    I was big into sculpting many something years ago. Watching this reminded me of how satisfying the end result is and how therapeutic (and at times incredibly frustrating) the process is. Makes me want to pick it back up. I think I'll do that.

    Thank you .I just started sculpting a beast of nurgle (own take on design) and your video helped refresh me on this I had forgotten

      Thanks! It's actually shocking how obtuse it seems to most people. I usually have to tell them what it's meant to be.

    I don’t even know what Nurgle is but I just binged your how to sculpt series bc I find it so satisfying so I am HERE

      Nurgle is a Chaos God of Pestilence in the Warhammer (Fantasy and 40000) Universe. If its sick, rotten and putrid it's probably somehow associated with Nurgle.

      Woah what? Are you into Miniature stuff at all? Or just rolled up for lolz? Regardless, happy to have you ☺

      Modern Synthesist came through a while ago to work through the series/basically all your videos 😁 and yes totally into miniatures! I paint (like canvas painting) and all the stuff I do tends to be pretty small anyway, and now my family has agreed to one (1) session of D&D as a birthday present after my endless nagging, so I want to make it really good and am trying my hand at making miniatures of their characters for our special game! I’m doing as much research as I can obv 😂 Glad to be here 😁😁

      @@tjmakes_ Oh Amazing! I hope that your ONE D&D session goes so well that they give you special dispensation for a SECOND session.

      @@tjmakes_ Check out DM Scotties channel, he's been doing D&D scratch builds for years. You probably already know of him, but has some amazing ideas for D&D terrain. Wyloch's army also have a lot of good scratchbuild ideas, but also a video on how you can make paper card miniatures (for enemies). Bard's Craft also has some really cool Scratchbuild ideas. Like for example he did scratch builds for Dragons.
      You also probably know of Matthew Colville Running the Game series, thats tips and tricks for Gamemasters. I've been a GMing for several decades now and even I managed to learn a trick or two from that series, or at least it got me to think of somethings. It's the perfect playlist to put on when you sculpt or paint, to let him talk to you while you craft.
      I assume you already have ideas for the Miniatures or proxies of said miniatures? I found reaper to be a good foundation for custom minis, even if they are not to great, nothing you can't improve upon. If you want to sculpt them all from scratch.. Tom Mason (also youtube channel) has videos on how to make armatures for figures and all sorts of things if you want to go at it from scratch. He isn't active anymore, unfortunately and the channel is small. When you search "Tom Mason sculpting" his channel should be the first to come up. (There is another Tom Mason channel)
      Hope any of this is useful and you'll be able to convince your friends and family :)

    Question: I'm trying to make a body for my Great Unclean One spare parts. So far I made a basic shape that fits the parts too out of aluminium foil, wire and put super sculpey over everything. Now hopefully you can tell me the best approach (no worries, I'm not asking super details, just a general procedure) on how to continue.
    Can you bake the base form, then put more sculpy (I saw someone mix fimo and beesputty) over it for more details and then bake it again?
    So basically I would now bake it, have a solid ground to sculpt in more detail, then bake that too and finish off with greenstuff/epoxy for the super small details and additions

    • @ModernSynthesist
      @ModernSynthesist  4 года назад

      Unfortunately I don't bake anything. I avoid non epoxy clays like the plague because I hate that you have to bake them 😔

    • @ModernSynthesist
      @ModernSynthesist  4 года назад

      Were I doing what you were, I'd take a similar approach, but I would replace all of the super sculpey with Apoxie Sculpt. No need for baking, and all is well!

    • @MrStatistx
      @MrStatistx 4 года назад

      @@ModernSynthesist good to know, thanks. If this try fails I'm gonna see if I can get a apoxy sculpt in larger amounts for an acceptable price. So far I didn't have luck in my area (Austria) , but I also didn't go too deep with searches.

      @@MrStatistx Oh damn. Hard to find in Europe, but someone found a decent supplier in Germany. It was still more expensive than North America. I've had good luck contacting the manufacturer, Aves, and asking them to recommend suppliers.

      @@ModernSynthesist im in the middle of it now, so for this one I only need to find apoxy if it fails somewhere along the line, but let's see what I cna find for the future. For small stuff I still have magic sculpt, miliput and greenstuff

    Frustrating to have the interwebs down in the cottage but hope you are having a good break from the insanity that is the current world. Your handle should be arriving soon unfortunately I can't track it through Canada Post.

    For what it is worth... you might think these things are "easy"... (well, the wings turned out to be a lot harder than you thought), there is a lot of Basics stuff that isn't really covered anywhere. Like the whole thing about bending the plastic to pop it off. I've seen people sculpt on clingfilm to pop it off, but you are the first i've seen use some plastic card. Same thing, like.. in one of your other videos you mentioned putting a spacer into your model.. and i am right now at a point in my project where it would be useful to have one... but i have no idea where to even find spacers of 1x2mm size with 1mm hole. But i plan to nag you about that on next weeks livestream.
    So don't be afraid to show some basic stuff, sometimes simple things can be like "oh, i didn't think of doing it like that". Like for example, some other video i saw, where someone sculpted hair.. and they just typed 5 needles next to each other to do the hair like a comb.. and i was like "why didn't i think of that?"... so really.. don't worry about showing basics. Someone out there likely hasn't encountered the problem yet... or maybe you have a different spin on how you do things...

      yeah i never knew this "pop it off" thing. I always just mangled it by scraping off of a plate with a razor and prayed.

    • @ModernSynthesist
      @ModernSynthesist  4 года назад

      Ok! Good to hear! And spacers are easy: I use sheet styrene/plasticard. However, if your country uses plastic tabs to pinch the plastic bags around bread, those plastic tabs are great, free, thin spacers, and you can double them up to get thicker.

    • @ModernSynthesist

      @@Andrew-px4on Wow. I literally can't even remember talking about popping this stuff off, so glad to hear that something as simple as that would be useful to people 😍
