Hard to describe how much I enjoyed following Kirsten and the GGR. This was a wonderful culmination for me. You did a wonderful job putting this together! Well done!! Very very well done!!!
What a magnificent interview Maya. I began following Kirsten a month prior to the start of GGR2022. She truly impresses me with her humble and generous spirit. Her perseverance and dedication to sailing and the environment are extraordinary. She cares for her Cape George Minnehaha as if she were family. And her caring concern for others, in particular Tapio’s rescue. To forego and risk her standing in the race for the safety of another was incredible. Her heartfelt concerns for Guy and other colleagues was so heartfelt, and then she was able to comeback and persevere onwards. She is a woman, a person no other can compare to. I was so thrilled for her to place first overall from such a community of excellent, experienced sailors. She brings hope to other sailors, young women in particular. To see how Minnehaha handled the conditions was such a compliment to how Kirsten had restored her. To know that Minnehaha began here locally on the peninsula of the Puget Sound was an even sweeter win. Thanks for sharing your interview Maya. As usual, superb questions, background music and editing. ⚓️ Through your storytelling and like Kirsten, you have inspired and reminded all of us that dreams are important and always possible. ❤
@@Tyme_flies The Cape George boats are constructed in Port Townsend. The Minnehaha was retrofitted just prior while on P.E.I., eastern coast of Prince Edward Island.
Kirsten the bravest most adventuress woman that has ever taken on a great endurance endeavour. As a fellow South African she is an incredible woman and has made us the proudest nation in the world (for those who understand and care). Thank you Magic Carpet for the wonderful videos you make available to us to share the world of sailing expertise.
I've said before Maya, I think your editing skills are second to none and this video proves it! That was the best 1 1/2 hours I've spent in a while. Kirsten is super nice person and I hope you and Aladino meet up with her on Magic Carpet II some day.
Oh, Maya! how wonderfully edited, the clips so elegantly paced, and with such touchingly ,meaningful content. Such a joy to watch, and rewatch! Thank you, thank you for this rich and loving tribute to Kirsten. She richly deserves your fine contribution to her accomplishment.
“We might launch this year” wow, music to my ears, obviously you guys have made a good choice with your Cape George sailboat. Good video you never fail to impress, good job.
Thanks for this update. After your interview with Kirsten way back before the start , I decided to follow her progress on the GGR . Brilliant coverage Maya and Kirsten .
This is by far the best interview of Kristen (and I listen and watch a lot). Thank you Maya for your presence, your empathy, artistry and intuition. This is PRO!❤
Thanks for an awesome video. I recently read about 4 books about the 1968 race, and wouldn’t have known about this record setting event without your work. Wonderful, thank you very much.
That was absolutely the best episode to date. What an inspiration. She is so accomplished and her accent is lyrical. Thank you so much for sharing Kirsten with your viewers. It must give you great confidence in the Cape St George as a world class ocean cruiser.
Two of the top sailing centered ladies in the world chatting like the friends they are and we get this Top Notch interview that hits all the high spots of Kirsten's world class major achievement! Wow! That WAS great! Thank you, Maya. So well done.
@1:21:43 "...as one of sailing's greatest icons..." 👴👌👌👌👏👏👏 Great respect for this lady. It surely is one of the greatest, if not THE biggest, challenges of sailboat racing.👵😲😊🍾 Maya, thank you for letting us view this!👵🤗
I didn't realize that in the middle of refitting a boat, and putting out weekly videos, you also made a movie! This is an incredible accomplishment--as others have said, it's extremely well-edited. The pacing is great. I started watching and couldn't stop. Great subject, Kirsten is fantastic, but the making of this deserves applause as well. Congratulations.
What a adventure! What a life ! This happens to me from time to time on the internet, but my heart just swells so big with happiness, admiration, joy and pride for a person/people ive never met. Im just so excited for the woman she is. She is obvious a very humble person, but i would love to support her anyway i can. Rather it be merch ,a book or maybe just this comment. Rock on Kirsten ! Rock on !❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊 those people showed up for you because you are a amazing woman ! Oh yeah im proud of your boat too. My apologies for missing the name ! Way to go boat 😂😂😂❤❤!
Wow that was amazing, maya thank you and from a long time follower this was a top 3 , and with no Alidino no violin no boat footage. It was a documentary that equals any. Stay cool stay safe stay loving
Proudly South African. With her smile and positive attitude, she's such a fantastic ambassador for sailors everywhere and a life on the ocean waves. Great episode, thank you.
I had forgotten that you both have the Cape George. I restored my current boat from wrecked with new gelcoat on the entire boat and this year my engine replaced. I have watched Magic Carpet every week and watched Kirstin throughout the entire race. This is such a special summary and story. Loved the episode!
Thrilling interview and I followed Kirsten every single day of the race thanks to your first interview. This interview being a lovely emotional part 2. Great job Maya! Great job Kirsten.💖💖💖🇦🇺
Thank you for this excellent video, I really enjoyed watching how you put it together. Kirsten comes from a city not far from where I live and would love to meet her one day, maybe at the PE Yacht Club or the Gordons Bay Yacht club, she is so inspiring and so are you and Aladino. Thanks again.
What a wonderful lady , saving a fellow sailor and still winning the race , I found this very emotional and so inspirational to watch , congratulations Kirsten and we’ll done , thanks for this Maya, ❤ Graham L
Maya, just wow! I avidly followed the Golden Globe race. I have followed the post race coverage. Your video of Kirsten Neuschäfer's race and her story are wonderful. Her's is a great story and she is an amazing individual and you brought that out beautifully. Definitely the best, most complete coverage I've seen. As usual, outstanding editing. You are an amazing film maker and it was a great interview.
Amazing interview! Thank you so much for sharing this incredible story with us. That was an awesome race. I don't think it's possible to top that adventure. ☀️ ⛵ 🤗
Maya, that was incredible. When I first saw your post, I thought there is no way I can sit through 1.5 hrs.. Wow, was I wrong!! An incredible person, an incredible story, but also incredibly told. Thank you!
What a wonderful video and interview about the magnificent race of Kirsten Neuschäfer. It was so entertaining and time passed away. Thanks for letting us part of the journey - great job.
She loves sailing. It's so cool to see. A true sailor. I envy her. It must be something to be that good at something and be so happy doing it. Not many people get to experience such perfection. I followed her during the race. Followed the experience with her fellow sailor and him losing his boat, her rescue of him and finally hearing she had come in first. Amazing woman.
I am amazed at how emotional this story made me. What an incredible journey Kirsten has accomplished. Thank you for sharing this with us Maya and Kirsten.
Exceptional, wonderful how you weaved together interview footage with race footage! I’ve been missing following Kirsten’s golden globe race so this has really helped fill that gap.
I met Kirsten 2 times when she was preparing for the GGR. Actually I knew the previous owner of her boat Minnehaha, that was Dr Mike Bottomly, now deceased. I helped her take physical possession of her boat in Fortune , Newfoundland; and that was quite a struggle for her because of Covid 19 travel restrictions in place back then The 2nd time I met Kirsten was in Prince Edward Island where she had just completed a huge refit of that boat. Both my wife and I were very impressed with Kirsten; she was humble, down to earth, intelligent and incredibly committed to overcome any obstacles to get to the start line of the GGR. Believe me, her battle to get to the start line was just as impressive as her performance in the actual race. The community in PEI adopted Kirsten and helped her in many many ways, really because they were inspired by her drive and determination. What a champion. Can’t wait to see what she accomplishes next!
Maya, thank you so much for doing this interview and putting this all together. The end result is beautiful and testament to your abilities. I followed the race and for a number of personal reasons I really identified with Kirsten. She expresses herself with such grace and eloquence and you really let that shine through in your interview and presentation. Thank you Kirsten for racing the way you did, doing this interview and the previous one with Maya and sharing the footage. I have tears in my eyes and a smile on my face.
It's very special and appropriate you did these interviews Maya. What an amazing event for all of us. I watched the race daily while watching your refit. I even mentioned Kirsten and her Cape George after one of your episodes.
I have followed Kirsten and the GGR as well as all of your weekly videos. This longer documentary stands out as a brilliantly authentic and genuine account of Kristen’s journey and motivations. I expect that someone looking in from the outside will similarly encapsulate your exploits on Magic Carpet II after your grand voyage to come!
I miss getting on the GGR live tracker and watching the race unfold. Thanks for thisbgreat recap. Kirsten is a remarkable person. She has inspired me for sure.
Been looking for and awaiting a quality summary of her incredible journey and accomplishments. I knew from your first reports, before GGR2022 began, Team Kirsten and Minnehaha were something special. Still today, i occasionally poke around for news of them. Thank you Sailing Magic Carpet, for the introduction and follow thru. Some memories stay with you for a lifetime, This is one, for me.
We started watching the race after you had mentioned it. We followed it real close and loved that Kirsten won it. This interview was so awesome, can't thank you enough. Your boat value probably jumped after Kirsten won! (ha ha)
I first learned about Kirsten and the GGR from your channel. We followed her progress whenever we had Internet as we sailed down from Vancouver Island along the West Coast, out to Hawaii and then on to New Zealand, where we were celebrating Christmas when Kirsten passed the Hobart gate! When she won, we were over the moon. Thanks so much for this inspiring interview.

Maya and Kirsten - thank you both so much for this extraordinary documentary video. It is without question my favorite sailing video. What an accomplishment, Kirsten! And what a wonderful interview Maya. Fair winds to Kirsten and to Mia and Aladino as well as you prepare Magic Carpet II to cast her own wake upon the oceans. And a tip of the hat to Cecil Lange, the father of the Cape George cutters.
Thank you for doing this. I followed the race from start to finsh and was rooting for Kirsten the whole way and love hearing her story of the race. Also it must give you and Aladino great confidence that you have chosen a good boat for your upcoming adventures.
Absolutely amazing journey and I watched every video and read every report everyday. Well done Kirsten and thanks Maya for doing this. It really helped close it off for me.
Thanks Maya. Epic. We followed her daily from the start but your film not only brought back the memories and joy but added to them. Kirsten is heroic and her strength and abilities exceed the boundaries of sailing and we celebrate not only her accomplishments but as with Moitessier, her soul.
Maya. Thank you so much for using your incredible story telling talent to share Kirsten's story. I learned of her through your channel and followed the race every day so it was a little nostalgic to relive her journey and a treat to hear her reflections.
I'm only 4.5 minutes into it and have to set it aside for now but my wife and I will watch it tonight. So excited to see the Nexus of her sailing and your video editing and narration. There's a Cape George 36 a little down our dock in exquisite condition. Beautiful boat. Wish you well in your outfitting and RUclips channel!
