posts, just subscribed. I like your content.
I appreciate you watching and subscribing! Take care!

Head shots are stupid.
Have you tried the Federal Fusions? Fantastic bullets for the price. Bonded protected point and priced right. I love them.
I haven’t, but I’ve heard nothing but good about them.

Sweet!
Really liking the Terminal Ascent more and more. Wish I could handload them.
I agree, it’s hard to find anything negative about them. They’re fantastic.
I'll tell you something negative. 300 win mag loading is to slow. 2810 advertised velocity

I understand, thank you
Federal Terminal Ascent was impressive.
Yes it was.
Please shoot the Bondstrike again!
I will, I’m very curious to see it captured.
Kentucky Ballistics did a great video on Norma Bondstrike.
I think I saw that. From years ago?
@@hopefulballistics Yeah. Three years ago.
I’d rather use FMJ than Berger hybrids. At least I know I would get a pass thru!
You would definitely get a pass though

I originally wanted to add the Accubonds to this test but they were so much more expensive. I will definitely at some point, though.

I would go with the terminal ascent. It seems to be a good balance between penetration and expansion. Thank you for watching!

Fusions are deadly on American wild hogs.
Counting in the video, you only had 6 jugs in line for the terminal ascent. The bullet was in the sixth jug.
Really? I could have sworn it was 7. Thanks

Like everything else, the problem is finding them (and primers too)! ☹
Great vids! And same conclusion I've come to:)
Thanks for watching
Federal is on fire with their fusion, fusion tipped, and terminal ascent. Hornady who??
@@andrewwarren3891 lol, they have fantastic bullets
Elk? .308? Barnes 168 gr TSX, Starline or Lapua Brass, RL 17.
That would definitely do it.

I agree. Behind the shoulder, I’m sure it would kill. I would avoid Berger Hybrids or VLDs for Elk.

As I mentioned in your other video that terminal ascent is my go to. The only thing I don’t like is the effect on my wallet 😅
Fair enough!
