Not just 10 year bonds beat this, 2 year US Treasury bonds now beat the yield of this ETF (2.839% as I’m typing this), so yes, higher than what the S&P500 pays, but not a yield that can’t be found elsewhere nowadays. Still looks pretty good to me if you think the companies within it will continue to increase dividends and rebound from this downturn.

I agree that this is a good high quality group of stocks. I may have a little more appetite for risk than Sven, however, for I do like JPM, CVX, PFE, BAC, and ABBV as good buys right now. I also bought XOM still last January, and have enjoyed a good decent 40% approx. ride (and they anticipated yet another record quarter to come; I think oil won’t give up until the Ukraine situation is somewhat normalized). All the others, I agree that are somewhat expensive now, but they are still Holds for me if they were acquired before at better prices (they are definitely good quality).

My reason for tuning into Dr. Carlin's channel - " It is a gamble and i really don't like gambles" 15:38. Bravo Sven !
Serious question : If one is not relying on dividends to make ends meet, is buying a stock for dividends an apologetic way for telegraphing that the overall market is really expensive? The reason I ask is due to the double taxation on dividends. My 2 cents - I feel every investor should deduct their own tax outgo to calculate the dividend yield from a stock. I feel that I would really buy a stock for dividends only if there is a good chance of capital appreciation....

Hi Sven, here is my suggestion for two stocks to look with more scrutiny:
SWK (stanley black and decker) = Input cost risk but maybe great part of this risk already discounted in the stock price. I own some money in SWK which offer a 10% total return (growth + dividend) + oppourtunity of multiple expansion down the road
ICE = intercontinental exchange = in this case stock price beaten down because of strategic aquisition through issiuing debt + shareholders dilution (if I have gotten it right) = even in this case we are at circa 10% total return (business growth + dividend maybe some % lower from 10%), but opportunity of furtther earning growth due to the strategic aquisition they recently made. Risk of debt burden but great moat. I own some money in the stock.
Let us know your opinion. ciao

I am with the QE graph in mind that you published in the last video.
Its really mindblowing and of great value!!
We are in a race against the permanent devaluation of the dollar.
But if fed stop printing, many bussiness around the world will fall without revenue.
So the printing will continue, faster or slower.
So, we dont must buy assests that doesnt deliver grouth, such as stable companies with no grouth, for instance.
Perhaps bonds now are a good option because they are going to rebound in the next QE...
Well too much to choose... hahaha
Very insightfull videos!!! Fortunate to had found them!

With semiconductors being hyped future stocks, they are the picks and shovels of the semiconductor manufacturing. Their fundamentals seem quite good, with FCF and revenue growth, low P/E and P/FCF, share buybacks and dividends, and low debt/equity. It's seems like a buy in a growth industry.

What is the difference between value and currency debasement. Debasement meaning the price simply went up because the Fed issued more debt notes as claims on the future that are yet to be paid? How much price from 2000 to 2022 is reflecting the US public debt going from $5 Trillion to $30 Trillion, up 6x simply driving up stocks 6x? Currency debasement confuses me regarding price, driven by debt bubble, not value, interest rates driven down, not value. What is value?

If it drops to 2020 levels ($90) I'll buy to ride it back up, but not to hold forever. Watching and adding to my positions in WBA, AQN, MO, LEG & PRU. All have current divs of 5%, which is my minimum div yield goal (income required soon). I won't invest in anything that has Exxon in it, at least as much as I'm aware of it. KMI & OKE are my only positions in that sector.

Good day, Dr Carlin ! I discovered your RUclips channel a few weeks ago, subscribed, and have now watched dozens already, including all the new, daily ones that you post here. Excellent content ! Thank you so much for the extremely valuable education you're providing all of us ! I'm a retired CPA from the United States. I'll be 64 years old in a few months. Besides understanding Accounting (A = L + OE), I have a good finance background, where I understand futures values discounted back to present values, etc. So I really appreciate the information you share and how you make the complex, seem "easy". Your presentations are outstanding. I will eventually (soon) become a customer of your research platform services.
Here's my situation and questions: I want to watch the video you posted to RUclips, the day following this (VYM) video. In the US, it was available on 7/4/22, and I watched a few minutes of it, but did not have time to watch all of it. It contained a long , Jack Bogle interview, regarding investing in ETF's. I think RUclips may have deleted that (7/4/22) video, b/c I cannot find it now. Where can I see that 7/4/22 RUclips video ? If it's no longer available, is there a prior one you could recommend, that might cover some of the same topics? I'm heavily invested in VYM, so was very interested in this (7/3/22 VYM) video; I'm also very interested in seeing the 7/4/22 video, if it's still available somewhere. Thank you so much !!!

Stable business. The underlying commodity does factor in but the fact is that they charge a toll and usually on long term contracts so they are insulated to a degree from the ups and downs of the commodity. It is getting nearly impossible to lay new pipe in Canada and the US so this moats their business much like railroads. Usually pay a dividend as well.

Some of those stocks I have just basically as a never sell pseudo guaranteed CD ladder replacement when rates cratered for the yield, knowing I kind of was overpaying in JPM, PG, JNJ. My biggest problem with ETFs based on market cap weighting is the difficulty in knowing what the payouts will be and the effect that their rebalancing has on them. Granted VYM is much better about that than my Reit based ones with VNQI just being a disaster that I had to just exit.

Bought ABBV 09/23/21, and 01/18/22. It seems overvalued so sold 06/27/22. Held a little because I would have like that 04/04/22 price. Should have sold all if I were following my own rules.

Hi Sven, what I find strange that when you talk about dividends you never talk payout ratio. You mentioned that for retail you are looking for dividends of 5% but at what payout ratio? Is it 10%, 50% or 100%? When I look at a dividend stock part of my valuation is to look at yield vs payout ratio. What I usually want to see is to yield x 10 being higher than payout ratio. When I look at ABBV stock right now with with ~3.6% dividend and payout ratio at ~75% it seems as overvalued but when you look at CE for example with ~2,4% dividend and only ~15% payout ratio it's a different story. What that means is that if ABBV pays all of their cash flows to shareholder we would get 4.8% but if CE did the same we would be getting 16%. Of course valuation is never that simple but worth taking this into consideration when talking about dividend stocks.

Do I understand you correctly that you mean that it is just better to look at the net income per share or FCF/share? Or do you mean that high payout ratios make everything potentially more risky considering that they will have to maintain the dividend in bad times too? I agree with both. But I am not 100% sure that you mean this exactly with your comment.

Sven, if your investment strategy were applied to passive ETFs, it would look something like QVAL and IVAL. Of course, passive ETFs will never get the same returns as your research platform, but please help your followers who can't subscribe to your platform from being slaughtered by the lousy returns of the S&P 500 for years to come. Look at the fundamentals: QVAL: P/E of ~6 (six, six!!!!!), Price/Cash Flow of 1.81, Historical Earnings of 72%, Cash-Flow Growth of 29%. IVAL: P/E of ~6 (six, six!!!!!), Price/Cash Flow of 2.35, Historical Earnings of 36%, Cash-Flow Growth of 25%. Could you please review them in the next ETF video? Thank you very much!
