Man, there's no way a sane person not crack up on laughs upon hearing that 'welcoming' shout from WC Italia 90': BLAAAAAAAAAARRRRRGHHHHHHHHH (yep, it was supposed to be a GOAL! scream)
You really set the scene perfectly for Rise of the Robots. Almost Life of Brian-esque in your building up of a powerful scene, before destroying the entire thing in hilarious farce. Or farcical hilarity.
The funny part was I read how Time Killers was originally cancelled, but there was a "fan outcry" about making it come out anyway that it actually was released. My question though is who would have wanted it in the first place?????
Yep. Had Strider 2 for the spectrum and loved it as to be fair, it didn't feel too much worse than the original on that device (which of course, didn't touch it on the arcade or the Mega Drive. When S2 hit the Mega Drive, I rather enjoyed it as much better than the Speccy version. It didn't occur to me to compare it with the Original on the MD for years. When I did of course, I totes saw why it was so hated. ...Then again, while it doesn't come close to the charms of its predecessor, my history with Strider 2 means I still enjoy it as a mediocre-to-decent-but-very-flawed platformer in its own right. I certainly couldn't bring myself to put it in my bottom 20.
Jeez Kim. For a moment there, I thought you would put the incredible 'Shining Force 2' in, when I heard the music. I was about to get my pitchfork and torch out!
I feel like I'm sinking into despair when I see really bad games being played, and think of the bad memories of playing them back in the day. It's amazes me that professional people would create and release such terrible games. Thanks for an interesting video, despite it making me feel sick.
I like time killers! There was a strategy and you still had a chance when you lost limbs. Plus it made sense that you could go back in time a couple minutes in time and you have your limbs back, unlike mortal Kombat
you tell these game stories so well brother I've probably watched about 30 hours of your channel.. love your story telling and observations. keep it up.
Kim-will you go into even further in-depth review of Awesome Possum? Please? I feel that it deserves the penultimately scathing review. If there was one thing that Awesome Possum did help was not the fact of trying to save the environment. Instead, it helped shape Doug Lawrence’s career in voice acting be solidified (he went on to voice Filburt in Rocko’s Modern Life, and most famously Plankton in Spongebob Squarepants). Easily comparable to Lani Manella starting off voicing Bubsy in Bubsy 3D before going on to doing much better.
Kim Justice hello Kim . Does ultra man use the same sound affects as streets of rage or are they just really similar? Cheers love from a mere fan man lol
Kim Justice fuck the lisp your intelligence and knowledge of games are very impressive and I mean very impressive I have watched loads of your videos and everyone of them has had me wanting more. But on to this list I'm up to 15 and I would be very upset if Flicky didn't make it that game was awful lol rise of the robots to and the worse ever was dark castle .
I like how the timer in Heavy Nova uses a completely different concept of time to the rest of the planet. 1 Heavy Nova Time Unit (HNTU) = 4.5 Earth Seconds. That's some serious sci-fi world-building, there.
Awesome video, Kimble. You did all those crappy games justice. Oh, and I "do" remember the original Rastan arcade game. It was SO much fun to play when it came back in 1987. I used to play that game in the arcades with my brother when it was new. And I think it's a FAR superior game than the atrocious sequel.
a terrifying thought just occurred to me: Bubsy's getting a reboot (by Black Forest Studios- who made that fantastic "Gianna Sisters: Twisted Dreams"- no less!)... what if some studio becomes emboldened or desperate, or worse yet; STUPID enough to try their hand at an "Awesome Possum" reboot? I shudder hard just thinking about it!
Dark Castle for the C64 was good. The controls were odd but it was a challenging game and had interesting puzzles. I was excited for the Sega version but soon found how bad it was.
Haha, I still have an old Sega Power issue with a review of Rise of the Robots, it was hilarious. Apparently there was also a review embargo, nobody was allowed to write about it until it was already out... always a sign of quality.
Damn that catchy music at the start, Shining Force or Phantasy Star if I remember correctly, now it'll be stuck in my head for ages. The bit with Awesome Possum's relentless one liners is funny.
This video is old af, but it wasn't Infograms fault for Fantasia on the MD. It's was Disney. Infograms wanted more time to get the game right and Disney gave them a very tight deadline to try and get the game out with the Fantasia VHS release.
I love the intro theme - it's so 80's and Genesis-y (as in Phil Collins). I'd rather have the Mega Drive's version than the one on Mega CD w/ vocals and such.
I played Awesome Possum the other day and had to reboot it just to convince myself there hadn't been a problem when the game loaded into memory ... nope, it was even worse second time lol
Have you ever played Ferias Frustradas Pica Pau? (Woody Woodpecker's Frustrating Vacations in English.) I'd say that it makes Awesome Possum look like Sonic 2!
I actually built a small circuit board to slow down my Commodore 64 to PAL speed but output NTSC video you have no idea, EU games ran WAY too fast on an a USA C64 and USA games as you know ran so slow on a PAL one, and I LOVE the C64 it still is my favorite 8 bit system! But PAL Elite on a USA C64 is gorgeous it ran FAST and we loved it so much! :)
When you mentioned Strider, I thought you were talking about the first one. But then that unofficial 2nd one came up. Thank goodness I never tried that one out.
AHHHHH!!!! I never could remember the name of the Mickey game I used to play when I was 5. Never got past the first level either. It still manifests in my nightmares from time to time
Rise of the Robots is a fantastic lesson in game design. It's everything that Streetfighter isn't. Edit: And a light year from anything Yu Suzuki ever did.
Played Sword of Sodan recently on the Amiga, and though it was never a good game it was still miles better than the Megadrive port. What really impressed me was the use of ambient sound which creates quite a cool atmosphere, and the game has a replay feature so you can watch your game play. Technically very impressive.
Stormlord looks cool. If I had seen just a longplay of that game, I bet I would've bought it but now I'm not so sure I should. It reminds me of Chakan, which is a great game by the way.
I've never played Wolverine Adamantium Rage but I want to. To see for myself how bad it is. The graphics look all right but it's gameplay is what's really terrible. However it does have several Game Genie codes to make it easier to get through. So I'll do that sometime!
And Atari took advantage of this and wrote their USA version of Battlezone on european hardware so it runs proper and fast same with Stellar 7 those are a few games you have to use a USA commodore 64 to play as intended and stunt car racer by Epyx originally written for USA c64 and rescue on fractulus written for the faster USA C64.
I had the same speech impediment growing up and I eventually learned to punch people like you square in the mouth. Too bad you're out of reach, you cancerous fuck.
Nightmare Circus is still my number one. Awesome Possum at least seems playable and almost so bad it's good, so you can have SOME entertainment out of it. That's impossible with Nightmare Circus, it's just depressing.
I'm already subscribed but I suddenly was fucking around with Rise of the Robots and then thought 'Hey, wouldn't it be good to watch the top worst Mega Drive games of all time' then I came here. No one but Kimble Justice does it better. Cheers dude.
The Wolverine game I think is misunderstood. I find it quite good! If you actually learn the controls, which only took me about 5mins, then I was kicking ass! Quite surprised how agile Wolverine is, I did not have the trouble you did
Zool is as uncontrollable as Awesome Possum, but nobody seems to care. To me Battle Squadron is impossible to win, at all. That makes it one of the worst. Also Mick&Mack with no improvements and the same walkthrough strategy for the whole game. No bombs, no automatic fire, no power raising up. I wonder why everybody around loves them.
The Japan version people dont fly off the screen they explode. i got this for christmas after asking santa for strider. I have a soft spot for it now, but only through nostalgia. Its nearly impossible to complete too.
Oh my god you open with WORLD CUP SOCCER ? That game was pretty fun to play back at the time, and I could name like 3 or 4 worse soccer games for the Mega-Drive.
1] it truly shows the kind of "global society" we live in when comments mocking a person's rhotacism (difficulty in pronouncing Rs due to tongue/palate issues) are more abound than those relevant to the topic! oh well, at least Kim gets my kudos for braving it and taking it well... Shining Force II, one of my favourite games of all time! Sadly the ending is horribly and wrongly done in my opinion but it definitely doesn't put me off this classic though :)
OMG I totally forgot about that game World Cup Itali 1990 I had got that when I was a kid in the early 90s. It was a 3 pack game Super Hang-on, Colums, and World Cup.
I enjoy the fact that shining force was the opening music 😊
Thank you. Love it but ouldn’t place it!
Man, there's no way a sane person not crack up on laughs upon hearing that 'welcoming' shout from WC Italia 90':

This channel has been my discovery of the lockdown. It's absolutely brilliant.
Yeah I've been watching since 2013 and it's still a solid channel after all these years.
You really set the scene perfectly for Rise of the Robots. Almost Life of Brian-esque in your building up of a powerful scene, before destroying the entire thing in hilarious farce. Or farcical hilarity.
"It's a pile of fucking shit" 😂😂😂😂
Time Killers was a lot more acceptable in the arcades.
Otherwise it was a time killer
"The wanks of the damned" - Thanks, Kimble, for making me spew coffee over my monitor. :)
Its amazing Sword of Sodan even got released
The funny part was I read how Time Killers was originally cancelled, but there was a "fan outcry" about making it come out anyway that it actually was released. My question though is who would have wanted it in the first place?????

And with that my friend, I am legit subscribing.
Jeez Kim.
For a moment there, I thought you would put the incredible 'Shining Force 2' in, when I heard the music.
I was about to get my pitchfork and torch out!
The Wolverine game is so bad that I literally smashed the plastic case it came in.
No you didn't, don't be silly.

I've done a favourites video already, and I had to do this because as mentioned in the video, RUclips has wrecked the audio on the old one.
Appreciate the effort this was very fun

I purposefully turned the lisp right up to 11 for that one. :)
Kim Justice love your voice accent and lisp. brings so much character to your videos.
Kim Justice hello Kim . Does ultra man use the same sound affects as streets of rage or are they just really similar? Cheers love from a mere fan man lol

The sad thing is that a german video game mag gave Awesome Possum a "Good" with 67%.What was the guy who wrote that article smoking?!
+CarozQH Probably the bribe money he got from the developers of the game.
Probably played too many eurojank platformers
Don't know how I've missed this video until now. You had me in tears, laughing, all the way through. :) Thanks and keep up the good work!
A Space Quest AND a Police Quest reference? Very cool :D
Lmao at Heavy Nova, cuz that's exactly what my reaction to it was... I saw that intro and was like "this HAS to be good" and then, yeah... the game.
love that animal court bit. How would you expect a kid to know something like that anyway
a terrifying thought just occurred to me: Bubsy's getting a reboot (by Black Forest Studios- who made that fantastic "Gianna Sisters: Twisted Dreams"- no less!)... what if some studio becomes emboldened or desperate, or worse yet; STUPID enough to try their hand at an "Awesome Possum" reboot? '...it's a trite and meaningless existence...' made me laugh my drink up.
Throwing woks at the enemy really is evil! I mean, a game like this, really needs a wokthrow - how else will you get to the end!
Damn that catchy music at the start, Shining Force or Phantasy Star if I remember correctly, now it'll be stuck in my head for ages. The bit with Awesome Possum's relentless one liners is funny.
I love your writing, a very Hitchhikers Guide vibe in this episode :]
I got Techno Cop as a mystery cart. Needless to say I wish I had left it a mystery.
This video is old af, but it wasn't Infograms fault for Fantasia on the MD. It's was Disney. Infograms wanted more time to get the game right and Disney gave them a very tight deadline to try and get the game out with the Fantasia VHS release.
21 minutes in is just the WWF WrestleMania game but without the official wrestling licence.
I love the intro theme - it's so 80's and Genesis-y (as in Phil Collins). I'd rather have the Mega Drive's version than the one on Mega CD w/ vocals and such.
Heavy Nova does have an OST worth checking out, if you're into the space funk.
Absolutely hilarious - I need to go to sleep, but I can't stop watching.
17:12 Is that Tommy Cooper? 😂 You've made my day, lmao.
Having only found this channel recently I've been enjoying these videos Mr Justice. So many memories from childhood
There are still home-brew games coming out for the system but they cost $$$ to get as cartridges. South America still had releases for quite a while.
Loving the use of 'Expander' from Streets of Rage 2 in between entries ;-)
actually, the PC version of Time Killers had some pretty impressive tech for the game, like parallax scrolling backgrounds and the like
I thought Time Killers was only an arcade game. When did it get a PC port?
Just found your channel awesome video just subscribed!
Craig Stadler saying "You're godamn right" is the highlight 23:12
A Space Quest reference! My childhood salutes you Kim 😄
The death animation in Techno Cop reminds me a bit of Death Wish III, on the ZX Spectrum.
Sorry Awesome Possum but you're not awesome, not when we already had an awesome opossum name Sparkster.
Tbh i still am disapointed Sparkster looks nothing like an Opossum. He looks closer to an Armadillo without the shell.
I actually built a small circuit board to slow down my Commodore 64 to PAL speed but output NTSC video you have no idea, EU games ran WAY too fast on an a USA C64 and USA games as you know ran so slow on a PAL one, and I LOVE the C64 it still is my favorite 8 bit system! shortening your sign off - unacceptable kimble!
(great vid as always)
AHHHHH!!!! I never could remember the name of the Mickey game I used to play when I was 5. Never got past the first level either. It still manifests in my nightmares from time to time
Is the original version of Kim's worst Sega list available online anywhere? I never got to see them, and I'm curious what his list looked like before.
Rise of the Robots is a fantastic lesson in game design.
It's everything that Streetfighter isn't.
Edit: And a light year from anything Yu Suzuki ever did.
Been bingeing Kim's videos for the last couple of weeks. Brilliant discovery. Keep it up, you are fantastic.
Poor old Tommy Cooper, he dies on stage and then ends up censoring badly drawn pornography!
Dark Castle should definitely be number one, or at least be in the top 3.
kenterminatedbygoogle Flicky was the worse it was terrible. And Italia 90 lol
No DJ Boy? Now THAT's a terrible game.
Played Sword of Sodan recently on the Amiga, and though it was never a good game it was still miles better than the Megadrive port. What really impressed me was the use of ambient sound which creates quite a cool atmosphere, and the game has a replay feature so you can watch your game play. Technically very impressive.
Damn, I thought Double Dragon 3 and Super Thunder Blade would have made the list.
"Kripke? Where is that accent from, exactly?"
I'm just giving you shit, mate! Great videos! Subscribed.
Resvrgam ayeee big bang theory, I just got the first six seasons for my birtyday
@@cartersplanet2734 or you could watch the never ending re-runs on TV for free?
That show just won't die.

Isn't dark castle even worse on the CD-i?
Was thinking the same thing...
It sure is
Its crazy watching this years later when you made a new list and found so many bad games half the list changed by now
If posted this before but i still think you could do videos focusing on forgotten game developer companies, it has some potential for a unique series.
10:32 You Fool. You Think You Can Defeat The Master? You Can Never Win... HAHAHAHA
I used to love Ka Ge Ki when I was a kid, I found the sound clips absolutely hilarious.
I've never played Wolverine Adamantium Rage but I want to. To see for myself how bad it is. The graphics look all right but it's gameplay is what's really terrible. However it does have several Game Genie codes to make it easier to get through. So I'll do that sometime!
why was their no video for some of 19?
ccateni 28 Because the game is too godawful to look at.
If you defeated the game, were you crowned “Wisest of the Wobots”?
I’m asking for a fwiend.

Good shout on Italia 90, seconded only to Soccer Mania (GB) as the poorest soccer game. There's a reason Sega included it "free" on Mega Games.
***** It is very fast. Controls are bad.
Italia 90 has some of the best sound effects! What else can you score 400 a side on?
You seem to have missed out Last Battle in this list.
Red B The real, uncensored, version of that game is balls to the wall awesome though.
Wasn't that game originally a Fist of the North Star game?
The Japan version people dont fly off the screen they explode. i got this for christmas after asking santa for strider. I have a soft spot for it now, but only through nostalgia. Its nearly impossible to complete too.
I really enjoyed it as a kid...
Anyone else notice some blank/black screen sections in the video or is it just me? Take a look at the Rastan part for example.
"Irritated ornary" is a risky phrase for this dude.
Barry Kripke, allright. Didn't know some nerds had that speech impediment, but guess that shitty show, The Big Bang Theory nailed it with that one.
Haha strange that 4 of the games on your list I have really fond memories of. Sometime games like movies can be so bad they're good.
Oh my god you open with WORLD CUP SOCCER ? That game was pretty fun to play back at the time, and I could name like 3 or 4 worse soccer games for the Mega-Drive.

Garry Cowan GOOOAAL!

Italia 90!! XD
"GAAAAARRRRRRGH"
supahdupahguy81 fuck man that game fucking sucked it makes me so angry. That and Flicky where the two worse mega drive games ever made.
Stormlord and Deliverance Stormlord II (Hewson) were great on C64

Nightmare Circus has actually got a few ideas that were ahead of its time. Too bad its confusing and the gameplay is complete shit.
Now that the bad's out of the way, we can go back to playing good Mega Drive games! :)
And I've just uploaded 16 definitive games for MD imho! They are on the top of my videos' list.
I've just bought a Mega Drive so this is a good warning for my future game purchases online for my retro collecting.
0:16 it worked with James Rolfe. lol
What's that intro music? I quite like it.
Likewise, I recognize it very distinctly but can't place it... Someone please help, cuz now it's going to drive me crazy!
